• Create ground destruction in 3D Max using particle flow
• Render motion blur and shadows for AE compositing
TUTORIAL NOTES:

by Gurnis 06/13/2009
Hint :)
if you want shorter render times in 3ds max instead of using "motion blur" use [blur --> radial blur --> zoom] in after effects ;)

I am having the same problem that sig was having in my attempt to duplicate Andrew's work precisely. I can only see the "particle" if I create at least "3". When I limit particle birth to "1", I cannot see it in the perspective view with the image.

Does anyone have the answer to why this is happening?
by Mariano 10/21/2008
Thaks so much i from Argentina and i only 13Years old and i'm a like so much after effects ....if you are reading this please you can upload a video about transformation Like transformer or a video about 3ds max for make a scene of a meteor crashging on earth and leaving a crater...thanks

Thanks Andrew,
I was about to quit my job when I found your tutorials.
To learn this stuff is generally just to expensive and working with dumb clients is really frustrating. .
Thank you for being my guide and make me recover my passion for this work.
by TheGerg 10/05/2008
Great tut dude. Your 3d max tutoring is greatly appreciated. Only problem i have is that my copy of 3d max doesn't have "bevel" in the modifier list. Does this mean its a separate plug in or do i just have a crap copy ?
by Karti 10/04/2008

hey andrew, first of all excellent tutorials, I'm new here and I have a very big question that maybe you can help me, I want to edit in After Effects, but my computer is very slow, I have a Core 2 Duo processor and 2 gigabytes of memory RAM. I am recording in a Sony HDR-SR12 which is full HD AVCHD format, to pass it on to the computer is in m2ts format, convert it to mpeg2 but it is impossible to move forward, impossible edit. . What do I need?

A greeting and thank you very much.

Great tutorials Andrew :D

@ Ricardo Elizondo (namesharer :D)

Lat time I checked 3D's Max, Maya and Blender are available for the Mac.
by Angryman 09/29/2008
Absolutely fabulous! Stunned, yet again.
by Ricardo Elizondo 09/27/2008
This tutorial was really good, there is no one like you on teh internets.
But why would you use a platform specific program like 3Ds max?
I myself use OSX, and having no knowledge of 3D animation, cannot follow your tutorial in Maya.
Just a suggestion.
by Joey 09/27/2008
Hey anyone know how to do this on Blender? Unfortunately those of us with Macs cant use 3DS Max

Hey, Wazzup Andrew Kremer! Voice Sounds Good Huh!? Anyway thanks dude for sharing this great great tuts... I really really love it...
by tarek 09/23/2008
andrew that was really cool ...u have to make some 3ds max animation tutorials
by xmayax 09/23/2008
The animation is ok, but as a "production", looks really fake. Lack of reactive lightings, motions of the scene's objects are missing, it looked like just a still photo being enhanced thru animations, the life is missing.
by Charles X 09/23/2008
That good tutorial, besides that it include a tutorial with examples of 3d max I needed to learn, THANK YOU MASTER.
3D-Max and After Effects Rules!!!
by werka 09/23/2008

Andrew, you're a saint. You're really building up a lot of people's skills and you're really going out of your way to help a lot of people. The fact that you've made all of these tutorials, and continue to do so, completely defies all logic. I think that you're doing a really really really good thing, here. Keep it up as long as you feel inclined! Your contribution is enormous.
by micahel 09/23/2008
so #%&!ing good love it !!
by Pee 09/23/2008
YOU ARE GOOOOOOD....

by Jackienp 09/23/2008
I don't know why use PNG 48bit for render.
I only know PNG can contain alpha channel, but
Why 48 bit?
Thank you for all answers.
by muna khan 09/23/2008

I love you holy shit, im going to like buy your next product immiediatly just cause you said the joke about punching the dealer in the face. wow i lvoe you
by Indiefilmmaker 09/22/2008
Great Tutorial, Andrew!
One of the things I liked a lot, besides the cool effects is, the whole tutorial is very time efficient in spite of the enormous material covered.
Would it be possible for you to make the same tutorial in BLENDER?
Myself and many Independent Filmmakers/Visual FX-Artists are on Mac and 3DsMAX is used only on PC.
Also would you have knowledge on how BLENDER compares to other top notch 3D programs such as Maya, Lightwave, 3DSMAX, and Cinema4D? Please let us know.
Thank you.
by Marco Cardenas 09/22/2008
HAHA I STARTED LAUGHING SO HARD

"I would go to the casino and go to a blackjack table and when the dealer is dealing the cards. I would punch him in the face!"

AMAZING 3D TUTO
by Kenneth Sebastian 09/22/2008

That is one hell of an awesome tut !!!

BUT : i think you should do a tut how to do that asphalt chunks in BLENDER because theres a lot of people like me who cannot afford buying 3dmax ...

think about it... id be grateful to see a blender tut !
by sig 09/21/2008
if anyone can help me for a second , im trying to make like an intro letters coming out from by scale to 100 , but when y try to track the text into expanding , instead of going from the middle to the sides , it goes from the left to the right , so the first dont letter moves instead of the one in the middle of the phrase which make the words spread to the sides
by Boelk 09/21/2008

Dear Andrew,

I am having a small problem with the tutorial. I have followed up until the point where you need to create the particle generator. My problem is I can see the little ticks in all of the view ports accept for the one where I have my background. I have tried changing the color and switched it to circles, but I cannot see them.

Do you know what could be wrong?

Thanks
Rick

Andrew, seriously I am absolutely AMAZED at what your mind can think of...At Video CoPilot or anywhere else in your immediate vicinity, imagination doesn't seem to be a problem. Was very impressed at your work in Fringe (which I'm now addicted to), so keep it up man!

And by the way, in case you're wondering, the settlement from the lawsuit against Black Cats didn't turn out to be too big of a payoff...
