Grid Experiment

I’ve been finding some extra time to dig deeper into some built-in After Effects plug-ins to create some interesting and unique effects. Here is my new experiment using a very interesting combination of effects (as always) to build a networked title or logo.

We are really making a big effort to create new projects to keep you inspired and thinking in new ways!

I’ll be recording the tutorial this week so expect it soon and be ready for a few unexpected surprises!

February 17th, 2014 @ 9:53 am
You need to re-create the title from Hackers using this setup. Only one of the classically awesome bad 90's movies! And Angelina Jolie's first movie (fun fact she was married to that main character before Billy Bob and Brad Pitt).

Andrew your the Nils Amstrong of Visual effects ! Would you do me a favour and tell me how much the upgrade from Element V1.6 to Element V2 will cost ? Since I´m 17 and I always have to save my money in order to buy Element stuff ( actually my favourite thing to spend money on ) ..
best regards from germany
    February 17th, 2014 @ 1:52 pm
My guess is that it will be around 50$. The most it can be is 100$, because that is close to the price of the plug-in itself. Andrew did say that there will be E3D V2 news coming soon.
    February 17th, 2014 @ 9:20 pm

Well Andrew,
Your time that you put into everything (for us) is in itself inspiring! I even find myself going back to some of the older tutorials sometimes and saying to myself "BADASS" ! Its always good to think out of the box and be creative. Thank you for all of your hard work and infinite wisdom.....your wife as well for letting you spend a little time away from the family to share your craft and knowledge with everyone.

February 17th, 2014 @ 11:05 am
You was my first teacher in this field.

Now I am at that stage where if you show us the sample of the work, I can figure out most of its 'making' OR I always try to achieve that result on my own before going through the tutorial, it helps me a lot. :D

But most of the time you come up with something new!

all hail the maestro! :D

February 17th, 2014 @ 1:49 pm
I'd love to see the final animation. My favorite is the second image. That color scheme is pure genius...
Perhaps you can add some glitch from a top secret plug-in we haven't heard about for some time?
Keep up the good work!
February 17th, 2014 @ 1:49 pm
Really good timing, I have a project currently that could benefit from this type of look. Hope the tutorial follows soon? Thanks for all that you do!!
February 17th, 2014 @ 1:51 pm
Looking forward to this tutorial! Looks awesome.
February 17th, 2014 @ 1:57 pm

February 17th, 2014 @ 2:03 pm
Combination of differing grid sizes + animated grid widths, fractal noise, particles + lens blur, alpha masks and glows.... And by the look of it, a subtle 'mosaic' plug-in effect.. not often anyone breaks that bad boy out!
February 17th, 2014 @ 2:06 pm
Whoa. This. This, this is one of the things I ALWAYS WANTED TO DO IN MOTION GRAPHIC BUT DID NOT KNOW HOW. :D I, no, we. We cannot thank you enough! This is awesome!

February 17th, 2014 @ 11:03 pm
Andrew, can you please add the font to the project file?
February 18th, 2014 @ 12:22 am
Let me guess..

Optical Flares for the "dirty camera" efx
Grid and pixelate
but i miss something for the line-stuff.. Can't be "particular" because isn't built-in.. so.. argh!
    February 18th, 2014 @ 12:24 am
And there is some voronoi-cells efx, so I miss this, also.
Joseph Provencial
February 18th, 2014 @ 12:25 am
I LOVE IT!!!! Can't wait for your tutorial on this one.
February 18th, 2014 @ 12:35 am
Cant´t you people say something else that AWESOME etc. It´s getting really boring to read these comments because of it´s just the same all the time. Andrew Kramer makes fantastic effort doing these tutorials so maybe instead of writing "Amazing, Wow, Love it..." and other obvious things maybe you should also think something what would lead to a AE related conversation ;)
February 18th, 2014 @ 12:52 am
Man you just keep posting these days :-) You're on fire! Good to see good old videocopilot back in action ;-) any news on a new pack for element or element 2 news????
February 18th, 2014 @ 1:16 am

February 18th, 2014 @ 1:48 am
Look assum! Definitely something I can use. Looking forward to the magic.
February 18th, 2014 @ 2:12 am

I was trying to achieve your effect before you post your tutorial.
I may have found the trick with Advanced Lightning !?
February 18th, 2014 @ 5:25 am
It looks amazing AK. Still can't get over that statement you made in simple car rig tutorial about an advanced car rig tut.
February 18th, 2014 @ 8:51 am
You did it again! A M A Z I N G! Can't wait for the tutorial! Thanks Andrew, you are so inspiring and I like your spirit of sharing your experience with us. And thanks for Element 3D, too - most interesting plugin ever for AE. Thanks so much and greetings from Germany.
February 18th, 2014 @ 9:29 am
I always wondered which would be the easiest and best way to achieve that look. Cant wait for the tut!

How can I get to work with you Andrew? (my name in English is also Andrew, if it matters) :D
February 23rd, 2014 @ 4:16 pm
Looks great,

Gonna take a solid guess.

Precomp with grid effect and a fractal noise for the breaking up if the grid.

Then using the advanced lightning effect on the precomp and using the alpha controls.

Just an educated guess

Hey VC!!
I know this is off topic but i am throughly enjoying my Jetstrike. I was hoping you could do a short tut on jet exhaust flames. I see some great examples on what you've done on the promo vidoes. If you have previously covered this topic please point me in the right direction with my apologies.

"I’ll be recording the tutorial this week so expect it soon and be ready for a few unexpected surprises!"

And that was said 2 weeks ago... it never took me longer than 2 weeks to record a tutorial or timelapse, maybe the kramer is ill?
Can't wait for this tutorial though it's going to be awesomesauce! :D
March 4th, 2014 @ 2:22 pm

It's a bummer when Andrew can't follow up his promises of future tutorials after teasing us with blogs much like this one. "It's been a month since he "recorded the tutorial" for this one. I know there's a bit of post that goes into a tutorial, but a month?

I understand Andrew is a busy guy and all but when your focus shifts to other projects, maybe its time for some extra help to keep the tutorials and or the business moving forward.

I love video copilot, keep up the good work.
