Photoshop Jepg comes out Dark via Cinema 4D multipass

Postby sorout on 09/12/2011, 1:42 pm

k.. here's the deal: I made a model in Cinema 4D, rendered it in PSD as multipass, opened in photoshop.. everything looks good.... then I saved it in Jepg, picture gets very dark. (but when I reopened the same Jpeg file in photoshop, it's not dark, appears all good)... NOW, i rendered the same model in PSD without multipass, opened in photoshop, saved it in jpeg, everything is good, nothing is dark. Why's that?

Make sure the bit depth and color space when switching from application to application is the same so you have predictable and repeatable lightness/and color. Increased dynamic range from higher bit depth images get compressed and can look strange when you are in a program that doesn't support them or is in the wrong setting. Likewise with the color space, AdobeRGB vs sRGB and the different gamut that each have can make images have strange color casts or even loose detail in certain areas.
