how to mix Videogame/live action footage

Postby swstrider1 on 02/16/2017, 8:15 am

Does anyone have an idea for how to use background scenery from a videogame like Halo, composited with live action greenscreen?
Making the live action footage look more cartoony is the easiest option but I'm wondering if I could use texture mapping or element 3d or something
to rebuild the videogame footage to appear more realistic.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Making the live action look more cartoony would be done via makeup and wardrobe on your actors first and a bit of post-production second.

The other suggestion of taking video game footage and making it more realistic is not going to happen. I mean, you might be able to rip the game and get the models and textures out of it, but that would be fairly tricky to do and then making it look better is going to be very reliant on your skill. And you would need a real 3d app to do it. Element V1 is not going to cut it.

Michael, thanks for the reply. After much experimenting I got decent results from using the cartoon and plastic effects on my keyed actor, which gives a very videogame-like appearance.

I was also able to use many action essentials elements to blend and I'm pretty happy with the results :)

Check out the results I got with AE's Cartoon and Plastic effects, it's pretty close to what I was shooting for :)
