Matching Fk and IK controls

Postby Wakeandbbakefilms on 11/18/2009, 4:14 am

Hi all, Im hoping somene can help. Im working on an animation at the moment and the charcater has an fk/ik switch mode on his arms, however ther is not a switch to match ik to fk controls and the arm jumps from fk to ik rather then gradually changing. I want to animate the charcters arm in Fk then when he puts his hand on a table switch to ik to hold it in place. I cant howevr get the fk/ik switch to look smooth. Is there a way I can match the position of the ik to the FK controls. Can I add the attribute to the fk/ik switch. Not having this feature is really annoying me so any riggers out there if you know how to set it up please let me know. Im using maya by the way. I did think or animating a parent constraint between the ik curve and the wrist fk curve but this only alligns the hand, so how can i do this for the whole arm?

Thanks

Hey mate,

I know there is a solution to this, I ran into this problem a year ago and a guy from the studio I was working at found a work around for it. As fate would allow, I cannot remember it for the life of me at the moment as I haven't had to use it since. I'm 90% sure I saw a similar work around here, http://www.bauervision.com/. It may not be exactly what you're looking for, but he may show something that you over looked that might unlock this mystery for you. If I remember the solution we found in a timely fashion I'll be sure to let you know.
