For anyone wondering how to make a Transformer model in 3d

Postby codemonkey123 on 07/1/2009, 3:40 am

Just by using google and 5 mins reading I tracked this guy down.

According to his myspace He is writing a book (may be finished now) on how its done.

Since this subject matter has been the debate both positive and otherwise I thought it might be a good starting point for anyone who wants to get started on the job.

Hope it helps, and more importantly, hope it stems the flow of "how do I make a transformer model" that crop up when a new movie is released. ;)

Now if I can just find a tutorial for "How do I get sound on my previews".... :D

Hope it helps some budding transformer fanboys out.

**If a MOD reads this:
I debated whether to post it in the personal tutorials section, but I opted for here based on traffic between the two sections being so weighted (1440 v 164 at time of posting). If it needs moving please feel free to do so, I will understand ;)

Thanks codemonkey! Yeah it's the right section.
And to everyone who starts to make a transformer now:
please don't make it talk! Talking robots are kind of uncool! Just my opinion. :)

Don`t thank me. Thank the power of GOOGLE & SEARCHING ... oh and the guy making the tutorial... Mikey B

Hopefully this can serve as a prooving ground that google and effort can prevent a much repeated query appearing on the forum.

:D

PS: Long time no hear Fabian. ;-)

(dont get on me for necroing the thread, I can care less)

However! The blog is set to private, so the link is useless T.T
Anyone ever get a chance to see it though? Can you share?

Well aside from perhaps sending him a message using the "send message" button...

Do a forum search as I think it was Mr Todd Harland (excuse the spelling if wrong Todd) posted a very good link to another transformers tute/magazine piece.

I am sure using search "transformers" will show the thread (along with like a hundred more) ;)

i dont think the modeling of it is that hard. I think the animation of robots is harder

i disagree i think its the rigging thats hard, getting all the pieces to slide and move position as it transforms is hard. so long as the rig is good animating will be as easy as any other rig

Anyone have a link to the tutorial that works and is not set to private?

Well, a little more digging found Mike Bailey's list of videos, one of which he references 3dblasphemy.com (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&VideoID=3818252) where I did find this cool ED-209 animation:

Hi,
As everyone was going on about it, I've done my own transformer.

What? What's wrong with that?
