Destruction Experiment!

What is this thing! I’ve basically combined a bunch of stuff into one experiment!

I might have been inspired by the amazing planet explosions from The Force Awakens but wanted to see if I could get a cool version inside Element 3D.

Few Notes on this experiment;

I added smoke elements, shockwaves using CC Sphere, and even used the Saber plug-in to give the beam a nice energy feel!

For the disintegration, I used the multi-object system of Element 3D with a pre-fractured sphere and animated with the animation engine so it would break apart over time.

I even animated an After Effects light to match the death beam to fake reactive lighting.

The Sci-fi Weapon Tutorial has some really cool tips for turning radial shockwaves into other shapes.

I'm Sorry Shape Layers! I love you!
I must confess… I was never a big fan of shape layers…  we just didn’t get along.  I was used to using masks but suddenly (around AE CS3) the same mask tool began creating Red vector shapes. At first, they seemed cool enough but after accidentally adding shape layers to my comps, instead of masks, I lashed […]

You continue to amaze Mr. Kramer.
Have you ever considered taking your plugins (at least the 2d ones that do not require a 3d space) and re-releasing them as OFX plugins? That would open up many more platforms, and attract many people outside of Adobe to Videocopilot.

why wouldn't Kramer pass the torch to someone else, he is too busy to create content for us. but he could still run the website and all. wouldn't it be awesome if someone else was here to update with new tutorials once in a while?

Again, the lighting and colors in this shot is amazing. Request Number 2 for a quick tip video how to work with AE lights and whatever else you use to achieve the realistic look for this, the gears and even the FX console "product shot" with Element 3D.

I can play with the lights and get what I want, but am never sure what I did to repeat it or feel I am getting a handle on it. This would be super helpful.

Yeah, what Spartacus said.

In a nutshell, AK's to busy to do this full-time now, I'm grateful for any input and when he can, don't put pressure on him, its quality not quantity - the mans a legend.

Hi everyone,

If VC was to suddenly close down and we lost all the existing tutorials then that would be a real loss to many of us. Lets make the most of what we have got (and that’s a lot).
So, we don’t have many tutorials now, that’s OK. There is still a wealth of free knowledge from this site that we all still benefit from. Times change and things move on but the fundamental message of learning AE is still strong from the VC team. I love this site and hope that it will continue. All the best VC :-)

You can find torrents of all the tutorials and the project files to go with them, so I doubt if the site was to close down, they would ever be lost.

Hey vcp!
I have been goofing around anamorphics lately and noticed that Element 3D does not work with camera settings closely... anytime I change camera iris aspect ratio element 3D does nothing.. so I was just wondering if you could somehow make it work or add a little slider to depth of field popup menu in render settings? Thanks anyway!

And it was created on 1.6 v of Element 3D years ago.

So experiment in your sofware and make it easy to produce good lightning in E3D inside Aftereffect ; since I am seeing most of the people cannot figure it out how Andrew making so live example looks so real in graphics.

Yeah this all is nice but i did not find a solution how is that possible that for you the peaces are going in one way !!? If all the setting showing X,Y,Z which means two way for all the axis so how the are you did it one way ? Up only which means for you there is a setup in Element in multi object or somewhere else that makes your spheare model blowing up in one way UP 😭😭😭😭
Really i don't understand how did you do that
I just keep trying to find a solution for that but even if i am going through all the settings one by one i can't find it 😭😭😭😭 So please tell me how did you do that because i really want to know tht which part that i missed

I think that is the Animation Engine, it's probably not usually used in our work. Like "World position", if I didn't see the movie "super landing", I would never know that it is exist!

use the ball fracture, the models that came with e3d choose 2 instances group 1 and 2, then enable multi object and place one of the balls off the screen and animate group 1 to group 2

New version always has lots of bug, they are not easy to work together. I think CS6 is the best version I used, I use CC2015 now and I don't like that version because there are lots of problem inside of software.

For all of you asking for a tutorial, it's this:

Saber plugin (or the "beam" effect would work) with fractal noise for the flicker on the sides
Element3D with a prefractured ball (fracturing can be done in a 3d program like C4D and then imported into E3D, google fracturing an object in C4D)

Go into E3D multi-object settings and play with the settings in there until you get what you want

Also, set up a light or two. I noticed a light on the E3D object where the beam was coming down, to light up the surrounding area on the ball.

Why not have the planet/ball explode outwards instead of upwards? Upwards is sort of strange. Looks good though.
