Animation like this with Element 3D and AE

Is it possible to create an animation similar to this example without using 3d software like Maya, Cinema3d or 3D max? Or just using After Effect and Element 3D?

This is very possible to accomplish with Element. Although, it would be best to build the models in a program like Blender (a free program with plenty of tutorials online). Once everything is built and set-up in Element it wouldn't take much effort to accomplish that exact animation. And it could be fun--give it a shot!

The only foreseeable problem I see is achieving the front cut-off effect with Element. It will take some planning, for you'll have to create an animated texture that is transparent forward of the cut-off point (the transparency edge moving at the same speed as the model so as to appear to stay in place) and have all the UVs line up so that the cut-off appears along the same line for the entire set of models.
