Difference of using AI to Created shape in AE

Postby coolmilo on 08/15/2013, 5:52 pm

I recently saw a tutorial where the editor converted his AI files to Shapes using the "Create Shapes from Vector"

What is the benefit in createing the shapes and not using the illustrator vector files instead?
Does AE perform better?
Or Can I add more effects?

Thanks

You can get access to all the features that are available only for shape layers, like repeater, trim paths, and a whole host of others. Plus the gradient controls specifically for shape layers offer a lot more flexibility too that you might want to check out.
