Hot new tutorial on the way!

I found some time to play in After Effects this weekend and here is another experiment that doesn’t use any 3rd party plug-ins.

Although I will say that using our heat distortion plug-in would have been easier to create the heat waves. In fact, I was thinking about finally making this plug-in available for sale individually instead of inside the bundle, anyone else interested in that idea?

    April 21st, 2014 @ 12:01 pm
Please keep the plug-in at a reasonable price. Like $15, unless you pack it with other extras.
    April 21st, 2014 @ 11:09 am
I think it will be 24.95. That is 25% of the of the bundled price for Flight Kit which makes it fair to previous customers. Plus it is a fun plug-in. The Flight Kit is still a great value because you get sound FX, explosion stock footage and environment maps...

$25 is great. Doing heat distortion is a pain. Totally worth that money.

Yeah, getting the heat distorsion plug-in individually would be great. But is there a Nuke version coming ?
April 21st, 2014 @ 12:16 am
i am a really big fan of you and your work to be honest you are called as the father of after effects.i just wanted to ask u that in future will it be possible to use custom rigged models in element because it would have been great.and ofcourse heat distortion plugin can be tweaked a bit more and can polished to be made availabe individually.

Definetely you should make the Heat Distortion Plug-in available individually, that would be awesome!!!! By this I don't mean for free. Really cool this new effect, I think this is what you meant with Custom Particles Systems when you talked about it in the Star Trek into Darkness Demo.

Yes, this would be a nice idea, but I think it would be unfair for the people who bought this plug-in in the Flight Kit Pack ...
    JMS
    April 21st, 2014 @ 8:46 am
    How is this unfair??
    DecodaX
    April 22nd, 2014 @ 8:57 am
Not unfair, but unfortunate.. as not too long ago I bought the Flight Kit Pack just for the plug-in, only to hear a week later, the plug-in may be available stand alone.
    April 22nd, 2014 @ 9:26 am
It will cost 24.95, if you already have it then, you don't need to buy it. Now customers will have more options to buy.
    JMS
    April 27th, 2014 @ 8:01 am
We really need to stop complaining about these petty little " I could have saved xx had I waited 3 more weeks etc. Everything VCP offers is ridiculously underpriced to begin with, and the quality of the products is second to none. They have given us countless freebies over the years, not to mention all the training. FREE!! We need to support this site with our $$ so they can keep delivering these great products, and if that support comes in the form of some of us buying the flight kit even though we just needed the heat disto plug-in, feel good that your extra dollars are going to the right place (let's not forget you are getting a lot for your money in the flight kit, whether or not you had a need for it at the time). I would gladly pay extra or give monthly donations so we can see things like Element V2 and helicopter packs sooner (hint hint). Even though the Heat Distortion plug-in is now available separately, I think everyone who needs it should still buy the Flight-Kit just to show some support.

The coronary luminescence is similar, but on the surface I would add fractal nois (type: dynamic) and trapcode(shine). With close attention I watch your works, at you I adopted a lot of things, thanks Andrey!
April 21st, 2014 @ 6:56 am
Why didn't you release it as stand alone in the first place?

I've been trying to recreate those solar flares/sun/stars since the Star Trek Into Darkness behind the scenes video you dropped a while ago...looking forward to see if I was anywhere close to how you recreated especially using TurbulenceFD (since I dont have Krakatoa in 3DS Max) to recreate the flame sprite. Thanks for looking out for us Andrew and happy easter!

Hey Andrew. You know how you're always encouraging experimentation and poking around? Here's a suggestion: Post a teaser like the one you just did and then ask, "How would you do this in AE?" Make it a mini contest to see who can get a similar result before a tutorial.
    Jason W
    April 21st, 2014 @ 9:51 pm
Pickle!! Finally! That's what I'm talking about! Let's be encouraged to use what we already know to push the envelope and not just step by step duplicate a tutorial and call it a demo reel. GREAT SUGGESTION.

AK, I think that it's a great idea to offer the heat distortion plugin separately. Seems there are tons of applications apart from jet engine FX.
Jim
April 21st, 2014 @ 11:17 am
YES. The Heat Distortion plugin as a separate entity would be a benefit to everyone. I currently use either Monsters "Heat Waves" plugin or use Trapcode's MIR as a displacement map. While TP's Mir requires setup to get right, Monsters Heatwave is easy, but not very realistic. Having another option that is customizable and realistic is always a plus!
April 21st, 2014 @ 11:22 am
I can't wait to see how you pulled this awesome flaming ball/sun off without any third party plug ins, I bought the jet strike pack including the heat distortion plugin, it's awesome...

Cannot wait to see this tutorial. I've been looking for something exactly like this recently, and have tried to experiment, but haven't come up with anything that looks how I would like it to. Also, I would definitely buy the heat distortion plug-in if it was made available separately.

i found that using planes and the scatter in 3ds (for the coronas), that this can be made into a element model with probably a bit less time.
just need a few randomized smoke elements
April 21st, 2014 @ 1:30 pm
Fractal Noise > Dynamic (Inverted), CC Sphere, Polar Coordinates, Turbulent Displacement, Stylized Glow (multiple times). Am I close?

Hmm, don't know if this has been suggested before, but imagine if Mr. Andrew Kramer gave occasional challenges: Recreate the clip he shows us, and see who can figure out how it was done. This would be a perfect example.

I already have the plug-in and the results have been great! Been working on a similar effect a "solar" type effect using the heat distortion plugin. Would love to see a tutorial how to get the most out of it similar to this solar video.

After looking at the MotionPulse promo vid, I'm assuming (and we all know what that makes me) that you used similar techniques for that as well.

hye andrew sir i have question ,,

Why Element 3d is fast render models insted of 3dds or c4d ?

what is diffrence in renderer ?

It uses the GPU, not the CPU, so it's more limited but it's fast.

Andrew,
As a producer that does contract work for a variety of clients, I would recommend offering the plug-in as a stand alone. If a project arose where I needed to use the heat distortion plug-in but had to justify the purchase, it's easier to pitch a client on paying for a single plug-in versus an airplane model pack that has nothing to do with their particular project. Just my two cents.

How do you determine whether you are going to use Vimeo or YouTube? I'm not seeing anything but a random pattern. Just wondering.

"I was thinking about finally making this plug-in available for sale individually instead of inside the bundle, anyone else interested in that idea?"

YES! I use Terragen a lot, and do a lot of environment work in general. The plugin would be useful to me on its own. I can think of a number of desert scenes that I have, that I would like to easily add heat waves to.

By the way, that sun is very nice! I would put that tut to use very quickly.

    April 22nd, 2014 @ 4:59 pm
    P.S.
For the OP tut. It would be GREAT, if you also talked about how to apply the effect to a plane or otherwise flat(ish) surface in addition to the spherical form.

    Cheers.
