I still say a "super hero tutorial" DVD (or free tutorials) would be cool. Like how to transform into the human torch, how to make Wolverine's claws come out of your hand, how to transform into the Ghost rider ect......
With all the marvel comic movies coming out it may be worth while idea.

I would love to see how you did the shatter effect for the Bullet trailer... maybe even show if it can be done with the built-in AE shatter plug in. I've tried this, but with little success, and my boss was telling me to get back to work... always a problem ;)

Andrew, tuts are great. Although I really like it when you take the time to REALLY work (I do not mean it as if you dont work on the other tuts xD, I mean, like, more than a week of painstaking experiments xD) on a big tutorial, or a line of em. The effects achieved are absolutely great! What I would really enjoy seeing, and I think others would, would be more compositing. For example, the Bullet DVD. That was the first tutorial I have ever found that actually gave me a good idea of 3d AE interaction. I enjoyed it very much. So, for example, a robot! It would be so amazing to see how a walking robot can be composited to walk on your desk :P
Please please, these are the best AE tuts out there, and I wish there would be some more 3d, compositing, etc. Thanks.

I think a slow-motion knife throw would be really cool. Heres a video which shows how it could look - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2pss3x6bmU. I know that the guy who made it used 3ds Max and After Effects. Thanks ;)

Hey Andrew.
Another good tutorial would be how to make an effect where it looks like theres been an explosion and the wall blows out. You could add smoke, sparks, fire, debris, dust etc. Theres loads of videos on YouTube of it but no one has made a decent tutorial. Thanks again!

This thread has been up for, what, half an hour? lol This is going to get more swamped than the Blog requests...

Anyway, some kind of explosive effect would be cool. Not so much of an incendiary explosion like in one of the training DVDs (forgot which one...), but more like a missile hitting a building. You know--fire, debris, smoke, dust, lighting...

On that note, a Nuclear Explosion is always a cool, sought-after effect. Something from far away (and far up), so you see the flash, then the mushroom cloud, the lingering orange/fiery glow from the cloud illuminating the scene, and the shockwave traveling over the ground (and as a bonus, use 3ds or some tricky shatter effect use to destroy buildings or trees).

The Nuke is naturally a difficult and extensive effect. That one would be best for a DVD tutorial.

I had this in mind too... some kind of impact destruction thing... I tired smashing an asteroid into our cathedral here in Antwerp, but it was too heavy to lift and throw it that hard... so maybe AEfx could help.

TEXT

I've been exploring the VAST possibilities of AE text animation parameters lately and they dig very deep. Is there any way we could get a tutorial on creating text effects within after effects? Maybe create it in conjunction with particular or some other effect to give it more depth?

Hey Andrew,
Well since I heard you have Boujou now, Maybe you can make a Tutorial showing How to get Boujou Tracking Data into After effect and setting it up the correct way. For some reason Boujou and after effects don't work as smoothly as others such as PF track or Synth Eyes. Then again, If you release the Cliff Tutorial I guess it will be in there? Please?

I'm all over that. I got hooked on this site when I was looking for ways to make a little lightsabre duel with my 5 year old. This has now expanded into a mini Star Wars movie involving a dozen cast members, green screens etc... I have just begun production but am already planning next year's movie which will be some kind of hero flick.

I'd like to see a particle tutorial to simulate flames, ice/snow or many of the other hero type effects.

If you know how to use 3ds max then this is one easy job. Model the knife, and match the camera as close as possible to the one used to shoot and then just animate it and then slow it down. Remember to export your 3dsmax file with its alpha. Thats all it is!! and if you're planning to do this, make sure u let go off the knife not like the guy who shot the video of the link u provided here :)

Hey Andrew, how about a tutorial on how to create digital snow storms from wide shots of cities to close-ups of characters. I'd be looking forward to that!

That'd totally an idea that I would love to see! Like sean126 said with all the marvel movies, now seems like a perfect time to make something like that. But thats just a suggestion anything you make always turns out awesome.
It can look like a duck, walk like a duck and quack like a duck but the duck might be in disguise. It could be a giant space mutant trying to take over ducks to make ducks rule the world. It's probably a duck though. So don't stress about it.

Postby fx13 on 08/2/2008, 1:03 am

I would love to see more tutorials on integration of AE with 3DS MAX as well as 3DS MAX alone - things such as modeling of cool stuff, animation...

Hi Andrew! I think it would be great and very interesting for all to see the tutorial on using Trapcode Form. Especially on integration with live footages (like people, cars, etc.).So i hope you'll think about it. Greetings from Ukraine, you're great.)
