I don't know if anyone else found this but after the 3D rotate is applied and the radius set. My null object is going clockwise while Andrews is going counter clockwise...an I missing a step somewhere?? Very frustrating as I re started this tutorial like 3 times now. Anyone please!

I don't recall making/duplicating that layer in the tutorial, which is easy to figure out anyway, but just wanted to know which mask you duplicated, if you did, or did you create a new mask?

I have a question, i was following the tutorial, and when you go shrink down the duplicated thin spec layer, you end up with a 3rd mask in that layer, when you move the specular ring in to create the highlight on the top of the ring.

I gotta say, you're quite biased against After-Effect's built in particle system, but it can produce almost the same effect (of course not as good) but close.

using the liquify filter, I was able to produce a similar effect for the wavy lines.

But I have a problem... When I try to change the mask expansion on the circles it does not expand correctly. The mask expands more at the bottom and tod so the perfect circle turns more into an elipse... Can anyone explan to me why this is?

Is it possible to upscale this composition to 1280x720 after you've finished it in any other way besides increasing the scale and lining everything up again? It seems that everything but the flare and particle system stay rotating around the larger circle.

apologies. the problem has been fixed, i skipped the part with the cheap particleshitstem.. and thats where you resolve the problem by negatively producing speed slide.
for those who wonder about it, the way to make the null rotate counterclockwise so that it will follow the radial wipe is to make the nullobject's
slider control "speed" to negative 300 so -300. this will make the null object move at -300, > counterclockwise.

love the tutorials, been following you since day 1.
one problem i found while duplicating your tutorial is the part where u edit the Null object which controls the particles rotation. all is well and you continue on to check if the circle is centered etc, ( this is at 15:46 in your vid) but the null object is rotating in a clockwise direction, but when you continue your null object is rotating counterclockwise, so its in sync with your radial wipe animation, my question is: How do you animate the null so that it rotates correctly, because with the slider control the particles are still born clockwise, and thereby moving backwards. cant seem to find the answer anywhere, do you or anyone else know the answer to my Q plz email me back at dagrava@hotmail.com

hey, great tut as always! but how do you make the particle ring orbit the y axis AROUND another 3D layer? Since particles are all on one layer, they can either be on top or bottom of another 3D layer, but what about both? I can get it to go around in a perspective camera view but the particles still render on top. Any ideas? thanks!

But I have 1 problem, I can't seem to get the lens flare to be "3D". When it follows the path it stays 2D and moves very stiff. Anyone know how i can get the lens flare to twist while moving?

if I you can I would love if you would be able to make a tutorial on how to cut the video and resume with a different video. meaning the same scene with no camera angle change but different takes joined into one. (so you wont see the cut) Is there a way to track the motion while doing it? is that the answer?

Great tutorial, Andy! I'm having problems to follow it, but that's only because my AE crushed four times this morning. Just one thing... I don't have Particular, so I'm doing experiments with Particle World; and it's definitely not as easy as with Trapcode's, but I'm managing to recreate almost the same results as you did! The thing is, I had to use a displacement map with an animated fractal noise; but still, it works!

Just wanted to tell you. Great site, I love your tutorials!

Basic AE question that deals with this tutorial.

Obviously this ring is a replica off of the new TNT graphics, but how do you make it so there is no background? its transparent so you can put the animation ontop of live footage like you would see on the bottom right of a TNT show?

Andrew how did you get so small size of your _-VC Ring-_ video?(it's only 1 mb.) In your "Render Queue" window the Outpup Module settings is Based on "Lossless". The size of my one with the same settings is naerly 66 mb.
What should I do? I don't understand.
With "Quick Time" settings the size 14 mb.
Sorry for stupid question if you will but I don't know what to do.

Kickin Tutorial!

A few things you can add to it if you like is make the background 3d, add a point light and add and expression that links the x and y of the light to the x and y of the flare. Then pull the light out about 200px and make the valueAtTime(time-.4) so it keeps up with the flare... animate the light intensitiy by pick whipping the lens flare brightness so it matches.. really makes it pop. like the old skool disney logo :P just thought i'd throw that in.

Okay once again you blow my mind, Mr. Kramer. I had been looking for a tutorial like this for EVER. And I didnt even know what software could make these kind of logos. I wanted one for my website, after my videos. A logo like this. I did what you said in the tutorial except with a twist so it fit my logo better which is an oval. I had a lil trouble with the animation of the null since it goes in a perfect circle but I managed to animate it myself :D Thanks alot!! You pimped up my website even further. You will see the logo in my next upcoming sampler! Thanks again, you be the best!

The best tutorial yet Andrew.
I have been a huge admirer of Troika for five or more years now. Initially, watching their work made me want to quit. But then I realized they have a large team of artists working on their stuff, not just one or two designers. Working mainly in sports graphics, Troika inspired me to learn C4D and all the tricks in AE to enhance the 3D renders. Which leads me to wonder why you choose not to include Knoll Light Factory in your tutorials when you freely include Trapcode Particular?
The aspect of Troika's work I've never quite mastered is their use of reflection - the clean lines of the specularity. I've spent hours working on creating reflection objects - from planes to toruses - but I've failed to come up with as pleasing results as those Troika guys.

Wow, very cool.... I have been wanting to do this type of thing since seeing the TNT thingy. I think ABC also does this sort of thing with their new logo intro. Either way, it's a super-cool effect and I can't wait to play around with it and incorporate it into my videos. You are definitely Da Man once again Andrew.
