Series with lots of effects

Postby fernandomgm on 10/15/2009, 2:45 pm

Please help me improve the effects of my series. Here are the links to the episodes released so far. I think the second one has better effects.

EPISODE 1:

EPISODE 2:

I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks a lot!

so first off, both of them are the same link, lol

anyhow, a little CC couldnt hurt. maybe a small bit better acting, the main thing is, i no it may feel weird but u really really have to get your actors to act with something that isnt there. hard at first but keep telling them to keep at it and the whole shot will turn out better.

I've edited the links. Now you can watch both episodes.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. I'll try to keep that in mind. As for the acting, is hard to expect a lot when the actors are friends who agreed to do it, but I'll try to push them a little harder. Thanks again.

definately agree with zombiekangaroo, really need some colour correction. Your footage is really washed out and your effects are really vibrant so they stand out too much

I really like the vanishing and appearing affect, the smoke looks good, get the CC right and it will all gel together a lot better

That's great to know. Do you think it's possible to a proper CC on Premiere? Because to CC on After Effects you have to generate a lot of heavy files and I'd like to avoid that if possible...

There is a certain charm watching people take off the robes to be dressed in street cloths, though I can't imagine the type your aiming for. The effects are pretty good though CC is needed and I'd recommend manipulating the environment to make it looks like the special effects are a part of and affect the environment they are in.

Thanks a lot for the feedback. But let me ask you this, do you have any suggestion on how I'd manipulate the environment? The onlu thing that came up to me was to burn the ground. What else could I do? I'm very much interested in learning more about this kind of interaction.

I guess you should mix stuff that match like metal or water with electricity, wood and fire (maybe some real fire on set wouldn't hurt), some after fire is very important as the carbonized target (like the burt floor you left after blowing the guy on the second episode) or even smoke.

It's quite simple, actually.

1-Create a White Solid.
2-Pre-compose it.
3-Make a round mask and feather it.
4-Add fractal noise and animate it.
5-Apply vecor blur (about 25 should be enough)
6-Shine or Glow
7-On the original comp change the transfer mode to add or screen

Ihope you manage to get it from this. Otherwise, I believe there's tons of tutorials on youtube.

Thanks.

I followed no tutorials for this effect. :ugeek: This is actually the only effect I use Particle Illusion to do. How? I've made a simple fading out effect in After Effects, and them I've applied the smoke on top of it in PI.

I'm actually trying not to use tutorials to do the effects on this video in order to try to make it look a bit different, but the truth I've watched so many tutorials in my life that it's kinda hard to something really fresh.

Causing the ground to be illuminated by the energy balls would look good. Also some damage to the ground/actor when they get hit.

Hey man. Thanks a lot for the feedback. I'm already trying to create a good effect for the reflexion on the ground. But I've got to ask, what kind of effect I could use to show the damage in the actor? That'd look incredible but I can't thinj of a way to do it.

As for the ground damge, please take a look at the effect I've created on episode 2. Could you tell me if that's what you meant?

ak has a good tut on how to make energy reflections on this site.start there to plant the effects into the scene. as for damage to a character most if that would be better suited to be done in camera not in post

Oh! That's right. I've forgot about that tutorial. As for creating the damage in camera, that's a bit hard for me because of the total lack of budget. But I'll try to figure out cheap ways to that. Thanks a lot for the feedback!

Thanks! I've been trying hard to avoid well known effects. And it's been quite a practice for me indeed! Thansk a lot for replying this post!
