Can you import 4K into Premier Pro 5.5

Postby Ken1858 on 04/23/2015, 9:04 am

I ask because I don't know but am planning on getting the GoPro5 black in November when it comes out. The GoPro5 may even have 8k ability. I can now see when creating a new project there are options in the RED R3D presets folder. So does that accept 4K or 8K files from a GoPro? At best I might go with Premier Pro 6.5 someday since it's the last software that lasts forever. There's no way I could afford the monthly Premier Pro CC program.

Here is a link I found when I googled "Editing gopro 4k footage in Premier CS6":

http://www.easefab.com/gopro-workflow/g ... miere.html

Keep in mind you are going to been a pretty powerful computer to edit 4k footage.

That's terrible advice. You CERTAINLY don't want to reencode into MORE compressed formats for post work. And if you want to edit 4K WHY WOULD YOU DOWNSCALE IT?!?! If you must convert, convert to a proper production codec such as QuickTime with the Photo-JPEG codec or QuickTime with the PNG codec.

Granted, Premiere Pro CS6, CC 7 can handle (usually) 4K files without much problem, but it is extremely hardware intensive. Thankfully you probably don't have to buy a new computer... but you do need to convert 4K video to Premiere Pro using MPEG-2 (1080p) as primary delivery format. The following article shows how to edit 4K footage with Premiere Pro without bogging down your computer. The process is surprisingly easy.
