GUI upscaling on a UHD Monitor

Postby chrisbrearley on 02/20/2015, 7:09 am

Just upgraded to a 32" UHD Monitor and the E3D GUI doesn't upscale fonts according to windows font upscaling settings. Things are very small and will cause eye-strain if used for a long period. I would imagine on a 27" UHD monitor it would be almost unusable. Are we likely to see an update in the future for a font upscaling option?

What AE are you running? Cs6 offers no scaling but cc does however not sure if it extends to plugin ui

CC 2014. AE scales fine, but element doesn't.

Strange, I use a 30" Mac monitor and have no problems.
Have you checked your monitor resolution?
I love goooooold. The look of it, the daste of it, the schmell of it, the dexture.
I love gold so much that I even lost my genitalia in an unfortunate schmelting accident. Hence the name....

^ UHD is 4k resolution. I'm guessing your monitor is 2560x1440 or a resolution other than 4k.

I am about to switch to a 28" UDH on Friday (i7, windows8, GTX790). Is there anyone that is NOT having this problem with their UHD?

Oh dear. UHD is not 4k. 4k is 4096 x 2160, UHD is 3840x2160.

My monitor is UHD, not 2560x1440. My previous monitor was 2560x1440, Element is more than usable at that resolution.

As a video professional I would expect you to know the difference between the two.

Chris, I was responding to the guy that has the 30" Mac monitor. I wasn't aware they made that monitor in a 4k or UHD resolution. Maybe they have a new product, but the only 30" Mac monitors I know about are 2560 res.

I also am aware that UHD and 4k are not exactly the same. I was using the term loosely.

And I don't appreciate your last comment. I suggest this forum is somewhere we come to ask questions and get answers, not disrespect each other.

I can confirm that Element 3D is virtually unusable on a 27" UHD monitor. The menus are unreadable. I'm not aware of any solution to the problem. AE scales just fine.

Changing the display settings on your computer won't make a difference. I'm using a UHD laptop connected via HDMI to a HD screen and when I drag the dialog box over the fonts are still unreadable. This is what it looks like and it's really straining on the eyes. Any news on new updates?

I'm on an HP Z27q 5k display and also have difficulties using Element 3D with the non-scaled GUI. Anything we can do to place a feature request? I have to imagine more and more people are working on HiDPI displays these days and this issue with Element 3D is only going to become more prevalent.

I have canceled my order because of the GUI and wrote the issue to the customer office.
They will fix that but when....weeks, months or even longer?

I am having the exact same problem on my laptop. Even when I switch my machine over to 1920x1080, After Effects looks like crap with huge icons and fonts, but Elements 3D, oddly, stays very very tiny. It's the strangest thing I've seen in a long time. Please give us the option to adjust the interface. >-||

I got some problem then I tried this method :

"How To Make Adobe Software Display Larger On High Resolution Monitors"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4GCfugE0xQ

It makes whole interface of AE become 1080p, and element 3D become normal size.

Hello, Same problem here, buuuuuuut ...
I had an answer from the support team :
There is no current option to change this in Element, but our devs are working on this for the next update.
The only possible workaround would be to change the resolution on the screen.

Anything but lol ???

I was having the same problem with Element, Optical Flares and Trapcode Particular's effects builder interface. Here's how I was able to solve it on my Windows 10 computer.

Find the AfterFX.exe file. Mine is located here: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CC 2017\Support Files

Right-click on AfterFX.exe and select properties.
Click on the compatibility tab.
Select the checkbox labeled "Override high DPI scaling behavior.
Underneath that checkbox select "System" from the dropdown and apply.

Hope this helps someone.
