AMD Ryzen

Anyone excited about the new AMD range? seems pretty crazy that their £500 1800x can just about outperform the £1000 6900k

too good to be true?

Yeah, looking forward to seeing the benchmarks. But I imagine we can be pretty sure Intel will lower their prices to match - or at least be generally competitive...(*)

Personally I would love better single threaded performance, though not willing to pay the $2K I would need to get even close to my current multi threaded performance running dual 10c Xeon's, so it's going to be interesting to see if AMD will release something matching the i6950X...

(* I suspect people would accept paying more for an Intel CPU even at the same performance, AMD is without a doubt a weaker brand - at this point in time at least)

yeah i guess maybe a lot of pro's will stick with the stronger brand. the moment the Ryzen was announced I was literally about to purchase a new machine (something we chatted about ages ago, just ended up working on the road a lot so held off buying it.) think i may hold off another month to see how good these chips are

Not sure pros/enthusiasts are a question here, some just prefer intel as a stronger brand - I for one don't give a shit, if Ryzen offers as good performance for way lower cash - and they are, not only the CPUs but the motherboards are 1/2 the price of the LGA2011-3 boards - I would have no issues running a Ryzen.

I think you have that backwards, you need to be a tool to buy a Mac... And I'm the one to talk, using Mac's for 20 years, but in my defense, I dropped them in 2009... ;)

Either way, it's about time Intel got some pressure, now lets hope we'll see both faster CPUs and lower prices from them.
