Great video, can't believe 5 years passed that fast :/
One thing I found out: I had the problem that I could not see the lightstreak, despite I exactly followed Andrew's tutorial so I found out that you have to change the duration of "particle_50" to the duration of your "Nano_Ad", this works for me and I hope it may also helps somebody of you...
you're misusing the word, there is nothing ironic about that.

Could you put this onto a shot and have it sort of come up and around an object? So some how make the background an alpha channel or what not and layer it ontop of a shot instead of having just a black background.
I'm using CS5 and trapcode 2 and when I play the video It's just a point moving around the screen... It doesn't have a "tail" like in your video. What's wrong? :/

Here's a tip that stumped me for 15 minutes...MAKE SURE YOU CAPITALIZE THE E in Emitter! I had "emitter", and was getting squat in CS5. Also, as others suggest go down to TEXTURE to select your custom layer.
I was thinking that the way they probably did it was to set a motion tracking point to the ipod nano. Also, I'm wondering if they just shot the dancers in low light used a color change effect. Just a though on how they could do it exactly like the commercial.
I had the same problem. I have chosen 'sprite' like Edward suggested but no sign of the custom controls further down in particle. Any suggestions?? When i play demo with it set to 'sprite' nothing shows up...?

ah, in 2.1 (i have it) its pretty much the same as "sprite"
just use that, the custom controls are a little further down than this one

Hey Andrew. Great tuts man! Really helpful.. On this one, just one question:
If I want my particles to move in paths that I make, and not just random wiggles, how can I do so?
i saw this yesterday and it was funny that you mentioned that 5 years from you may not know what i am talking about.
Its been 4 years and yes i didnt know what you were talking about.

Daniel-
I don't know how I got it to work, but eventually I did. It took me 15 min to get it working, the last thing I did before it started working was I shuffled Color FX layer down to just above the particle_50 layer, which I had as the dead last layer under the BG layer. I turned off all the layers but those two, turned off and on 'colorize', not much effect. Then I put everything back where it was and turned all the layers back on and it started working. Weird and frustrating. Try shuffling your layers around, mess with the Hue/Sat effect as far as turning off and on colorize, maybe you will stumble across it like I did! GL.

Hi Andrew, Love your tuts. So helpful and clear..
With this one, I'm having a small problem. My swirly has the same colour throughout, even on the more opaque areas where your swirly approaches white on these ares. "Colorize" in hue/saturation only seems to work when I have shading ticked in Particular, but then something happens where bits of the swirly get blocked or something.. If you or anyone else could point me in the right direction, I'd be so grateful..
Thank you!
The red X is there because you're using the trial version of particular. To remove the X you have to enter the serial code you get when purchasing particular :)
Hope this information helped you out ;)

Hey Vincent, you've probably sorted this out by now, but you select "Sprite" instead of custom :)

i do not have the custom particle in fact i have more settings than you do so I'm going to delete the particle_50 layer and try it with a preset particle that they gave me and see if it works
Okay man, i love your tutorials but the explaination of the mask, when it turns black is Shit. I dont get it, you dont explain how you make it black, someone please reply, i've been stuck on this for 4 friggen hours.
just use that, the custom controls are a little further down than this one
