Photoshop and Optical Flares

Postby darthgus on 05/24/2013, 1:49 am

Hi There,

I've used optical flares with After Effects extensively, and I love using the Flare Studio. But I find myself called upon more and more often to work within Photoshop, and Photoshop's built in flares are limited and clunky in comparison.

Is there a way to integrate Optical Flares with Photoshop, so that I can place the flare directly in Photoshop just as I would do in AE?

The answer is likely "No", but I live in hope.

Never really tried this myself, but I'd assume you could create the flare in AE, render out a still frame as a .png file, and then composite it into your Photoshop project.

It's fairly simple. Import a file the size of your PSD file (in this example, I imported a jpg of the image) Create a new comp of the image by dragging it down to the "Create New Composition" tab. Make a new black layer and add your Optical Flare to it. Get it where you want, then make sure you put the layer blending mode back on Normal. Use VC's "Copy Frame to Clipboard" plug-in, then paste into your PS document. Then just a matter of Changing your blending mode to Add, ad there you go.
