Spinning Out of Control!

Here is another weekend experiment using various radial effects inside of After Effects. It’s actually a combination of many simple techniques with masks but I playing with it, I think there are some interesting tips that I encountered that just might require a short tutorial.  It’s like the green Iron Man!

Indeed, very Pacific Rim -esque. Nice job, Andrew!
September 3rd, 2013 @ 1:04 am

Tutorial for that would be pretty awesome! Nice work!
September 3rd, 2013 @ 1:40 am
Your stuff always looks so nice. How do you get it to glow so nice? I think something that concentrates on this glow styled look would be very popular.

September 3rd, 2013 @ 2:52 am
Nice!! Where do you get your sounds effects? Do you have someone at VC that creates them? If so, that in itself would be a nice tutorial.
    September 3rd, 2013 @ 1:24 pm
You may want to check out the Twisted Tools Transform library. :)
    Willmer Wonsang
    September 3rd, 2013 @ 4:52 pm
This was a crazy cool Transformer overload.
    September 4th, 2013 @ 2:38 am
I also have been asking for that in awhile now. I really like to hear from Andrew how he create the sounds for his clips, and put them together for the final result!

You might wanna check out who Video CoPilot is and not only learn AE trics but also the team who is responsible for all these fantastic plugins stock footage etc.

See the Contact page and meet Bryan Burkhardt. He's the music producer in the VC Team and i'll bet he has got something to do with the sounds and music you hear over here......

wow i look like iron man Weapon and his hud.
please make it soon. i can't wait
September 3rd, 2013 @ 6:28 am
I think the only thing that makes this more film vfx than motion design is the lighting effects. Pretty interesting.
September 3rd, 2013 @ 7:05 am
This effect would be nice for some robot eyes.
September 3rd, 2013 @ 7:08 am
The sound is what makes this. I think you're due for a tutorial on how your record/create SFX through how you work it into a project like this?
September 3rd, 2013 @ 7:34 am
Danm give us a Tutorial Andrew please, we love u!
September 3rd, 2013 @ 7:45 am

September 3rd, 2013 @ 8:41 am
Very cool effects Andrew!
September 3rd, 2013 @ 8:44 am
Hi Andrew,

Looks great. This sort of spin effect could definitely come in handy to add some easy production value to a project. I like the sound effects you used as well.
September 3rd, 2013 @ 9:11 am
Nicely done Andrew. Do you have someone on the team who does most of your sound design, or is that you typically handle? The Element 3D Aperture demo had some great sound as well.
    Vinnie K.
    September 7th, 2013 @ 1:46 pm
Wouldnt it be logical if you have such questions that you just have one go and look around on the website for some information other then just tutorials??? Just dropping questions without clicking 2 or 3 pages seems so unappreciative....
This is what i wrote earlier to someone with the same question.... Which you probably also did not read....

September 3rd, 2013 @ 9:11 am

September 3rd, 2013 @ 9:29 am
This primarily uses the Radial Fast Blur effect. I'm having fun creating this!
    Martin Flores Jr.
    September 3rd, 2013 @ 12:16 pm
is that it? are you using images? to recreate those textures?
    September 3rd, 2013 @ 12:47 pm
A lot of the textures I think are actually formed from masks. Certainly you could use images, but you can create something cool without it
September 3rd, 2013 @ 10:25 am
amazing! tutorial please!
Anuj Nair

hi andrew, i have a question for you on the eye replacement. When i did all the motion tracking, edit target, apply, linked to null object and did the colored adjustment, when i did the first few marks masked it was smaller size but when the clip zoomed in and the eye got biger then i adjust the masking size to be bigger then the first few masking size does get bigger. Is the any setting that i need to know?
    Vinnie K

Well, it looks amazing. I didn't know about it, but from now on it's an options. Maybe in future projects it would help for maps we must have.

In works like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5wancJAb70 we have lots os maps, but for more specific ones we may not.

Thanks for the tip. I love it.

entirely done with ELEMENT!
hope you like it!
    September 21st, 2013 @ 4:51 am
That was simply amazing and very well informative. Very nice T.V. quality production style. Keep up the good work. My suggestion: Break it up into small tutorials... OH! and explosions. Every video should have explosions. OH! and guns. And you can't forget the hot chicks. And a spoon, a bowl, a banana?... you can't forget the banana. Some cherry ice cream, sprinkles, a shoe, a vacuum, some guys dog (doesn't matter who's, just find a guy, take it and run!). A 2003 Honda Civic with three of the four wheels missing. A shirt from that guy you stole the dog from. And knee high socks.

After you have all those ingredients. Find a magician, spit in his face, turn around three times, throw everything up in the air and BOOM! instant Youtube.
September 10th, 2013 @ 2:40 am

September 23rd, 2013 @ 5:00 pm
Ok I KNOW you didn't find those sounds from online...can you please do a sound design tutorial at some point? I know this is an AE tutorial site, but what is great video without great audio?? ;D thanks Andrew.
September 28th, 2013 @ 8:38 am
Can't wait for the tutorial or project file
September 28th, 2013 @ 10:41 am
Please make the tutorial soon!
    September 29th, 2013 @ 4:54 am
After days of struggling, endless waiting for the tutorial, I ended up with the same effect. Because I'm waiting for the jetpack, I don't"t want the site to be attacked, so here is the trick:

Venetian Blinds, Polar bear, slim rectangle mask and play around with the settings. Multiple layers (lots of them) will do the trick.

September 30th, 2013 @ 8:45 pm
WOW I would love to see a tutorial on this technique!!!!
so coo!
