Does Anyone know the name of this font?

Postby TrunxX69 on 11/14/2009, 10:06 am

Hey guys I need this font for an upcoming project I'm doing and I was wondering if anyone knew the name of this font. It was Used in The Spider man 1 - 3 Opening Credits. Or anything close to it.

You can also view the credits on Youtube. I would really appreciate it.:)

That's not it. Look at the letters in the names, especially the letter "A" and then look at the font you posted. The one you posted is the font they use for the Title "Spiderman" in the movies like below.

Not too sure...it will take much hunting. I can tell you this though, it is a slab-serif type face. Most likely designed by a true type designer and probably a paid typeface. Try looking on these sites from these type foundries:

http://www.fontshop.com/fonts/foundry/

http://www.fontbureau.com/

http://www.typography.com/home/index.php

PS: a font is one set of characters from a font family, many fonts of many weights and styles are derived from a base type design or typeface that encapsulates the entire font family.

Thanks I manage to find it using Whatthefont. You were right it is a commercial font.

Mod Edit: Of course if it is a COMMERCIAL FONT you have to pay for it, C'mon it's 27 €!

Here it is:

That's not a bad price at all. Graphic Artists and Design firms pay thousands of dollars for well designed type. I'm not a big studio but have invested a descent amount of money for type.

If you really want that typeface, and try to substitute it for something free, you will more than likely not like the design, and purchase the type eventually.

So, my suggestion is purchase it, but hunt around. Now that you know the name of if, see what other sites are selling it for you might find it on sale, or a package deal of fonts.

Best of Luck,

I think they made it themselves. D you really think the vfx teams behind the Spider-man films just search the web for some cool fonts to use. I'm sure they made it just for this film.

Most design firms and productions studios take the time to research type foundries for new well designed type families, or they contract a typographer that either free lances or works for such a firm to design a typeface.

Such as www.fontbureau.com, www.processtypefoundry.com, or www.linotype.com for example. These are some of the larger foundries that exist. David Berlow was contracted by Macromedia to design their former corporate identity package by drafting the Vonness typeface before they were engulfed by Adobe.

I know this because I am a graphic artist, and always keep a look out for new well designed and interesting type.

PS: VFX artists should be trained about the specificities of type design and be able to identify well known and professionally used type families.

Furthermore, the term fonts are commonly mis-used when people who are uneducated about type discuss them. Fun fact a font is a single weight and variation of a typeface which usually is an entire family of fonts in a series that uses various weights, ligatures, italics, bolds, black, condensed, light, and thin weights.

Another thing that's done a lot of times, especially for movies and things of that nature is they will create a variation on a typeface. So, often you will never be able to find the exact font. This might be the case for the spiderman title sequence.. The font you found is definitely very close, but not really the same. Look at the "R" for a glaring example of the differences =]

Old thread, but the name of the font is "Delux". See here: http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/virusfonts/delux/ I used it on a tutorial for AE.Tutsplus.com. Enjoy!

I started out learning graphic design in college. At the beginning you think, "What, we really need a class just on how to use type?" But I ended up feeling like it was more beneficial than almost all of my other art classes. Often the type makes or breaks the entire design.
