how do i control the way an object OBJ accepts a material?

Postby matty1000 on 01/7/2016, 10:14 pm

hi im new to the forum

currently i am creating a custom police car animation, by modifying an existing one i downloaded.

i have simply put the texture file into photoshop and replaced the parts of the material with new designs.

i notice the old one repeats part of the texture in different parts of the car and this has created problems for me because, for example i want a white bumper, but a black grill... the OBJ seems to use part of the bumper for its grill, meaning they have to be the same color.

please see the following image, where i placed a green square on the bumper, and it has automatically changed the grill to green aswell.

You could modify the model to compensate for this.

... meaning in a 3D modeling program.

Assuming you are texturing in Element, the other option, somewhat cumbersome, is to duplicate the model in Element (possibly multiple times) and use the Mesh mode to hide and show different parts of it. Then you can use a different texture for the model where you have hidden parts that you don't want to be affected. This is possible if the model actually has separate meshes for the parts you want.
