OPTICAL FLARES CS6 Problem
Hi.
I just installed cs6 today and installed optical flares with no problems. However as soon as I go to open the options window it crashes the whole software. Is this a problem between cs6 and the plug in or am I doing something wrong. Have others had similar problems?

Yeh, just look around on the forum. Quite a few people seem to have had trouble with this.

I don't know that optical flares is compatible with CS6 yet. Is there an update coming out?

Re: OPTICAL FLARES CS6 Problem
This is kind of a huge problem for me as I have a big job coming up and I dont want to have to trade in my optical flares for Knoll. But I have to use scarlet footage and the workflow is easier in cs6. Hopefully somebody will post an answer soon.

Re: OPTICAL FLARES CS6 Problem
I have not had the same issues. Optical Flares works perfectly for me in CS6. I am not posting this to make those with this issue upset.
But rather to address some other posts I found about this topic.
On Todd Kopriva's Blog http://blogs.adobe.com/toddkopriva/2012/05/plug-ins-for-after-effects-cs6.html he states "There have been few significant changes to the effect plug-in API for After Effects CS6, so you shouldn’t need new versions of most plug-ins for After Effects CS6, if you already have plug-ins that work for After Effects CS5 or CS5.5." He does go on to say that, "That said, there are a few changes that have required some vendors to need to update their plug-ins."
Both Todd Kopriva & Toolfarm.com believe most of the issues are not with the compatibility of the plug ins, but the installers themselves.
"Just because a product is listed as compatible does not mean that there is necessarily an installer ready for the product yet. Users can curtail this issue by moving plug-ins and making aliases. Below is the instructions about how to move AE CS5 plug-ins to AE CS5.5 and the same procedure applies to AE CS6."
http://www.toolfarm.com/blog/entry/compatibility_adobe_cs6_3rd_party_plug_ins_updates
Toolfarm.com does state that OF works with CS6. And, like I said at the top of this post, it works for me. So let me walk you through what I did.
I have CS5 Master & CS6 Master on my main machine. I did NOT re install OF - I simply copy pasted all needed files and my key from AE CS5 to my AE CS6. Which is the same pathway as some of the other posters have already listed.
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe After Effects CS6\Support Files\Plug-ins\Optical Flares
In that folder I have two folders OF Presets & OF Textures and I also have the OF.aex file and the OFLicense.lic file.

Re: OPTICAL FLARES CS6 Problem
I'm pretty sure this is an NVIDIA problem. It was working fine with my ATI card, but i swapped it when CS6 came out. Now both 5.5 and CS6 crash as soon as i interact or open the OF interface.

I think he's right. I just upgraded video cards and now I'm getting the crash.
On my GT120 it worked fine in CS6 but now I'm using a GTX570 and it's crashing on the options menu.

Re: OPTICAL FLARES CS6 Problem
I think I found a fix. I was having a similar issue. I just upgraded to CS6 and swapped my card to the Quadro 4000 for Mac and Optical Flares kept crashing. Finally, I unchecked the "Use GPU" box and it seems to work crash-free now.

Re: OPTICAL FLARES CS6 Problem
Hi,
Thank you for contacting our support! Unfortunately there are a few issues with Optical flares and CS6 at the moment. We are working to get an update out soon to resolve these issues. We thank you for your patience for the time being. If you contact our support at support@videocopilot.net, there are a few temporary fixes that we may be able to provide you with. They may not resolve the issue completely, but they could help until we get an update out. We apologize for this, and again we thank you for your patience.
Thanks,
Dustin

Re: OPTICAL FLARES CS6 Problem
Found a work around:
Close After Effects.
1.) Remove Presets / Textures from the Optical Flares folder.
2.) Launch After Effects then Optical Flares > Options > File > Preferences > Disable GPU
3.) Close After Effects.
4.) Place the Presets / Textures back in the normal folder.
5.) Now it will open the options menu without crashing.
Now we just need that GPU support.
Cheers,
Adrian

Re: OPTICAL FLARES CS6 Problem
Hey guys,
I'm having this options menu problem as well on CS6.
The options menu will open if I move all of the presets and templates out of the Optical Flares folder, but regardless of my GPU settings in CS6, it always crashes once those folders go back in.
Can anyone assist?

Re: OPTICAL FLARES CS6 Problem
I have been watching threads on this forum regarding Optical Flares and Mac users. I'm anxious to purchase OP to take advantage of the current CYBER2012 discount, and wonder if the recently announced v1.3.3 resolves all problems for Mac users. I using CS6 AE with a 6-core 5,1 MacPro desktop machine, OS 10.6.8, 32 GB RAM and ATI 5870 video card. Can anyone confirm if OP is finally stable for Mac users?
cheers,
Dave

Re: OPTICAL FLARES CS6 Problem
I had this happen to me recently and it was due to an unsupported graphics card.
I Upgraded to a newer quadro card and it works just fine now!

Re: OPTICAL FLARES CS6 Problem
Hello I have a different problem:
- I can access the options, see the background image, and select the lens flare I need but when I press ok in and come back to the classic After Effects interface I just see my lens flare and no the background image on wich I applied the lens flare.
- in others situations when in the option window I show the background image the colors of this one are really differents from the original (and this is not the effect of a Lens Flare).
Thanks
Luca

@cubanboy: You, my friend, are a genius! That totally solved the problem for me as well. No more crashing, everything's working like normal again. You've just made my day.
