Adobe media encoder insanely long render times for no reason

Postby VorpDAHACKA on 01/20/2016, 9:28 am

Hey there

I am trying to render out a 14 minute edit that I put together in After Effects. I haven't added any effects. Its just a simple edit of 7 RAW recording files and 1 audio file.

However, once I hit the start button on media encoder it say it will need 11-12 hours for a 14 minute file?!?! This is ridiculous. I tried the same file from the After Effects render queue an it only need like 50 minutes.

Render settings:
MP4 with h.264 codec (In After Effects I had to use .MOV with h.264)
1920x1080 at 60fps
AAC 128kbps stereo audio at 44.1khz
2Mbps bitrate. Level 4.2
Render at maximum depth and render at maximum quality are both turned OFF.

Rendering on a 3.2Ghz Intel Quad-Core, GTX 560 and 12gigs of ram.

Does anyone know what might be causing this behavior?
Thank you for any help in advance :)

Media Encoder is usually quicker as it uses the Mercury Rendering engine out of Premiere Pro - when applicable, at least.

But just generally, from what you said, there's just not enough info to be able to say anything conclusive - or even speculate, really - you need to start experimenting, switching layers on and off, effects on and off, do test renders and compare, see what difference it makes, until you find the culprit.
