Sean, I had the same problem. When precomposing, it helped when I checked "move all attributes..", cause in default in my AE it was "leave all attr..".

I know your post is years old, but just in case this is still useful.

Nice tutorial! But cant you make the same thing with two movielayers, one with lens blur and the other without and make a soft mask that you animate?

First and foremost.. AWESOME tutorials!

Since AE isn't a video editing software per say.. do you chop footage..add effects in AE.. then re-compile footage in your video editing software? I'm new to this so don't hate me for asking dumb q's :)

I just feel I wanna use these effects in ALL my videos.. but adding each clips seems very time consuming.. any advice?
