Atmospheric Re-Entry!

Here is a preview of an animation i’m working on. Playing around with Element 3D and Saber to create the fiery streaks!

This past week has been super productive, finishing VFX for Intercept, doing daily renders and preparing for another DMALA meeting in Los Angeles on October 18th. Going to be a blast!

I'm Sorry Shape Layers! I love you!
I must confess… I was never a big fan of shape layers…  we just didn’t get along.  I was used to using masks but suddenly (around AE CS3) the same mask tool began creating Red vector shapes. At first, they seemed cool enough but after accidentally adding shape layers to my comps, instead of masks, I lashed […]

What is this thing! I’ve basically combined a bunch of stuff into one experiment! I might have been inspired by the amazing planet explosions from The Force Awakens but wanted to see if I could get a cool version inside Element 3D. Hi Andrew! Really cool idea, and i hope it works out! I was wondering though, is it possible to combine the deform plugin with something from the Michael Bay Transformer movies? like the distortion that occurs when the title of the movies form. Here is a link to an example. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97t4O8_NDlc

Because camera is attached to object so the planet will be blurred because of object shake.

Question. Thought behind composition. The device is moving but the planet is stationary. Why is the planet blurred? Gives the impression that the planet is running from the device. Just asking.

The camera is following the device, producing motion blur for the, relatively speaking, stationary planet, and there is depth of field.

Looks cool... very futuristic... what is it??? I don't need it... I need a 3D animated, by wind flying or scrolling newspaper or a faling, burning cigarette, a decreasing coffeecup... what about flying objects like birds, butterflies, leaves, dandelion, stones, broken glass, chairs, bottles, tins, glasses, cards..., when there is a possibility to use element 3D with everyday objects I order it with all packs asap!

Hey Andrew, would you say that having a better video card gives you a better render quality? I notice that your renders have an awesome color depth and it seem you use a little bit of RGB splitting in the images you recently updated. If you don't already have one could you break down how to produce the best image? Always lived your work and I thank you for staying true to your craft and helping us all get the courage to achieve the impossible. Appreciate you!

This is what we have come to, teasing with renders instead of tutorials,no more awesome tutorials!? the man is getting to big for his customers.
    John
If you actually read his blog, Andrew has been working tirelessly on an upcoming series of tutorials, in between his busy work and home lives. The daily renders serve to inspire and interact with the community, and encourage designers to push the envelope of what may be accomplished using the software. "The man is getting to big for his customers." - really?! Last I checked the tech support for all his products is still fully functional. The tutorials are done out of goodwill and altruism, we should be grateful for all that he has done for the community, rather than bitching because his career is going incredibly well - most deservedly - and has less time to churn out tutorials than he used to.
    LWAddict
Yes indeed, this is what we have come to...
Complaining about the speed in which we are GIVEN things.
The very fact that ALL the tutorials are up, and there are a plethora of them, for free, is a testament to how this guy has helped the community and yet "This is what we have come to".
You realize that you could pay money for courses and books and videos while you wait right?

Instead of complaining, you should try using Element by yourself. Waiting for a tutorial is usless, exploring this plug in and pusing it to its limits, that's how you learn. Andrew's tuts are amazing, but they should be for you an extra, not some kind of bible !

Just for fun, here are some of my renders using E3D ^^

Andrew Kramer and VCP - are the number 1 inspiration 'world-wide' to the motion graphics industry.
Nearly EVERY top 10, 5, 20 list...whatever, they all put 'Element 3D' at the top of the AE plugins list.

The very fact that this man puts the time in between working on Hollywood movies is mind-blowing, and not to mention he's a big young family to take care of - he is my inspiration. and to 99% of the traffic that comes through VCP, you make it I'll buy it Andrew, and I aint loaded with cash, I can tell you!

I visit this site, twice a day, I'd say - in between busy schedules, eager and excited that Andrew and crew may have post or announced something - in short Element 3D has revolutionised After Effects, I have C4D, but use it less and less - the possibilities with E3D and After Effects and the speed of it all is making C4D less and less inviting with each passing day.

Responding to andrew , i partially agree with you. This plug in is really unexpensive but you can also have things for free. If you are a student, for example , you can get autodesk programs totally free. Maya for example ...this untill you don't make anything commercial. I love your plug in but i own a legal copy of maya totally free and this is why, actually, i haven't bought your plug in. vice versa i would have bought it cause it would have been the most unexpensive way to make fake 3d. It's normal u support it ;)

I love the tutorials and marvel at the use of 3d and non 3d tuts to pass on the tips and tricks of movie making cgi, I think for me the quality of tut is why I love popping by and see how Andrew puts stuff together.

My fav tut is the city destruction tut which I never tire of watching, when I also see Sam in a tut I know it is going to be extra special.

I do really like all of these renders, but I hope future tutorials don't all rely entirely on having Element 3D V2, not everybody can buy it. I miss the old AE tuts that just used AE pluggins.
Actually the next tutorial is 100% After Effects! I promise to keep a good balance! These renders are fun experiments and creative challenges for myself.

But here's the thing ... check out the stuff I've been able to create over the past few weeks! It's exciting for me to see what you can do all inside of After Effects. Maybe I'm biased here since we make the plug-in but Element 3D is one of the most inexpensive pathways to 3D. At a certain point when you use After Effects to fake 3D all the time, it doesn't really prepare you for future 3D design skills which have become more important over the passed few years.

With Element 3D, the techniques and the 3D knowledge will translate to other 3D programs like Cinema 4D as well so that you can grow as a designer.

I can use CC Sphere to make a planet... or I can really go all out with Element 3D and hopefully make it movie quality. As an artist I've tried to focus on using Element 3D so that people can see what is possible within After Effects and without spending a few grand on a dedicated 3D program.

Originally the ideas behind Element 3D was specifically for this reason, a place between After Effects and a dedicated 3D program that would not cost too much but focus on many of the common needs of 3D, like text and adding some 3D objects into a scene. I know that if I do a Cinema 4D tutorial or a 3Ds Max tutorial, I'm leaving a lot of people out of the game. For some people it's hard to justify buying Cinema 4D or Max just to do 3D logos etc.

Anyways, didn't mean to write so much! But I have some really cool tutorial planned with only AE and but sometimes, to make those bigger movie VFX, we need a little 3D and I believe Element 3D offers big bang for your buck that will let more people participate in the fun!

    Hi Andrew!
I am a paying customer and adore (like everyone else) you/your/the teams work with Element 3D. I love to see more tutorials with Element 3D.
The pictures on the blog is like Heaven without keys. I can see what I can do, but I cant do it. (I need to suck less). But you can show us Andrew!
I like to see whats behind the " 2D solid". The answer is 3D with Element in the front line!
You don't need to explain yourself, Andrew. If anyone has issues with your way of doing tutorials or present your products, that's their problem. Element 3D is your product, and you should do with it and IN YOUR WEBSITE

People is used to ask what they want without doing anything in Exchange. VideoCopilot.net is the only website with serious VFX tutorials in all over the Internet, and still there are people who doesn't appreciate it. F...k them.

There are free options like Blender, which is quite a 3D program. Also as Alberto mentioned more recently in this thread, if you are a student and have an .edu email address, you can use 3D Studio Max and/or Maya for free. I believe the license is for three years, but that may have changed.

Thanks AK & Team VCP for everything!
