Get a high resolution camera? have a lookout for a camcorder with a low lux rating. The lux rating is a measure of how sensitive the camcorder’s eye is to light. A camcorder with a low lux rating needs less light to function effectively.
Also possibly editing the image? im sure theres a way to get that grainy effect out of the video, but you wont get the best results if you dont have a excellent camera.
How many wood can a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck would chuck would?

I have a Cannon XLH1. It's doesn't seem to have grainy footage because it's an awesome camera, but I didn't know if people used special lighting techniques in low light to enhance the shot. I'm not professional but I thought they as in film makers did other things to enhance a low light scene.

If you have full control over the shoot, ie it is a set with actors, time etc and you don't have access to a quality low-lux factor camera, then shoot it with lighting effects and then make it look night/dark in post (I know you never thought I would ever say that did you).
It is a hell of a lot eaiser to make a bright shot darker than it is to make a dark shot brighter. And Andrew has a wonderful tutoral on here that will explain just how to do just that.
What a wonderful man he is :¬)

I agree.. I never see "the pros" shoot a dark or low light scene in dark or low light... always use a little more light than you think you will need, and adjust it in post.
