Export Wireframe from Blender/3d max as Texture for E3D?

Postby mika1977 on 10/26/2017, 1:50 pm

Hi guys,

I bought a 3d model (obj and fxb format) and want to use it in a title design animation with after effects and element 3d.
I prefer the wireframe look from the preview graphic rather than the element 3d wireframe.
Here is a wireframe screenshot from the website I bought the model:

I guess this is the wireframe look from blender or 3ds max...

Is there a way to export the wireframe look from blender as a texture so that I can use the cool looking wireframe in element 3d?
I watched tutorials where it's explained how to render a model with that wireframe look, but I want to animate inside E3D and AE, so that's not gonna work.

Does anyone know a tutorial or a way how to get this wireframe look inside E3Dß

Thanks for helping out!!!!

Cheers,
Mika

You could duplicate the model, the one below with white and the top with wireframe and attempt to lay them on top of one another within the same group.

thanks for answering. but my problem is: how do I get that special texture? it's not the E3D wireframe-texture...
I guess it's rendered in 3ds max... is it possible to export (not render) the wiredrame in 3ds max (or blender), so that I can import it in E3D and use that wreframe texture as a material, animate it inside after effects and render it also in AE?
thanks for helping out.

Well if you say it's different than no, no method but I am curious what difference you see between a wireframe of the same model in Element and blender/3d max.

Kinda late on this, but you can export the UV layout from Blender. Make a UV image that is large enough (4K or 8K) and export the UV layout, then use this as a texture on the model. May need to enhance the wireframe outlines in photoshop, they come out 1 pixel thick by default.

The difference in look is that E3D always renders triangles without faces, whereas you can get quads on solid faces out of Blender this way. Used as a texture, the wireframe line thickness will vary, though, depending on the view angle of a given face.
