Adobe Media Encoder will now exit."..and then it says: "After Effects error: Writer Initialization Error!".. I dunno what's wrong. pls. help! by W3r3W0lF 08/11/2009 Do you need AE cs4? or you can do it just with cs3? by Kyle 08/06/2009 I was just thinking that instead of highlights for the buttons since it can look messy (I understand it's for tutorial purposes) you could get the text tool and use the same font as the button and kind of do a highlight with that with bigger font slightly. Although if you did it this way it wouldn't be a drag and drop sort of thing, you would have to create a button for each selection you have. Other than that, this tutorial was the most helpful tutorial I have ever watched in my entire life. I've always wanted to do this kind of stuff. by mcv 08/05/2009 Thanks a ton Andrew, you do amazing work and you're a good teacher. by Lnkprk04 08/03/2009 Great job! Ur way of presentation is great by MAICO WOOKON 07/05/2009 SO GOOD THX by Barry 07/03/2009 Hey Andrew. Great tutorial. One question though... What exactly is the point of starting out with NTSC D1 Widescreen Square Pixel, if you're only going to convert it into NTSC DV Widescreen? Why not just start out in NTSC DV Widescreen and save any troubles you could run into? I'm asking this because I personally don't know much about conversions of aspect ratios. So maybe an explanation as to why you do it that one would help me out. Thanks. by rudyZero 07/03/2009 I just found your tutorials and let me say the're awesome¡¡¡ all the basics for after effects.. all in one :D thanks so much for this... and of course in some time i will go for the advanced :D ... in some time of course thanks from Peru ;) by John Fitch 07/03/2009 Hi, Great tutorial. Just wondering, is there any need to export as MPEG2 from Premiere CS4, when you Dynamic Link it directly into Encore? I assume the conversion would be the same? So you can let Encore do it without sacrificing anything? Cheers, keep up the great work! John by Benson 07/02/2009 Awesome tutorial! You explain things very clearly and make it very easy to follow! Why is it when I follow the tutorial and I change the standard from square pixels to the 1.21 my pixels get all fuzzy and when I bring it into Encore, it never fixes. Thanks Greetings from Libya by Timinator 06/06/2009 Andrew, you rock. But, why are you teaching us old skool tech like DVD authoring? LOL Just kidding... I have a feeling standard def DVD's will be around a lot longer than most people predict. I remember when I was a kid, I thought people would be traveling around in hover cars by the year 2000! (thanks a lot for the let down, George Lucas) Instead, we are still traveling around on rubber tires that were first used over 100 years ago! So, don't count SD DVD's out anytime soon. by GottaLaunch 06/06/2009 Great! but now i still don't know how to make a scene selection :(... by Tiago Cardoso 06/05/2009 he is really nice.. i love his tutorials... thankss..!! by chinese student 06/05/2009 Why i can't watch the tutorials? Is it because i in china? by Sebastian McKelvey 06/05/2009 Hey Andrew, awesome tutorial. I'm sure it cleared up and questions about DVD authoring that people (including myself ;P) might've had. But I have a question, instead rendering the menu out as a video in AE, why don't you just open the project in Encore? Wouldn't it be lossless quality this way? That way Encore doesn't have to butcher the quality of an already quality-butchered video. by Tedman 06/05/2009 Man I which I had seen this earlier. I had to learn the hard way through hours of research/trial and error. Great tutorial though. by ernie 06/05/2009 i enjoy this ....one of the best time spend on pc by JANU 06/05/2009 man!!!!!!!!!! this is soooo helpful. thanks a lot ... :) by Raymond 06/05/2009 Very helpful. Thank you. by Don 06/05/2009 Andrew, Always enjoy your tutorials.... Just wanted to chime in on the set location for Recon Man IV... I'm pretty sure that's in the basement / parking garage of where I work. Do you work here in this building as well?! by levi 06/05/2009 you're the one man! thx by Christos Montes 06/05/2009 Very good tutorial, but I think you lost it at one point. When you render a motion menu you must make sure that you do it in a intra-frame video (DV, Uncompressed, Quicktime, anything else) and NOT MPEG, except if you have the option to choose where to manually place I-frames. The reason for this is that in an MPEG2 video like the one you rendered out here, not all frames exist in all the video (MPEG2 standard GOP). In order to have the video loop at the EXACT frame, by DVD spec, you need to make sure this is an I-frame. The way you did it doesn't ensure that and it can work only by chance. The loop point will be somewhere there but not at the EXACT frame you want it. So you are better exporting in AVI (or Quicktime) and letting Encore do the MPEG, so it can place an I-frame where it is supposed to be placed,in order for the loop to work as desired. Thank you again though for the AWESOME tutorials and the major break you have done in the Motion Design industry... by sw_double 06/05/2009 thank you so much =* by noliebox 06/05/2009 Andrew the man....your my idol.....i hope u can visit philipppines...ur such a good visual artist and motion graphics. i hope that u can made the whole world known of your works...thanks by newbie 06/05/2009 You are EXCEPTIONAL MR "Cramm'er", Both for the the most outstanding "real life" tutorials you present and your "mind-reading" skills of our needs. When I select Mpeg-DVD from the drop down in the output module, and follow AK's settings to the letter from the tutorial, my file is .mpg. I don't get it. When you dropped comp1 into comp2 with a DV Widescreen you mention that it stretched the text. Why did you choose to make it in one format(1.00 pixel aspect) and then dump into another format(1.21 pixel aspect) when it pixelates the text? What are the issues with making the first comp in the DV Widescreen format (1.21)? I am asking because my text always pixelates when I send to DVD. But what's with the cheeky gits complaining about what they would've rather you did? Yeah, yeah constructive criticism is all good, but if you're getting a thing for free? The whole point is to give us noobs (or not so noobs) a clue about how to use the software in simple terms. Then it's up to us to experiment and be creative with how we use it! I know your a visual effects artist and not a fight choreographer so i forgive you :D. but for anyone else out there think about your use of angles when you shoot, one miss in a fight scene will make the whole film loss credability. by Timothy 06/02/2009 I was wondering what the Picture ASSOCTION might be ;) by Tarek 06/02/2009 U r awesome by Vex.se 06/02/2009 Thanks for this Andrew. XD by Knappy 06/01/2009 I quite enjoyed Short Circuit also! ![]() by rygrun 06/01/2009 just what was needed. we can count on you. thanks by revelation 06/01/2009 Yo, Andrew! I have a question about Encore. I wanted to know how to make sure the button highlight goes to the next button after a movie is played. Example: I've just finished watching the movie and it goes back to the main menu, but I want the "Bonus Features" button highlighted instead of the "Play Feature" button. Also, how would I make the main menu stay on the loop, instead of starting from zero on the time line, after returning from another menu? Example: I go to bonus features, but go back to the main menu, but the main menu video has started at the beginning instead of looping at the 2 second marker. by jimmy 06/01/2009 nice ME GUSTO MUCHOOOOOOOO se te agradece sigue asiiiiiii man saludos desde (PERU) by Darshan 06/01/2009 Recently working on my Demoreel n tried to dig out for making a proper DVD n finally blessed with this tutorial..... AAARRRGH! Thanks, though. by Parkie 06/01/2009 Ah yes - "Short Circuit"! Ally Sheedy by Wes 06/01/2009 Great tutorial. My only complaint is right when you were talking about bit rates in the export settings of after effects, it skips a section, the part where I assume you were talking about why you picked CBR at 6Mbps. I was dying to hear what a good bitrate for a DVD is and why? Love your site and your products man, and any chance I get to tell colleagues in my industry about you, I do it.
