To Mr. Kramer. Thank you for your tutorials, they are not only educational, but fun to watch. Although I suspect the "super-duper" exciting music you use at the beginning of every tutorial is the reason why. So, yeah, just to let you know... we're on to you man. One thing though, you forgot to mention how you made the ball of light... I'm baffled by how you connected your glowing ball to the beginning of the particles. by Aaron 08/04/2009 Where do you get the 'Gear FX'? :s by Aaron. 08/04/2009 Dear Andrew, I can you are a very advanced user of the after effects, and probably the best I've ever seen, me myself am a beginner so i have a few questions hopefully you can get back to me, The pictures of the walls, where do i get them? I thought it might of been in the project so i downloaded that, but could not find it, I don't think it is there. Aaron (: by artep 08/02/2009 I figured it out, thanks for all your non-help! I'll post the solution in case anyone else had the same problem. It seems like after effects does not realise the values are already set to 0, in Radius X, Y, Z. So just go to them and move the values away from 0 and then back to 0. Voila! by artep 08/01/2009 @ Steve (and the others who had the same problem) You need to Alt click ON THE STOPWATCH (it's an image of a little white clock). I clicked all over the place until I saw a popup and I happened to see Alt click in it. by artep 08/01/2009 Hi Andrew, thanks for the wonderful video. However, when the video gets to around 4 minutes and you turn everything down to 0, you have 1 particle. This is not my case. I have many particles. I am using the newest After Effects. Help appreciated. Oh and Michelle, when I have the particle type as line, when I turn it down to 0 it disappears but when I chose another particle type, say lens convex, I can see the particle. Good luck! by Japjeev 08/01/2009 Hey Andrew... u seriously rock big time man... thanks a lot for all the wonderful tutorials... by Boggy 07/31/2009 Really cool! Thank you Andrew! You're the best! ;) by Michelle 07/29/2009 I can't get my particle to show up. As soon as I put the gravity at zero they all disappear. On 5th minute Andrew set a CC particle world and set producer and physics at zero. And then he show what particle stroke is builded up. But when i repeat from Andrew i can't see stroke. If only do not set to zero velocity, for example if i set velocity 0.01 then i see stroke. But in this tutor velocity 0. why it's happened? thank you for answer. by mohamed 06/13/2009 hi my name is mohamed i love my jub and thank you for prjects After Effects thanks Andrew by phedro 06/11/2009 stunning! hope i'll be like you someday.. apir! hehee by giank 06/09/2009 very cool by Corné 06/07/2009 i like this tut and found a cool thing turn on the grafity and velocity to get a great effects by Reddy 06/07/2009 hey u r tuts is superb yaar thank u i love u by marko_croatia 05/30/2009 all this is nice... but how u learn all this ? :D by MARIO 05/29/2009 Muy ueno el tuto lastima q ste en ingles... jejeej xD no cabe duda q sos el mejor. a ver cuando sacan unos cuantos tutos en espanol. by Sam 05/24/2009 www.videocopilot.com MY HOME PAGE The greatest tut ever Thnkng you Sam by someone,, 05/24/2009 awsome dude keep up the amazing work !!!! 10000/10000 by Ramji Shrestha 05/24/2009 Very nice! The one problem I am having is when you explain to alt click for the positions to be the same for the Null space. Nothing happens when I alt Click. I am on a Mac Pro machine by Remington McElhaney 03/27/2009 I have the same problem as everyone else. I can see a single particle when everything is turned down to zero, but it's when I use the expressions to link the particle to the null object that it dissapears. I'm using AE CS4 and every other tutorial seems to work fine except this one. I've linked things before to null objects by using that same expression, so the expression works but something happens to the particle. Hope someone manages to figure it out. Thanks for all your tutorials! by Ovash 03/27/2009 @Taztus : Same problem here, I think this tutorial was made with an old version of CC particular, I don't see any other reason. I tried every single option and there's no way I can get the effect needed... by Bob 03/24/2009 Great stuff, as always! I have one question though... ... Just kidding! keep up all the great work! by kris 03/24/2009 does anyone know how to to this effect in cs3, cs3 doesnt have the option for simulate particle it only has particle playground which doesnt have the same options so i cant do this effect by darahluvu 03/23/2009 i dont get how this help with light writing like how i see pplz do on youtube like nanno im trying to do dat by Taztus 03/20/2009 Hey Andrew! I have a problem.. i can't see a pixel when i make an particle world and set all te setting to 0.. it all disappears.. If i change the particle to Lens Convex it will go to a really strange place.. Also when i do this an a new project.. i can't see a thing when i put all the settings to zero.. What can i do, I'm just a beginner, so maybe it sounds stupid.. greetz, Taztus by Francisco 03/19/2009 In the minute 6:20 when he set the positions. Innocent from BOtswana by RAEDEN TORIBIO 09/24/2008 im 9 yrs. old i watchin ur tutorial men thank yo u by Sickness 09/23/2008 Great tutorial Andrew. Now if anyone wants the camera to follow the particle from a distance you can do the following. Create a new expression at the camera position and add this: x = thisComp.layer("NullObject").transform.position[0]; y = thisComp.layer("NullObject").transform.position[1]; z = thisComp.layer("NullObject").transform.position[2]-800; [x,y,z] Where at z the "-800" is the distance you want it to be from the particle and "NullObject" is obviously the NullObject which the particle follows. by MacMillan 09/19/2008 Thanks a lot to Andrew, Sam, and all the other guys from video copilot.net it was a very great tutorial thx. by Les Rehklau 09/18/2008 guess this was created in 7.0.1 AE and I have CS3 so it has to convert, but complains that CC Particle World is missing, is this AE's particle or 3rd party. Nice Demo by Pete 09/17/2008 Hi Andrew I have been watching a lot of your tutorials, but this one on 3d stokes and using the particle world is just not working. The expression that you have given just don't work and I'm not getting that cool trail, when moving the Null object around. Is there another way to use the expression or another to simulate a similar style. Cheers and thanks so far for your tutorials by DreD 09/17/2008 Thank you Andrew! You rule! We are using some of your stuff to build our music video. Our tunes are at www.myspace.com/theredlimit Thanks again Andrew and Crew! by Foxster 08/31/2008 Hi, whenever I do something on After Effects (or I try to get ahold of you "project") I cant seem to save (well I can but my PC doesnt reccognise the file when it saves it.. I've been doing your tutorials to learn after effects, and I have to say that you are the best teacher online that I have ever witnessed accross all programs. I have a small problem with this one though. I can get it to work every single time when I do this by itself, I can't get it to work on existing projects. Do the calculations have to be different for PAL/DV screen sizes? The particle is still connected although it moves only extremely slightly. By the way, I am no good in expression and thus, is it possible to manually control movements of the 3D-stroke effect in AE rather instead of relying on expression? I'm a buyer! I'm a buyer! by Mark 07/23/2008 I'm trying to get more control out of the POINT null by parenting it to another null which I would offset & rotate to get corkscrew/ circular effects, but the expression wont allow it to work when parented. You said you use After Effects 7, so I was wondering if it was because I'm using CS3? Nevertheless, a great tutorial! It's great that you make these for everyone to see, and, not to mention, they're all free...Well, most of them anyways. Thanks Tutorial ![]() by erik houtman 05/28/2008 hi again, as the result of my previous post, no formula would probably solve this, but if you do want to make a widescreen edit of this, make sure you use a "square pixel" composition that's that... this is an awesome tutorial by the way, definitely going to use it for school by Erik Houtman 05/28/2008 hi andrew.. first of all, thanks for the awesome tutorials.. some give me some trouble but still i can mostly use them for my school work. just notifying also for everyone else who reades, this tutorial does not work as nice in widescreen. there's a problem with the particle height expression. i'm trying to figure it out and i'll post it as soon as i do greetz by ultramizer 05/28/2008 Love your tuts!!! by Carlo Mario Spadafora 05/23/2008 Man you rock. "I cant do the most interesting part because every time I bring the values for the particle down to zero, its invible or not even there so when I adjust the x,y,z position nothing changes so Theres no point in even creating the null object. this is so frustrating!" ...regards... form italy by المعتصم بالله 05/11/2008 Dear Andrew. (A very important effect for believability.) It's pretty obvious to me that you probably just parented the light you created to the null layer, but perhaps it won't be to some. Keep up the good work, I really enjoyed the AE basics tutorial series. ![]() by Ricky 04/10/2008 Hi, I like this tutorial, but I don't really like it if you say "with built-in tools from AE7" and it's not the truth ![]() My CC Particle has the same green lines (X) on the screen. PS: sorry for my english, I'm brazilian, living in Canada, so i still learning english ![]() Thanks guys by Laurie 03/31/2008 Hi, first time commenter, long time viewer. I love your work! I am a huge fan. ![]() I am having a little trouble with this one and was wondering if you know where I went wrong. I was trying to do the 3D Stroke Effect tutorial and I get as far as setting all the physics to zero and then I don't even have a spec on my screen. I see nothing, even when I continue on with the tutorial, nothing is there. I tried moving the playhead and played with the Producer positions. Only when I add gravity or velocity I see the particle. When I do that it's way to big and my streak doesn't look like a streak. Any ideas. I am using CS3 on my Imac with intel. Thanks ![]() by Jardon 03/30/2008 thanks for the tutorial you shared..i've learn a lot by ND 03/26/2008 Hello! I need to purchase the cycore effects - and the cycore site is for a better term 'lacking' - I am running AE7 and have basically opened it up today so I know nothing... is 6.5 the correct version to order ($49) - or do i need the HD version ($249) I understand that the package is on the install disk - but the support group does our installs and doesn't understand how this works - their response: "its already installed" - I cant wait 4 months while they try to figure it out :) Thanks in advance! by hani4d 03/23/2008 thanks andrew u learn me more by Bambula 03/23/2008 Hi Andrew, the first time I would like to say a lot of thanks. But I have a quastion. How can I make this stroke in real 3D? I can't do that this stroke move around a object. Example if i want that this stroke moving around a text (3D layer), I cant do it. The text is always in front of the stroke. If I change the "particles" layer to 3D layer I can moving it in front of the text, but I it is always there, and i cant make a motion.
