Re: How to do this effect?
Hi there Casko.
Glad you like the effect, or at least I suppose you do....
It´s quite easy to make it, all you have to do i so spend some time masking out the separate layers in Photoshop for example, then you line them up in AfterEffects and put them into different Z-space positions and add a camera. You will notice that you will get some limitations on how you are able to move the camera, but it´s a very simple way to make a nice effect.
Also, Andrew has posted a tutorial on how to make this effect her on videocopilot, I bet you want to check that out:

Thank you.
Yea, it´s all AE except the intro and credits where the text is done in Cinema 4D.

Thank you.
As I said, Andrew has already made a tutorial on this effect. You don´t have to look any further than the page you are already at:

OK, so for the guy hanging in mid air, did you just take multiple pictures of the guy from different angles? From what it sounds like, you only had one camera, so you didn't use multiple cameras shooting in sync. Did you have the guy laying on something that you cloned out in PS to get that position he's in?

Yeah, I looked at Andrew's tutorial and there's more going on here than just some cutting apart a pic in PS. Notice how the guy's arms distort as the camera gets closer, fisheye effect perhaps? And yeah, the pic is pretty high quality and from different angles. Like I said, you had to have taken several photos of the guy from different angles. As to whether he was falling, possible, but you would have had to of used a very fast shutter speed to capture him minimal motion blur. I'm still guessing he was laying on something that you cloned out.

Re: How to do this effect?
He used the puppet tool for the arm's distort, I think. Am I correct?

That's a possibility. Upon further inspection of the clip, that distorting was used on the jacket as well in several places. Like I said, it's how they got the guy in that position is what I want to know.

Re: How to do this effect?
nice try, got the same sound but i think would have been better if you use same technique as he did, i mean taking shots from different angle of the man all at once.
am still wondering if he actually took shot of the man from different angles or he took one shot and manipulate it to go different angles.

Re: How to do this effect?
i think it looks more difficult than it actually is
The particles make it look like the photo is actually moving
Plus i think he would've been suspended and filmed on a high speed to get it so smooth

Re: How to do this effect?
Hi there everyone.
Seems like this video was quite successful, glad to hear that so many of you liked it.
A lot of people has asked about the setup of the scene, how the guy in mid air got up there.
Well, i do know since i´m the one hanging there. The scene was shot with me hanging in two ropes stretched across the scene, one below my shoulders and one across the back of my legs/knees.
Friend and photographer Martin Nordqvist took a series of shots from alot of different angles, far more then what was used in the video, Using a single Canon Eos 5D SLR camera and a Profoto Flash with a reflecting umbrella on a tripod. The shooting took like two hours, so i´m glad to see from all the positive feedback was worth the pain in my back and my legs.
The ropes was taken away in Photoshop, the arms and the sweater was distorted by using the puppet tool in After Effects where all the other animations was made except the title sequence that was made in Cinema 4D.
The song is by edIT, and is called Twenty Minutes taken from his album Crying over pros for no reason. Go buy that album, it´s awesome.
