Auxiliary Animation - Hinge and Screen

Postby RPSchmidt on 11/7/2017, 10:07 am

Hello all. I searched the forum and I couldn't find an answer that fit my situation. It is entirely possible that I don't know enough about my issue to find a usable answer, so I apologize for the simple nature of this question.

In scene setup, I created a Group Folder. In the folder are Hinge_05 and Screen_06.

I assigned Aux Transform Channel 1 to Hinge5_Swing_Arm.

I lined up Screen_06 to the end of the Hinge5_Swing_Arm.

I moved Screen_06 pivot point to line up with Hinge5_Swing_Arm pivot point.

However; the pivot points are not aligned in XYZ. The X of the two objects are facing in the opposite direction, which results in oppositional behavior when I try to use Rotation in Aux Channel 1.

I thought this would be a simple animation; "attach" a screen to a hinge, rotate the hinge, and the screen follows the hinge. But there doesn't appear to be any way to change the pivot point orientation to match the hinge.

What am I missing here? Are there any good tutorials that show these relationships? I thought I would be able to rotate the pivot on Screen_06 to match the pivot orientation of Hinge5_Swing_Arm, but I can't find a way to do it.

Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.
