Shatner killed by Action Essentials 2!

Youtube Link

Video Copilot finally helped kill off William Shatner! Sort of. Love him or hate him, TV personality Captain Kirk was just exploded for a Priceline commercial and I couldn’t help but notice the explosion looked somewhat familiar.

Turns out his gruesome demise was enhanced with a clip from our very own Action Essentials 2 pack! I sometimes see some of our products used commercially which is exciting but when they kill off William Shatner… that’s worth talking about!

Now if you want to see Sam Loya being killed check out this Video and this one!

January 26th, 2012 @ 12:14 pm
I've seen them used in some BBC programmes in the UK
    January 26th, 2012 @ 12:55 pm
    yeah me too
    Ben N.
    January 26th, 2012 @ 12:59 pm
I could of sworn some blood splatters were used in the walking dead. And a few other programs/movies I cannot remember. But I have seen them all over! I love it!!
    January 27th, 2012 @ 1:09 am
I've used exactly the same explosion for the 3D car in my reel (, and tons of other stuff from the same pack.

I tried to reproduce the Andrew Kramer's Super 8-camera effect (he made it for the teasers of the movie) too, but, of course, I'm not him. I'll keep trying!
    January 28th, 2012 @ 2:55 am
During the World Cup, BBC used titles from right out of a couple free tutorials on here, exactly the same just changing what the text said.
    January 28th, 2012 @ 10:10 am
    CRoblex amazing showreal!!!
    January 28th, 2012 @ 11:11 am
I don't know what it means either but I will be using it in the future!!!! I PUSH MOTHERS BABY!!!
    January 28th, 2012 @ 11:13 am
Doe!! Replied to the wrong comment by accident.
    January 28th, 2012 @ 12:13 pm
Thanks, Double. I've tried to experiment with so many different techniques from several Andrew's tutorials, like set extensions, some compositing tricks, using CameraTracker and Boujou... Well, a lot of things. My future videos will be more specific, I promise.
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:15 pm
Lol! xD so fun!

I love VideoCopilot!

without this i will push mothers!
    January 26th, 2012 @ 7:45 pm
I have no idea what this comment means, but it's AMAZING! Oh, and I love VideoCopilot, too!

January 26th, 2012 @ 12:16 pm
No Problem Spook will return into the past and rescue him :D
    January 27th, 2012 @ 1:20 am
    you mean Spock?
Andrew Kramer is kinda cruel. First his friend Sam Loya and now Captain Kirk? He's a monster!
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:18 pm
And... you gave them free publicity too :3

Isn't it awesome to use VC's products?
    January 26th, 2012 @ 12:19 pm
We all get publicity from this! Click on the priceline link...
    January 30th, 2012 @ 6:22 pm
Some middle management analysis experts, "Ha, check this out, some idiot on the internet posted the wrong link on his blog and we're getting tons of hits!"
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:18 pm
Heck ya Andrew! That's awesome!
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:23 pm
Is that the crash of the kramerican airline ??? ;)
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:23 pm
That's pretty awesome! I remember the first time I saw a photo I did in print. I get that same feeling every time.
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:25 pm
Wow, the bus completely vaporized!
Rusty Shackleford
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:26 pm
I don't suppose you'd make a blog post about some of my stuff using AE2, would ya? I want free publicities!
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:26 pm
Hey that is cool!! LOL
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:27 pm

January 26th, 2012 @ 12:32 pm
You should watch austrian tv channels, i always recognize the effets from your tutorials and the "Evolution" - Pack seems to be very popular in Austria ;)
    March 6th, 2012 @ 10:10 pm
i reckon hey! especially in ads for the crime shows etc etc,.... ummm i think it was that show called 'ringer' which was crap, but in one of the promos, they had glass smashing behind some dramatic title, which was ae2 glass!
and some other sears workwear haahaha it had the floor sparks :D
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:33 pm
Save yourself....some money. Too funny. Way to go on blowing him up. Wonder who you'll blow up next.
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:35 pm
Great to see that your work is considered and used for professional and commercial projects, Andry! Nice tribute to your work and products... And a funny Advertisement! ^^ I think you couldn't imagine that you 'll see your work used for a video with William Shatner, one day while you were watching Star Trek when you were a kid! ^^

I hope that your work will be recognized and used more and more by the professionals and Production companies in the future.

Regards from France.

January 26th, 2012 @ 12:38 pm
I also saw the advertising for man on the ledge where they used the sektor golden from Optical Flares, your stuff are all over the place.
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:38 pm trek..abrahams..Andrew Kramer...and the circle is round

    February 3rd, 2012 @ 2:49 pm
    and you're a douchebag.
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:48 pm
Great. Thanks AK. If I drive, I'm going to drive off a cliff while texting. If I walk, I can get hit crossing the street. The bus option doesn't look too good now, and flying with Kramerican is right out. Guess I can still skate or ride a bike until they show up in some grisly VC tutorial...
Matt Brown
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:52 pm
He should've said, ""
January 26th, 2012 @ 12:56 pm
That's awesome! But.. they.. could have used some VFX-compositing tutorials tho ;)
January 26th, 2012 @ 1:03 pm
You must have the AE2 footage burned into your brain to be able to recognize your products in a split second.

Take a vacation man. I know of a new airline that'll give you a good deal.
January 26th, 2012 @ 1:03 pm
January 26th, 2012 @ 1:07 pm

Andrew Kramer, you must be multi billionaire right!?

I know it's none of my business... I'm just curious about it?
    January 26th, 2012 @ 1:11 pm
    January 26th, 2012 @ 1:34 pm
    I knew it!!! :p
    January 26th, 2012 @ 2:33 pm
In fact, Andrews tax bill is the only reason Americas credit rating wasn't downgraded to single A...
January 26th, 2012 @ 1:11 pm
Ive seen AE and OF and tutorial used loads in indie and high budget films, and loads in UK idents, ads, graphics, and especiall Chris Moyles' Quiz Night, they use your tuts to the letter and packages every episode in little sketches
January 26th, 2012 @ 1:13 pm
Man... if that was Chuck Norris.. He would just dust himself of..
Carl Soderholm
January 26th, 2012 @ 1:16 pm
Please release at least 10 more action Essential Packs. I will buy them all and it seems like people really need it. I see it everywhere.
    January 26th, 2012 @ 5:57 pm
Your very right. Andrew, Sam, and VCP has a top billing in a market that is really starved for quality content. More products Andrew! People in the smaller countries are getting tired of seeing the same old thing, even if it is really good.
January 26th, 2012 @ 1:17 pm
Also, let you Andrew know this:
On our national TV (I am from CROATIA), on some commercials, your Sound Designer FX is used a lot!
January 26th, 2012 @ 1:21 pm
Yeah explosion is screaming "Im created by Videcopilot"
January 26th, 2012 @ 1:27 pm
Wow. Your work has been used professionally with William Shatner AND Leonard Nimoy! Now you need Nichelle Nichols and Walter Koenig, and your life will be complete!
January 26th, 2012 @ 1:44 pm
Simply Awesome.

And please allow a cheap plug for you Professor Kramer...

We are having a blast blowing up all our friends and family with your "Action Movie FX" app. Now everybody can have a little Kramer magic in their pocket. That sounds kinda...

Anyway, keep up the awesome work. Can't wait to take a trip on your new airline!

January 26th, 2012 @ 2:00 pm
Awesome, Video Copilot stuff is used everywhere. I think the best has to be seeing Optical Flares being used in Transformers! Andrew, you're a legend dude!
January 26th, 2012 @ 2:07 pm
Nice! :D
Funny to see this very familiar explosions in TV. ;)
January 26th, 2012 @ 2:29 pm
Hey Andrew, not only there! Here in the Philippines, they use your products like crazy. Movies, commercials, companies, (even real state) ..its like too much man. It's like a kid given a new toy, keeps playing with it day and night.
January 26th, 2012 @ 2:36 pm
Priceline linking to Expedia = legitimate LOL (i.e. not one of those fake ones where people write "lol" but didn't actually expel laughter from their faces).

January 26th, 2012 @ 4:45 pm
Well, he should have said "Energy !" before he crashed to save him self... Great FX anyway.
January 26th, 2012 @ 5:44 pm
Hai Andrew how are you

iam really enjoyed to watch this clip when will you release these tutorial
January 26th, 2012 @ 5:50 pm
See Andrew, you do good stuff. We all know it. So when are you guys gonna start pimping out for some real financial backers to make your first feature length movie?

Just promise us that you will still do Video Copilot because my college doesn't teach after effects. Only your college teaches that in my area, and I have a lot more to learn.
    January 27th, 2012 @ 5:08 am
make a feature length movie.... then show us how to do some of the effects :D
But I really don't want you to because then you would have not time for VC :(
January 26th, 2012 @ 5:58 pm
hummmmmmm !
coooooool !
January 26th, 2012 @ 7:05 pm
Shatner and Action Essentials! Fquaking smart! :)
January 26th, 2012 @ 7:18 pm
your explosions look more realistic this one's to slow
January 26th, 2012 @ 8:00 pm
sam looks so innocent!!:)
January 26th, 2012 @ 8:08 pm
I think the person playing the Catholic Nun in the commercial is a guy. Sam would never do that to us! Well, I don't think so anyway.
January 26th, 2012 @ 8:55 pm
i love you video copilot
January 26th, 2012 @ 9:56 pm

January 26th, 2012 @ 11:04 pm
They also used hl2 sound effects.
Frederik Barington
January 26th, 2012 @ 11:51 pm
I've seen a lot of your products in Danish commercials. Optical Flares are used in ANY commercial. Action Essentials are used in Oister commercials any many others. Also i've probably seen the plug-in sure target 2 being used.. :P you'r doing great, keep up the good work! You are a big inspiration to many of us!
pinoy ko!
January 26th, 2012 @ 11:58 pm
20 fingers up for video copilot!

January 27th, 2012 @ 12:20 am
bad compositing ......
January 27th, 2012 @ 12:33 am
Hi Andrew,

Any plan for new bundle? Action Essential 2 + Pro scores? Action movies nothing without great score. :)
January 27th, 2012 @ 12:58 am
Hey Andrew, They always use Action Essentials 2 To Commercials in Danmark :D
January 27th, 2012 @ 1:37 am
I agree.. Issac !
They don't spend much time work for it.

It is always a pleasure to see you work on the screens, but sometimes sad to see your "preset tut" used, right off the shell, with no modification at all....
Robert sunshine
January 27th, 2012 @ 4:03 am

George Laird
January 27th, 2012 @ 6:47 am
a great ad and well done too, nice to see your handiwork used to such great effect.
January 27th, 2012 @ 10:17 am
Wow. That has to feel great! We all knew your stuff was awesome though. I'll be honest, I've actually looked before, but I've never been able to find them used on TV (although FreddieW on YouTube uses them all the time, and he's watched more than most TV shows anyway). Guess I just need to look more carefully.
January 27th, 2012 @ 5:08 pm
not bad
thanks for sam
January 27th, 2012 @ 5:09 pm
not bad
thanks for sam is good
January 27th, 2012 @ 6:50 pm
Andrew when are you going to release Proscores 2!?
January 27th, 2012 @ 8:04 pm
Since we're on topic of product use ... i saw video streams HD being used in the chaperone when they were tracing the Iphone by triangulation ... lol project 1 and 2 i think ...

always good to see the small guys getting great exposure.
January 27th, 2012 @ 9:12 pm
So now we know who the next Chuck Norris is.. Andrew Kramer
January 28th, 2012 @ 2:21 am
Andrew, this is very good! I am sure that that the files will appear in the most famous movies! But the way, Optical Flares used in the clip LMFAO - party rock, right? :)
January 28th, 2012 @ 8:48 am
You must be very proud! you killed William Shatner. LOL, the next step is Leonard Nimoy.. MWAHAA HAA HAA. Bazinga!
January 28th, 2012 @ 12:37 pm
Hey Andrew That's great!
You should have a place on your site for VCP sightings.
I see your products and tutorials being used all the time. In fact... I use them all the time and wouldn't mind showing people how I used it.

here is an example of a job I did with numerous VPC content.
Designer Sound FX, Optical flares, Riot Gear, Film Magic Pro, Blue Print Reveal Tutorial
January 28th, 2012 @ 1:20 pm
this is really awesome! Andrew is honestly the best out there. also can you guys check out my video and give me some feedback? i want to improve on my videos :)
January 28th, 2012 @ 3:17 pm
Action Essentials 2 rocks!
Jordan Carney
January 28th, 2012 @ 5:08 pm
Hey Andrew!
I think someone beat you with this released back at the end of November with a plugin extreemly simalar to ELEMENT. Check out this link!
    January 28th, 2012 @ 6:26 pm
I'm smart I wait and get Element when it comes out because it's gonna be way better in every aspect
January 28th, 2012 @ 7:53 pm
Andrew, espero algún día ver un largometraje tuyo, saludos desde Perú! Eres el pionero de esta nueva generación de especialistas en VFX!!
Ralph Kramden
January 29th, 2012 @ 12:08 am
Don't know if anyone else brought this up (No way I'm reading all these replies), but did you notice the horrible gap left in the explosion where the original vehicle was? I mean, couldn't they clone it and cover up that gap to make it look little more professional (Priceline comp I'm talking about)? Why the gap? Did they think nobody would notice? Kirk deserves a non gap death.
Probably the Romulans. Damn you Romulans!
January 29th, 2012 @ 3:20 am
but i don't think this will be shown in my country :/
Ovelyan Tigran
January 29th, 2012 @ 9:43 am
Andrew, this is very good! I'm sure that the ACTION ESSENTIALS 2 will appear in the most famous movies! But the way, Optical Flares used in the clip LMFAO – party rock, right? :)
January 29th, 2012 @ 1:25 pm
Its funny how people (even professionals) just drop the explosion on the footage without making any changes at all... Knowing right from the first glimpse it's AE2 completely destroys the realism.
January 29th, 2012 @ 1:32 pm
is maya really better than 3ds max?
i asked robert nederhorst ..he says that maya is more pipeline friendly and has larger install base....
is that really means that maya better than 3ds max?
    February 2nd, 2012 @ 1:42 pm
No. It just means that Maya is more friendly for a large production's pipeline and more people have it installed.
    February 3rd, 2012 @ 1:58 am
    Thanks Michael...
January 29th, 2012 @ 3:16 pm
Twas a pretty horrible way of using AE in my opinion, the bus fell really slowly and the impact was horrible. Bus still falling way too slow. Andrew, they should have just employed you to do it. You could have done a way better job. Still cool, though!
Oladipo Ogundipe
January 29th, 2012 @ 11:23 pm
Kramer the "Trillionaire" ROCK (lol)
January 30th, 2012 @ 3:20 am
I notice also that the sound of the bus juddering against the bridge just before it tips over the edge is from Half-Life 2 (probably the first, also)
    January 31st, 2012 @ 10:45 am
is that where it appeared first? I always yell out "standard sound" when I hear it... I think it happens at least one time each month :P
January 30th, 2012 @ 9:06 am
Videocopilot actually helps cleaning up those annoying tv commercials! Thanks Andrew!
January 30th, 2012 @ 9:27 am
Heavy use of Videocopilot's great Optical Flares in the new english (BBC) Sherlock Holmes series. Sweet.
Tim Creed
January 30th, 2012 @ 4:50 pm
If I was in the bus, I would have SHAT my pants. Get it? SHAT - SHATner? Yeah I just went there. Anyhoo, I have a good suggestion (I think) for Action Essentials 3. How about lava bursts? =) Keep it up Andrew!
Chris Francis
January 30th, 2012 @ 5:50 pm
I hope one day you'll create a movie with sam andrew! so that we can watch it on big screen! youll be the director..

January 31st, 2012 @ 6:12 am
It is really amazing to me HOW much I see your work/tuts on tv/film. You should get an honorary emmy AND oscar for such an influence.
January 31st, 2012 @ 11:36 am
NASA uses the rock crumble title project on all of their "NASA Now Minute" videos. It's funny to spot Video Copilot stuff in such random places!
January 31st, 2012 @ 1:10 pm
Save Yourself!!
...some money.

February 1st, 2012 @ 6:11 pm
What did you think when you saw it?!?!?!!?
February 2nd, 2012 @ 6:03 am
I see action essentials everywhere, in every movie. Action essentials is the best. The only thing that would be better is using real blood or explosions. Thanks for action essentials Andrew!
February 2nd, 2012 @ 6:46 pm
Finally they did it Xmas comes early
Johan Karlberg
February 3rd, 2012 @ 2:24 am
And the sound FX when the bus blows up can be found here this also used to be a sound-FX from HollywoodEdge's free stock.
February 3rd, 2012 @ 12:38 pm
Totally awesome, I saw this commercial read all about it before it aired, now that I know it's the ActEss2 pack, I'm jazzed about it too! I remember when Kirk died in Star Trek Generations he demanded a rewrite and they had to spend millions to kill Kirk, he likes to go out with a bang i.e. a big finish. ;)

This time he had a co-pilot. ;)
Tom Fallon
February 4th, 2012 @ 10:12 pm
VC footage and tuts show up ALL the time on promos and bumpers on pay TV here in Australia, often totally unchanged. Especially those made by John Dickinson :P
February 4th, 2012 @ 11:27 pm
our local channels using video copilot tutorials as the same.
just one question for computer
February 6th, 2012 @ 2:47 am
Hi ak,i'm very like your tutorials, but my computer has been very slowly, and i have 3200$ now, what can i do for my machine? What's your computer like? thanks.
    Joe O.
    February 7th, 2012 @ 10:03 am
Dude, $3,200?? Just get a new computer with that. Order the parts and put it together, if you do it that way you can build a killer machine for way under $3,200.
February 6th, 2012 @ 5:36 am
I'mm still awaiting moderation for my comment....
February 6th, 2012 @ 2:42 pm
Maybe we get a new tutorial this week??? Maybe??? PLEASE???? :D
February 6th, 2012 @ 3:53 pm
Hi Andrew

Mr Shatner blown up is long over due!!! Any chance of an advanced car pile up/multi crash in the future?
February 6th, 2012 @ 3:58 pm should make reel and portfolio in
and software skills too
Joe O.
February 7th, 2012 @ 10:01 am

Yeah man, I see signs of your tutorials and stock footage all over the interwebs!

But usually whoever used the tutorial left their creativity at the door and they just copied & pasted what they saw instead of learning the techniques so they could make something of their own.
February 7th, 2012 @ 8:14 pm
Australia uses a lot of your tutorials as stepping stone, Andrew! I see them all the time on Foxtel, sometimes it is frustrating because they can not mix it up with their own ideas and it is a 100% replica of what is shown on your site. In a way they are getting paid for not coming up with anything new.
February 8th, 2012 @ 5:20 am
They shouldve added the dust at cam to the explosion , would have been extra cool
February 8th, 2012 @ 4:24 pm
Cool explosion, I also used it. Action essentials 2 and optical flares were used for this clip.
February 10th, 2012 @ 9:02 am
Hmm, come to think of it, I saw the use of your Iron Man HUD tutorial in a progressive commercial not too long ago. the "targeting system" was used as some technology in the background, and it was exactly how you did it in the tutorial. VC is getting more and more popular by the day.

February 13th, 2012 @ 6:16 am
Almost ALL of the effects published in were extensively used by ALL the Spanish channels... LoL!!!
February 21st, 2012 @ 7:21 pm

March 2nd, 2012 @ 12:04 pm
Nice job andrew... I love u so much... Pls keep it up
March 16th, 2012 @ 5:53 am
Hahaha always exciting to see your own products pop up!
April 21st, 2012 @ 10:11 pm
Hey Andrew, along with this commercial that used your product, I was watching tv tonight and saw an informercial for the Insanity product and noticed they used your crumble effect for their title sequence.
July 30th, 2012 @ 12:53 pm
No Kirk dies yet again on a bridge, but still not THE bridge! xD
