Presenting in LA tomorrow! Come say Hi!

If you are near LA tomorrow night please drop by my presentation for After Effects and whatever else is going through my mind!  Last year it was great to meet so many of you and see your real faces!

We’re going to talk about some recent title work and some new features of Element 3D V1.6 that will be out soon.  One new feature includes the above image for creating an elevation map. Lots of possibilities! Plus I’ll take questions and answers from the audience, always risky!!

Tickets:
Currently there are less than 90 tickets left and it usually sells out pretty fast. This month especially because they have really great prizes and food  We’re even giving away several Element 3D bundles too!

DMALA: Tuesday 3-12-2013 At 6:30pm to 10PM

Get your tickets now and save a few bucks!

I was seeing your metropolitan city tutorial & saw the option of import 3D Sequnece. how do you do that, i don't think there is an option to do that in Elements. Only it imports 3D Objects....am i right ?

.:asART. Update:.

Hi @all ..
Here is somthing I am working on. It is rendered in "Draft Mode" so you cant see the motion blur and/or the "Depth of field" effect yet. But it shows more or less what is gonna be like at the end. It's completly done in AE CS6 using VC Element 3D. The latest version supports OBJ Sequences. That's how the running soldier is done. I've also used the "Metropolitan" package to create the buildings. There are 4 camera-sets in the scene. The first camera is rigged using the great "CAM RIG Script V2.0" from Maltaannon .. Feel free to comment and let us know how you like it .. Cheers!

Those clouds are not a mere .jpeg or a .png file, are they?
If they really are a static image file.. oh god.
Yet if you want to rotate 3d the camera, volumetric particles may turn out to be the primary usage.
I can only guess, just so excited :)

That is cool, I love esp the initial camera move thru the trees. Thanks for sharing! I'm itching to try the baked animation but I... don't... know how to bake yet!
    March 17th, 2013 @ 9:48 am
Hi .. Thanks for you comment. This scene is entirely done in AE. The running soldier is an OBJ seq. which is rigged in 3D Studio Max .. There is a script for 3Ds MAX which allows you to export your animated objects as an OBJ Sec. And the trees are just exported as single OBJ models. Imported and textured in VC Element 3D.

You are talking about "Bake" .. This is actually something you will have to do if you are using some particle systems (in my case in 3Ds MAX) .. Because generated particles cant be exported as OBJ files or sequences. Here are some links which can be useful to you in order to bake an animation or export geometries as OBJ Sequences:

    Bake >> http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/tags/animation-bake
    Export OBJ Seq. >> http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/tags/animation-bake

I hope this informations are helpful to you .. Let me know .. Cheers!

March 17th, 2013 @ 7:28 am
So this screenshot (stunning by the way)... Are the clouds a particle system in 3D space with Element utilising this new world pass to matte the buildings below and in front of the clouds or are the clouds just a 2D image with the world pass just creating an opacity gradient towards the bottom of each building? It looks like the former but still curious :) Nice work as always Andrew and team.

My first idea:
Possibility to bend objects and extruded text. Should be do-able for Sergio.
- Definitely More Slots for objects
- See changes in editor immediately in after effects monitor window, without closing the editor
- Clearer to see in effect window where group 1,2,3,4,5 settings start. BOLD? SMALL PICTURE? There are so many options, maybe make more clear by putting bold names for some things like ANIMATOR, WORLD TRANSFORM, RENDER, and so on.

Does the Announcement from Adobe & Cinema4D affect what may come in Element3D or will that be an enhancement to what Element3D does now? http://blogs.adobe.com/aftereffects/2013/03/and-now-for-something-slightly-different-ae-and-cinema-4d.html Just Wondering?
    Daluz
    March 20th, 2013 @ 11:47 am
If they'd just said "what may come" maybe even I could tell you. But, anyway not everybody uses C4D, some use MODO, MAX, MAYA and so on.
    May 31st, 2013 @ 9:06 am
I'm guessing that when that 'marriage' happens, it's a ways doew the road. And if it's anything like other features that Adobe gives out, it will be slightly disappointing and lack certain features to make it perfectly integrated. I'd love to see it happen, but for me, you'd have to just make a native 3d application more like After Effects than the other way around to make me really excited. meh.
March 20th, 2013 @ 6:47 pm
There is a lot of integration between AE and other 3D programs in the process. But, they still don't offer the direct simplicity that Element does and those other integrations will be RAM and CPU hungry. I'm sure the VCP team have some goodies for E3D version 2.0 which will blow our socks off.. again! :)
March 20th, 2013 @ 8:05 pm
How'd this go, Andrew??!

Can someone just help me out, please?
I'm talking about the blog where Andrew showed us a VFX/Motion Graphics breakdown of 'Revolution'.
Now what I wanna know is; At the end of the video the 'Revolution' gets revealed, but you can also see some flickering of the screen as if the video kind of crashes. Can someone please help me out with this effect? What's the name for this effect or is there a tutorial on the internet? Please help, thanks

    Hi there,
Bad TV and Time Offset Effects. Google them and there you will come up with lots of tutorials and variations of the effects that you were searching for. I don't know the exact effect workflow on the Revolution Title but I think you can manage to do it with your own style learning from those tutorials. Good luck.
