Mobile App Intros with After effects

Postby Wizastudios on 12/31/2012, 12:02 pm

Hey Video Copilot Members

I had a client recently as me if there is a way to make animated intro for mobile apps. Now I've seen things like this in the pass such as Demon Cam's intro in the demo video.

How is this possible with AFX CS6? What formats are needed? What compressions do I use? How do I keep the final render small enough to run on Mobile apps?

DON'T use After Effects for the final render. Render a lossless file out of After Effects then use the Adobe Media Encoder to do your final compression. This way you can test any number of compression settings without having to rerender your AE comp and you can use multipass compression which AE cannot.

That being said, make your video the type of file format required by whatever mobile platform you're using.
Make your final comp the exact pixel dimensions of your device (or the majority of devices you're after).
Keep the bitrate as low as you can while maintaining the quality you need. What that is is up to you.

Thanks

My question is in relation to your answer. What are the formats saved? What is the best bitrate? Are they different for iOS, Android & Windows?

For example if a client wants an intro for their new mobile app on the iPhone I already know to match those dimensions. I created a 5-10sec animation and ready to render out with a Lossless compression. Now what?

How to I prepare it for the development person to include to the app?

You would have to check the specs for the various operating systems. Which should be in the dev info you get from them.

I'll bet H.264 will play on both major mobile platforms.

I finally get what I'm looking for.

What I'm looking for is information for a Splashvideo for and iOS app. What are the required specs?

Ok

A splash video is what I'm looking for. Any specs for a Splash video for an iOS app would be helpful.
