aside from moving the layer you want `untouched` ABOVE the adjustment layer then no..

Re: adjustment layers
cant you maybe say for a certain layer the opacity is nil for the adjustment layer. and enter it onto the opacity of the adjustment layer.

Once more: What is not there as a normal control, cannot be done with expressions. If it were possible, a switch would be in place. Since it isn't, it can't be done. Pre-compose and restructure your project.

Re: adjustment layers
thats what i always have to do. hence the reason for asking for an expression.all my comps end up huge nowadays and sometimes it would be so much easier to stop a layer from reacting to an djustment. precomping slows things down so much. im surprised there wasn't a switch added to cs4. fingers crossed for the feature in cs5.

Hi,
Is there still no solution to this? other than re-structuring your comps ?

Re: adjustment layers
i think its nuts that its not possible. i rack up so many comps and layers because of it. i bet they get it wrong in cs5 yet again. maybe the problem is these developers dont use ae enough to realise the the little things that niggle us to fix. to be honest i find ae very stable. i rotoed a 49 sec shot of which in the end has a crazy amount of masks and keyframes. i think i was getting close to 100 layers in just one comp. ae was great. its just those damn little things. i think utilising more processor is vital and again lots more work on the masks as their very limited. a setting for default mask colour would be helpful. as creating mattes i work in alpha view and yellow masks are almost invisible.
