Presenting at DMALA Again & and a Sonic Boom!

I’ll be presenting again at DMALA in Los Angeles on Monday, October 28. Starts 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM (PDT). I know there will be food and prizes like some great Video Copilot products! I’m looking forward to it and I hope guys and gals can come out!

Register Now, Limited Space available & the tickets go fast!

I also made this Sonic Boom video using our new product JetStrike based on some live action footage of super-sonic jets! There may be some debate about authenticity of my composite but I call this artistic expression, after all this is Visual Effects! Real, Hyper Real & sometimes just lazy!

Oh how I wish I could be there, after all it is my birthday. Unfortunately funds and distance keep me from it. Find a reason to visit Atlanta some time Andrew!! I would be thrilled to meet you!
October 16th, 2013 @ 12:24 pm
I'm sick of you being lazy with your projects. Bush-league. Here's an idea, maybe you can actually leave California and tour. After all, isn't that how bands make money? I'd buy a ticket for the Kramer Tour 13'. Only one though, I'm not sure my date would get it. "Are you ready to rock Cleveland? (crowd noise) Ok, settle down and shut your mouths for this great, detailed, software based tutorial." (2000 laptops flip open) Not exactly a stage diving venue.
October 16th, 2013 @ 12:40 pm
Tickets purchased, see you there!

October 16th, 2013 @ 8:27 pm
Man, sometimes I wish I lived in america! For film stuff you got the best shows and events! The sonic boom is soooo cool! When I bought jetstrike I had no idea where to start. I was just playing with the rig controls. I was just waiting for a tutorial how to make this pack so cool as in the teaser. And what to do with al those files in the sky maps folder?
Then I thought what the heck I'll try messing around. First test was a disaster in color and animation!. But ok I'll upload it because it's so awesome that this can be done in AE!
The testfilm got so many dislikes that I removed it from youtube. So even test films have to be good? Was it that bad? Them I tried again but this time I took a little bit more time. Ok still not perfect but it's a test. And for a test I'm pretty happy with the result :-D
So Thnx for not uploading a jetstrike tutorial yet and forcing me to figure it out myself. I guess that's the way you learn the fastest. First trie and if it doesn't work, grab the manual.
Any way.........the clue is that I can't go to America to visit all those cool shows, events or seminars. But thnx to the modern times, internet and videocopilot I'm able to learn right here at home with a cup of coffee and my kids around me. So thnx for being a world wide teacher at a world wide school. And I hope you'll continue you're work forever!

And I don't care what people say but I'm happy with the results!
    Austin Davis
    October 16th, 2013 @ 10:08 pm
Well done, I have to say that was pretty cool! We all have to start somewhere, I have a few dislikes on my "test" video as well but I'm happy with how it turned out.

here's the link to the video, the animation and color needs tweaking but I'm happy for it being my first test.
    October 16th, 2013 @ 10:24 pm
your vid also looks cool! Some people just don't get the title "Test" :-)
At least we're trying to make something, haha.
    October 17th, 2013 @ 6:39 am
Exactly. You get so much more of a sense of accomplishment when you work out a problem yourself. Anyone can follow step by step instructions. Video looks great btw..if I was to add a bit of constructive criticism, I would work on integrating the explosion a bit more into the bg plate mainly right when the impact happens (daytime explosions take more work than nighttime ones). Also when the explosion happens, the camera plane just stops. That wouldn't happen in the real world. Think about how you would film that sequence for real if you were shooting it from another plane. And as far as integration, grab a hollywood blockbuster action film dvd and frame by frame some of their daytime explosions. Overall though looks really good!
    October 17th, 2013 @ 3:01 pm
Wow! Looks really good to me.
Element 4D
October 16th, 2013 @ 11:37 pm
OK...wait a minute! Your sonic boom effect made me jealous! You know why? Because I already made a tutorial on how to achieve a sonic boom effect in after effects with on of the footage from your "Magic Stock Footage" package...Unfortunately, it didn't get famous at all ;/

In case any one is interested, here is the tutorial:

And here is the preview of the effect:

Hope someone will see it after posting this in VC. ^_^

October 17th, 2013 @ 12:30 am
Hey Andrew, I live close to LA and I'll be at the event on the 28th. Are you speaking before or after Dennis from Adobe?

Also, can I interview you afterwards about Element 3D? Because you're getting kind of famous hanging out with that JJ Abrams guy and, you see, I'm one of the little people... and you know what they say about the little people when your famous... I'll even bring a lav and shoot your talk if you don't already have that covered. :D

My fingers are actually crossed that you will respond to this.

Your rendition is good. The only mistake is that the cloud is only present for a short amount of time and the boom is heard see the cloud before your hear it. Awesome rendition though

Oh.. When you are coming to India..??
October 17th, 2013 @ 9:46 am
I've officially stopped watching videos from the comments section..

Guys, if you're going to post videos of your 'amazing' projects, please make sure that they are at least 'as good' as the video that everyone on the site has JUST watched. Otherwise it's like trying to follow a Beatles track with last nights karaoke recording!

And... I realise that each time I 'flame' on here, angry people go to my channel (shameless plug - click my name) and start randomly disliking my stuff, but that's cool, I know good stuff when I see it. And so do you! ;)

Kevann Boussac
October 18th, 2013 @ 12:27 pm
I think we really need a tutorial about the map... And another from the jetstrike demo, the last jet coming between the clouds really slowly and the jet go really fast inside the clouds

October 18th, 2013 @ 11:41 pm

Wonderful approach... I really love your sense of colours and the slow pace this historical/political movie has. I want to see more of it :-)

Looks fantastic to me. I looked it up on youtube for some actual supersonic flight video and I'd say this (Andrew's version) is pretty realistic, certainly will suffice for any movie.

October 21st, 2013 @ 11:34 am

Oh you just wait mister. I'm sure you'll be presently surprised of what Andrew and the team have been working for the sonic boom effect. I mean its not like he'd make you wait this long and not give you some cool animated shockwaves to play with- oops I said too much already.
