April 10th, 2012 @ 3:21 pm
While you are hanging out with the Adobe Dudes, ask them why 3D in after effects is unusably slow. I even saw in Abobe's forum an employee recommending against using that feature. It took me 4 days to render 20 seconds of Repossé text. What happened to the team that made Adobe dimensions? They figured out 3D modeling 20 years ago, but now everything they do seems so backwards and slow.

What about just a straight extrude in after effects. I don't need fancy bevels, I'm just tired of duplicating a layer 100 times to fake depth..... you tell 'em that!!!!

sorry for the rant
    April 11th, 2012 @ 1:46 am
Same here dude, nice observation... this is a tap to there shoulders (refering to Adobe)
    April 11th, 2012 @ 4:35 pm
"Ryan, from my message board wonders why is adobe 3D in after effects is unusably slow"- andrew "What are you talking about? Neway club LAVO tonight you in?" Adobe Dude
    April 12th, 2012 @ 6:55 am
ehhhh dude what the hell are u talking about .... there is no software in the world that can take 100 3d layer and still be fast !!!!! and for the simple extrusion u can try the shatter effect u'll get great results in no time....
    April 13th, 2012 @ 10:33 am
by "100 layers" I was refering to fake 3d by stacking a bunch of layers on top of each other - like andrew shows here - http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2010/03/shiny-new-title-project/

    - Also the Shatter effect only works on square layers. It doesn't give me an extrude based on alpha. The effect I was working on was taking a logo into photoshop, and extruding it, adding an environment reflection, then iporting it to after effects. I used the motion tracker plug in to match the movement of the back ground plate, and rendered just the text with nothing else. It took over 80 hours to render ONE layer of Photoshop 3D for 20 seconds. That is ridiculous.
    April 17th, 2012 @ 1:51 pm
Check out Lynda.com's preview of AE CS6 by Chris Meyers. It introduces a new 3D rendering engine that allows extrusion, bevels, reflections/refraction, and a few other cool things. Will likely require a serious graphics card though & apparently completely removes integration w/the Photoshop 3D approach you mention. If you really need extruded text, Blender is free...

So if Andrew is giving a presentation at the Adobe booth, I wonder if AE6 will have Element included? Only reason I can think of as to why there has been no news of Element.
April 11th, 2012 @ 8:35 am
Yeah, I think you forgot the part in your schedule where you will be PRESENTING ELEMENT.
Steve Anderson
April 11th, 2012 @ 8:36 am
Awesome... I'll see you there!
April 11th, 2012 @ 8:52 am
Yep because it was probably sold to Adobe and to be included in the latest CS6. So now we are going to have to upgrade and pay the bi bucks
    April 11th, 2012 @ 3:23 pm
Actually, I think Video Copilot did a hostile takeover and now owns Adobe.
April 11th, 2012 @ 9:43 am
Of course, the one year I won't be able to attend :(
Stan Arthur
April 11th, 2012 @ 11:45 am

I wish I could see you there.... but i am too far away... i am in Latvia
April 11th, 2012 @ 1:41 pm
Andrew, have you ever think about give or offer to the people who trains with your video tutorials (special the Basic Training) a "Title" certificating our skills after passing some kind of test?

It would be great to have one of! :)

Sorry for my english, thank you for all, you are awesome!

April 11th, 2012 @ 1:52 pm
I hope that Adobe records your presentations and puts them on AdobeTV. That would be great!

I hope I'm not spoiling the surprise. I wonder if Andrew's presentation at NAB has anything to do with the new 3D raytrace environment in AFTER EFFECTS CS6 that has just been announced. http://blogs.adobe.com/toddkopriva/2012/04/after-effects-cs6-whats-new-and-changed.html

If you ever plan on coming to Pakistan, LET ME KNOW and I'll arrange everything for you. Big fan of your work and your selfless initiative to make a difference in this field. We're growing and learning new things everyday and your trip will make a huge difference. Even something as small as a workshop will do. Lots of love from Pakistan. Take care and keep kicking a**

April 11th, 2012 @ 11:28 pm
I know what Andrew is trying to do.. Adobe Team is launching its new version of after effects at the NAB which is adobe after effects CS6 which includes some extraordinary features.
so Andrew is there too so we can expect elements to be coming soon either with AE CS6 or close to that.
April 12th, 2012 @ 1:02 am
Is Element now integrated into After Effects CS6 after the announcement of their new 3d renderer today? Or is Element a completely different product?
April 12th, 2012 @ 1:06 am
Ok, Ok, OK!!!!

I finally got it.

Kramer must have dished out some contract with Adobe, and ditched Element. Too coincidental. Shouldn't he be releasing Element?! Adobe is releasing After Effects 6 at this booth (The one Kramer is gonna be at?!)...After Effects CS6 has 3D capabilities now. And a 3D tracker built in. No need for element now, Kramer must have worked out a deal! I wanted Element so bad for so long! I love this site either way and would buy Element still if it is released in the future, just to support Kramer's hard work.
    April 12th, 2012 @ 5:36 pm
if the element tech is the new 3d stuff appearing in cs6 cant blame him. he will make a very tasty licensing pay check from it every month... fair play to him!
    Jody black
    April 14th, 2012 @ 4:24 pm
I have been wondering this as well but i have just finished watching a few hours worth of After Effects CS6 videos and there is no mention of the ability to import OBJs for use in 3D particle systems.... this was the major seller... the ability to take an OBJ file into After Effects is where the real seller of Element is gonna be....

CS6 looks fantastic but with the details revealed so far i cannot see how one would create a 3D sphere for example... nothing too complicated, just 3D elements a little more complex than extruded shapes with edge bevelling... which are essentially 2D shapes with depth.
    Jody Black
    April 14th, 2012 @ 4:25 pm
Unless they reveal Element 3D as a new built in plugin, much like Adobes licensing of Keylight and CycoreFX and other now 'built in' effects.
    April 18th, 2012 @ 6:23 pm
Excuse me for interjecting some perspective to your limited world, but Andrew "Kramer" has given for free for years projects, presets and creative ideas that we have used shamelessly in our work for several years, yet you seem to resent him making a few dollars off of the product he has had the most impact in making available to the common man? I was at the show. I can see now how Element will be an essential add on to AE6. The Adobe folks exhibited a very basic knowledge in regard to how to apply the 3d effects. I spent 6 hours and asked them every question I could think of. Elements will make it all make sense. The 3d does support extrusion of illustrator vectors and works pretty great, but doesn't allow texture mapping yet, but does allow reflection maps. all fairly awesome. Elements I'm sure will rock our world and be a must-have.
    Jody Black
    April 22nd, 2012 @ 12:58 am
Hi Randy, thanks for joining in, despite your opening being more than a little condescending and rude... I don't think I or the poster above have said a single unkind word towards Andrew and all his hard work so I am stumped as to why you felt the need to tell us off!! Your input has answered one question of mine that was unclear in regards to texture mapping.... My point was that while the addition of 3D in AW CS6 was a great thing I did not think it was based on Andrew's Element plugin due to the apparent lack of OBJ import that Element does have.... You are correct that CS6 + Element is gonna be a game changer.
April 12th, 2012 @ 1:10 am
andrew, what happened to yuor face.it's like you drank a bottl full of vinegar or something :)

Hi Andrew!
Is the new 3D engine of AE affects the release of your future plug Element?
Or maybe, it explode is possibilities?..

and I'm a fan of yours, too) and you're my teacher) would like to meet with you

April 12th, 2012 @ 5:31 am
I don't think Element has gone to Adobe. If you look at the features of the 3D in AE6 it is not the same as what we have seen for Element. Also, Andrew is doing a session on movie titles (Designing Main Titles with Adobe After Effects for Programs Like Fox’s “Fringe” and “Super 8”
Featuring Andrew Kramer, Videocopilot.net). Although, I wouldn't be surprised if Element isn't seen durning those presentation.

Seriously good luck, many of us will always be in your debt!
April 13th, 2012 @ 2:53 am
Hey Andrew, can't make it unfortunately! I'm not in the states till June. Best of luck with your presentation though, looking forward to the highlights you'll be posting next week.

Got a question though... Are you and your team responsible for the new 3D extrude abilities of After Effects CS6? If so, WELL PLAYED! ;)

April 13th, 2012 @ 5:20 am
Andrew at the NAB?? That's the main reason why I'd like to live in US!
April 13th, 2012 @ 6:54 am
Any chance that Element will be released at NAB? ;) /wishful thinking
April 13th, 2012 @ 7:03 am
Just thinking - If I had to choose to meet you or Tom Hanks that would actually be a pretty tough call for me. But you vs. Lindsay Lohan, I would have to go with Lindsay, because that would be a Crazy day!

You vs. Obama, I woud pick you. But I would pick Nixon over you. Come on Lindsay and Nixon, now that is a CRAZY night. Aroo!!

Anyways snag me a CS6 upgrade. ;)
April 13th, 2012 @ 9:57 am

Since there's no place to comment on the 25% off NAB sale posting, I thought I would write a big thanks to Andrew and crew here for the 25% savings. I purchased Twitch and Optical Flares, Yahoooo. I already love working with these effects, wish I had purchased them earlier.

I believe AK is most wanted guy this year in NAB ...
April 29th, 2012 @ 1:33 am
I did that guy at NAB! but i was busy watching the amazing breakdown of the Iron Man Hub development for Avengers, presented by jaycee (im sure im spelling you name wrong, sorry) from Cantina Creative.

I did not get to see your Fringe breakdown, but would have liked to say hello and asked you to give thanks to Matt for all the very fast feedback on the support. and off course the normal humble thanks for all the sharing!

I did learn from Jaycee (again with the spelling) Of a plugin called "Project Sync" (http://aescripts.com/ae-project-sync/) with is really great!
...i should remember to surf the aescripts more often.

Did Tino do the TP on the Orb?
