Christmas Video... almost finished!

Postby DanStevers on 11/19/2009, 8:51 pm

So I've been working on a Christmas video for my church's Christmas service. Let me know what you think so far. The video has about 7 seconds more animation to create so it ends really abruptly. It's missing a lot of sound fx and the ones in there right now might not stay.

*EDIT- New version is posted.

I love the animation!
I'm not sure that some of the fonts you used really worked.
I understand what you were trying to do - but for example "terrible" seemed like a festive font.
Perhaps using the same overall font - bolding and doing some of the animation you do on the font(s) (on top)
or for example terrible turns green or takes on a fruit cake or ugly tie look.

Just some thoughts hopes it helps

See the font just doesn't work for me personally.

Problems
Material Things

The font just doesn't work.

Am I the only one with this view? Just wondering if it's me.
I think the animation is awesome and the base font is easy to read - but the decorative fonts style just doesn't make sense in the context in which they are being used.

Hope this helps - great video by the way.

I think the variation of the font work well. Just standing out from the standard font is enough for them to send their intended message without breaking the mood of the overall animation.

JOB WELL DONE!!

I do see your point about the font choice. This is a first edit so there will be some refinements in the final version and I will probably simplify the choice of fonts in it. Thanks for the feedback.

I actually am for the fonts. I think it gives the added element of interest? If that makes sense.

Amazing job on the video!

Sure your church will love this

Great work. I love the typography and overall style of the piece. Also, great use of sound effects and the timing with the music was excellent.

Incredible animation. This must have taken quite a lot of time to make. Looks like top notch professional work. I am curious to know how you made all the boxes, characters, trees, etc. Was that all done in After effects or was there more programs involved? Illustrator?

Took me two weeks to make this video. And those were all EPS's done in Illustrator and animated in AE. Most of them were stock images.

Cool video, my question is where will it be displayed at?

Because to me it looks like you wherent paying attention to the title safe lines, play ur video on a monitor first to make sure your edges and titles don't get cropped off. You will look very unproffesional if you show it to them and the edges are chopped off.

Other than that good job!

That's not an issue at my church. We adjust our projectors to fit our screens.

If this were going on broadcast television you would have a point, but it's not. It's made for a controlled environment.

I can't give a full critique because the video is skipping for me for some reason (a firefox thing on my computer for some reason - it's not just your video, and it is quite annoying), but from what I can see it looks great. I what you have to say and how you go about saying it.

I think I'd like the fonts to be uniform throughout and like your choice for the main font family. However, I think you manage to pull off the font changes that you use (your changes in fonts didn't rip me out of the experience like some will).

I like what you were doing with the ribbons, but the colors (even though they are traditional) just aren't working for me - not sure why. Perhaps you could change the nativity so it's not the same green. Keep the Baby Jesus as is and maybe change everyone else to a light brown or something.

The animated elements are great and you used them well.

The music choice is wonderful.

Overall, very enjoyable! I'm sure it will be a blessing for your church!

Merry Christmas to them and you!
