Here’s another dramatic logo I created with our new plug-in Element 3D using extruded masks. I used the Pro Shaders for the surface and I’m currently working on a short tutorial for this project right now! For those who saw an early version of it, I updated this one with some additional moving parts. Watch it in full screen baby!
The plug-in just came out last week but be sure to check it out!
This project with DOF took less than 7 minutes to render with my Geforce 580 at 720p.
Not too shabby.

3D MODELS

How did you make that? element is tooo awesome!
What is “Video Copilot DRAGON?”
Andrew didnt make it….his son who is less than a month old did…..just to let us know Element is childs play :0)
can we get project files?
1.Texture on LOGO is a Shader.Found in Shader pro (u need to buy separately)
2.LOGO is in Projectile weapons (u need to buy separably)
So unless you have these purchased you wont be able to get a project file with them.
……..Unless Andrew decides to include the .obj logo with the shader as a saved preset.
The Shader is from the Pro Shaders collection but the OBJ is included with the Plug-in actually not part of a pack. Plus simple shapes can be created using the extrude feature.
yep..I see it now !! I never bothered the icons… Used my own Obj files. So Don Mupasi even without shader you can then follow along very easily.
Great insight into this totally awesome Software Plug-In .cheers…
AWESOOME!!!! THIS IS GREAT!!!
7 minutes? I have trouble believing that.
But where are the sound effects from? Those add so much to it.
I do too sometimes! But this one has higher sample motion blur, the original one took less than 6.5 minutes.
http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Render_time.png
Definitely fake screenshot.
Are you kidding Lee Watson, right?? When Andrew ever lied to us?
Too good to be real
That’s awesome Andrew!
Thats a real screenshot. Why would he lie about that since anyone who has the plug in and the pro shaders pack can make the exact same thing. Looks sweet.
@Samuel – Please tell us you’re kidding…
Hey Lee Watson, You better shut your mouth! Think Before Your Speak!Am Pissed Reading How You Said Its A Fake Screenshot.
Look for the anmatiuon. Half is a 3d animation and half is a tex animation. Text renders fast so 3d aniamtion took about 6 mins. Its more than 1 frame per second so its possible!
It seems no one here has a sense of humour…
Nah Lee.. You’re just not funny xD
what about sound effects?
Nice effect
. Awesome quality!
Hey Andrew ! That looks really Good. After watching the video a second time …Towards the end after all the close-up shots and right before the last piece of the Biohazard logo comes together… it needs a little dust dropping off of it…really light dust nothing extreme.
The Logo has weight to it (I noticed how it was spinning
) because of the decay look (shader) applied ..small dust element falling off (when the last piece comes together) would be the cherry on top. Not taking anything away from it … just my Happy opinion.
Never mind I wasn’t watching it in full screen …I saw the dust element !!!! Good stuff.
Great! I saw the original version, but this is much better! It’s pretty amazing how something of this quality can be rendered in only 7 minutes using Element 3D! And it was all done from within After Effects. Tremendous.
Are these full 1080p screen shots?
“This project with DOF took less than 7 minutes to render with my Geforce 580 at 720p.” -bottom of the blog post.
This is my 4th time watching this …My favorite part of this whole clip ..is when the Logo spins !!! Freaking beautiful….how you gave it that weighted feel….most people might have just rotated it around like a tornado… Nice touch.
Which Depth of Field option did you use for the final render? Multipass?
Pixel.
Is there any way to use/simulate real lens blur effect with iris options, not just plain blur for DOF ? It looks great, but DOF loses highlights in intense blurring.
Could simply do the DOF in post and add all the nice Bokeh as you want with lens blur effect introduced in CS5.5… or buy one of them awesome plugins e.g. Boris or Frischluft
This would look awesome at the beginning of a video game. Great Job. Beautiful!
Nice!
Is this 100% Element only as far as plugins go?

I this I’m saying yes with that quote
Yes, this way you can create your own logos from Mask shapes.

You’ve just returned from your weekend vacation and you’re straight back into it….what a legend.
great !!! awesome !!!
btw, i wonder, when can we see the product trailer, coz we love the style that ur put in all ur trailer man, can’t wait.
Hmm, (I know you did this in pixel DoF, but) whenever I try and apply multipass (even at lowest settings), my composition, and Cs5.5 totally freak out and sometimes die. I’m using Nividea GeForce 670…
Is this a problem?
Maybe… but multi-pass DOF with Motion blur on will make things go crazy. Because Multi-pass DOF render the frame 300 times then multiply that by 6 passes of motion blur. We added the various modes so you can find the optimal settings for each project.
I did something abstract recently and I added 10 passes of motion blur and depth of field – multi-pass just to see what would happen. The ten second video took 43 minutes to render…but it looked great!!
Is there a reason you are using Multi-pass instead of Pixel?
Multi-pass is ideas for really small or thin objects when the other modes have trouble. I use Pixel blur for most things including this tutorial.
The problem is that when you turn multi-pass dof you are basically rendering the frame 300 times for a single frame. Then when you turn on motion blur, it is 300 X 6 for each frame. Things can get tricky but it is a nice thing to have when you need some fine detail motion blur.
Is the pixel DoF a separate plugin or part of AE? I can’t seem to find it.
I’m about to buy the plugin really soon, but can’t afford all of the add-ons just yet. I know you have the full package at $500, but will there be a package to get all of the 3d Model Packs at once without purchasing the plugin?
I can start out with the Pro 3d Bundle for now and want to get everything else on a different check. Any promos coming up for that?
How many levels of undo .. is there in the scene setup ?
That looks impressive. FAST render time too! Can’t wait for the Trailer, that’s how you roll! – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ECtG_h2ppoQ&feature=plcp — 50 seconds in! [haha]
Amazing. Simply Amazing. just one thing. I know this doesn’t have to do with the video shown here but, That Tutorial thing you showed us a couple of posts back, there was a comp with a bunch of CG helicopters in it. Are there aircraft models in any of your 3D Model Packs? If there isn’t I bet A Whole bunch of people would be Even more happy with this plug-in.
Taylor, just do a Google search for ‘free 3d model’ and you’ll find tons of sites offering .OBJ’s for free. Even Turbosquid has quality free .OBJ’s available.
Oh. Thanks.
Haven’t people ever heard of a little something called search engines?? They’ve only been around for decades already.
Sorry I meant if there isn’t you should make an 3D aircraft model pack THEN a whole bunch of people would be happy =)
Chapeau 2 all members of VC, with this plugins we count in more very exciting new tutorials, Don’t you ?
Unfortunately I can not get these plugins at this time. but to follow and enjoy watching.
Do i get credit for watching this a hundred times, and drooling, jaw on the floor?… I am getting the plugin next week, I asked for a raise at work.. and my boss said he is praying about it.
It reminds me of a studio logo animation at the beginning of a movie.
Video Copilot is gonna be the next Bad Robot.
Where are you getting these sound effects? In my opinion, it really makes the video stand out.
E3D is awesome. Love the textures on this.
It looks amazing! I bought 5 video copilot product, one is better than other and i will buy this new element plugin too as soon as i can! This logo animation…Andrew is a real genius…and it is just the beginning… what will the “end” of this? An own software company? Or will he direct a high cost sci-fi movie?
(Actually, i want that movie!!
)
Just watched it. Right before bed. Now I’m sure to have some sweet dreams! Coolness!
You need a woman Shawn lol
I’m having trouble animating two different 3D objects in a scene. And it seems like having two solids each with the element plugins bugs out in 3D space. Anyone have any tips on how to get a look like Andrew did here?: http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2012/07/the-origin-of-element-3d/
Wow- a lot going on! Must feel like a whirlwind. So I gotta ask…How’s that Matte Painting Challenge ? I’m sure everyone who entered would really dig knowing who won. We know you have a ton going on now…maybe just an update ?
Hey andrew,
I got a 3D model for a 120$ A UH-1 Huey OBJ FILE BUT WHEN I IMPORT IT TO ELEMENT EVEN WITH A gtx 570 card it looks like the model wont load correctly. here is a snapshot so you can tell me what you think. and if you want i can send you the file with the textures and if you can fix it for us and iam willing to shar it with all your fans, i dont mind.

I think sharing a purchased model MIGHT violate your purchase license….just a little….
this is a normal problem, next time buy good models or don’t use two different 3D application (corrupt)
Andrew has to watch out with his plugin… he has some serious composition heading his way with the “Edit Button”… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DD6WAr4A4Y
I think VC is safe with this
Here is the model in C4D, its a very nice model and already been done all you nned to do just get it ready for element.
http://i1068.photobucket.com/albums/u456/sammaghawiri/Untitled-1-1.jpg
and it would be a free gift for everyone to play with it.
I haven’t been able to create anything so far, adding 2 elements in the scene seems a bit confusing.
Very Cool thanks you VC
Very cool animation AND great sound effects!

I hate asking, but I’m having the dickens of a time getting the shadows to work (Such as cast onto the ground by a model). I try loading a plane and assigning the Shadow Matte Shadow onto the plane then position it under the model. But no lights seem to cast a shadow??!! I’m a Maya guy, so maybe I’m coming at this wrong. Is there a way you or someone who knows how could explain it ?
Element doesn’t currently cast shadows but you can use Ambient Occlusion and create a fake shadow with another solid.
Hi Andrew,
is the plugin running on an old Mac Book Pro 3.1 with 2,4 GHz Intel Dual Core & Nvidea Geforce 8600M GT graphic card? Great plugin & work! Thanks for sharing your experience!
Cheers,
Alex
How/where do you get all the sound effects for all your promo videos? Tutorial?

Nice! Finally a good Element video showcasing the refraction ability of clear objects. Good work, thx for posting!
Hey Andrew in 2000 years people are gonna think that you are the God of the videos, don’t make any bible or stuff like that if not people are gonna kill each other.
I Cant Sleep AnyMore Since This Plug-In Was First Announced… Not Ripping My Hair Of My Head While Figuring Out A Way To Save Money To Buy This Innovative And KRAZY After Effects Plug-In. That Andrew Will Continue Making Plug-Ins That Will Change How The World Like Like Element 3D Had In Just A Week After Its Was Released. I Hope That Andrew Knows That His Work And Effort On Video Copilot Has A Big Impact On Us Young FilmMakerz.

Respect To Andrew Kramer.
Love your work Andrew
Andrew will the chopper showed in the element videos ever be available for the community. I assumed it would be in the 3d action models pack.
I’ve had Element since launch, and I must say its the most powerful tool I’ve ever had, my 3d programs have already started gathering dust… I have only just scratched the surface of this immense plug in and can’t wait for a project in which to apply its power.

AK, Do you make your own sound effects as well or do you have a particular site you get them from?
Is Element 3D For Both 32 bit and 64 bit?
Where can I find such sound effects???
There is no limit to creativity!!! NOW WE HAVE NO MORE EXCUSES to create great stuff!! I’m doing some experiments about put myself in 3d world using a plane with my animate textures on it!! i have to say that’s great results. I’m creating 3d virtual world.. when i got it i will post it!! thank you Andrew! Element is a Missing brick for a complete (or almost) production with just After effect.
Hi there,
Great work and inspiration – thanks for sharing your experience.
works your plugin ith an old MacBookPro3.1, Duo Core 2.4 and GeForce 8600M GT or do I have to order an iMac firat…
Cheers,
Alex
hey Andrew can this plugin extruded illustrator file Q:
I’m going to ask because I’m curious but was an early version of Element used on the Star Trek film logo in 09? or was that B.E.? (Before Element)
Can I cast shadows with Element on walls ? But Thats great work as usual!! Big Andrew, Your name has become part of my house hold.
Dear Andrew, I’m a 3D artist (I should say I’m a froggy french 3D artist) and also in love with VFX and film making… Actually I was wondering if you needed some 3D stuff for your wonderfull new Product ELEMENT 3D? I will be so glad to help and share things with other cool guys…
Please let me know if you’re interested or not !
Bye!
would be really great to see a tutorial using element and CS6 new 3d camera tracking feature to incorporate geometry into live action footage. just a thought
Just bought Element 3d. Man, i have no words, what it can do is just incredible. Really, i don’t know what to say. Thank you mate, your product is just a jewel, something that will really change the production pipeline for a good 70% of the most common every-day tasks. Never spent my money in a better way. I’d like to spend more word about it, but i have to push back the crowd trying to get hands on MY tablet just to play around with Element.
Thanks again.
Sincerely, Adam
Hi Andrew, thats very cool stuff… please upgrade the 3D packs with an normal objects pack like zigaretts, glasswindows, glasses, bottles… things that i can find in everyones house, so that i can do things like… that very cool and amazing videos and stuff… that we all need so much!!! –> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-ggsukyTcg
Thanks for ur upgrade, perhaps you will generate a videocopilot bullet time Intro to, that would be great…
Joe
You just gave biohazards a major PR boost!
Hey Andrew, that is really cool, mixing with those sounds , your master piece is very impresive and stonish. Thanks for make those things man !…
The most impressive thing about this project is not the render but the render time. 7 minutes?????

this is a normal problem, next time buy good models or don’t use two different 3D application (corrupt)
It is a good model, it opens very nicely in c4d I just don’t know how to set it up ready for element.
Ya, there are certain steps for exporting complex models that I will try to explain in the Element Help section.
Andrew,
Is there any chance you might post some of your comps for a few of these examples? I’ve been trying to replicate the look of a few of the examples I’ve seen and I’m having a heck of a time! There are just so many settings… almost too many…
Anyway, the plugin is fantastic. I got the Motion Design and Pro Shaders pack and I’m loving the experimentation aspect of it, but sometimes it just feels like there’s too much to learn with very little explanation of what each setting does.
Thanks!
According to my experience in 3d programs this shap need unwarp uvwmap so how you unwarp it ?
Thank you Andrew for your reply regarding the model I got. It feels good that u are there to help us. That’s what makes you the best at what you do.
Every time I think I can consider myself “good”, you come out and put me back to shame
. How are you so mean and awesome at the same time??
i followed you step by step and the object looks great inside element, but in the comp it looks blury and crapy 2 pp or 1, i dont know anymore. i try to animate the camera like you the object does not rotate on its axis driving me nutts 2 tt or 1 i dont know any more.
Try looking in your GROUP pack, under ‘particle look’ and change the size to what suits, try 100% first.
is that the trailer?
when I first saw this example and the tutorial tied to it I thought of “The Avengers-credit sequence” in which the company hired an animation team and they put together fly-bys and close up shots of the various weapons and armor tied to each character. and seeing that you can take a mask layer into elements made me wonder would you do the same thing if you found a mask or masked out the shape of like a captain america shield or something like that, add the metal shader to it so you could get close up shots of the shield and really see the metal and stuff like that, If you could do a tutorial based on this idea it might be something fun and I think people will enjoy it,for some inspiration here is a link to the credit scene..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gf3vI1yY3rc
I predict that the next move for Element 3d Will be physics
I mean this is the stuff Gkaster has been doing in C4d that everybody wants to do , Element3D just made it easier
Andrew, I notice in your tutorial that your’re using Element ver. 1.0.323 instead of ver.1.0.322. Is there another update? Thanks
Andrew and Team
From someone who runs a busy production house who spends all day rendering out c4d files for TV commercials, thank you so much for revolutionizing both my work flow and render times.
The most intelligent way to describe it is, “STUPID”!! 3 day renders in a matter of mins.
You have changed the industry.
Nice application! What typeface did you use for the end titles?
the video copilot crew rocks! This new plugin makes me jump for joy! Woohooo
I have a question :
Since it has the DOF, will it include in the future the Lens effects like Bokeh ?
Please work on this Mr Andrew it will be a big succeseful feature to add
Also we really want to see Shadows from lights !
Thank you !
Any chance of the project files?.
Can I get the logo? That one BH_logo.jpg? Can’t find the logo like that.
I love Video copilot, but why only AAE tuts??? Make some of Vegas
