Just so you know…

I’m currently working on some VFX for an upcoming feature film and we are finishing up this month on about 50 shots.

I’m still very anxious to show you what we have been working on at Video Copilot and I think this will represent a solid direction and a new level of content on the site. Needless to say it has been busy as of late, from finishing the FX on my “Magic Orb” project to getting involved on a feature film that actually requires the FX to actually be good. Obviously it has been really fun and sometimes really late but I’ve been exploring some fantastic new VFX and workflows so I can’t wait to share them with you.

Of course behind the scenes, Video Copilot is moving forward on 3 new plug-ins, one of which is being shaped around the needs of real film work and experiences. I believe they represent the next-generation of tools that will open up some amazing possibilities…

Believe me, I don’t mean to tease but I just want everyone to know what we are up to and what we are working on!

Until soon, All the best!!

I disagree with Oliver above, I'd love to see more 'workflow' tutorials like many here online (e.g. 'Medical Zoom') and also the amazing 'Bullet' DVD. Can't wait for the next tutorial DVD - if any. (hoping) ;D

Not trying to hate on Olive but I also Disagree with Oliver. Would love to see more overall project workflow tutorials from 3d to After effects.

    April 22nd, 2011 @ 2:41 pm
I agree with Olive to an extent. With the amount of 3ds tuts out there, and 3ds -> AE transition, I like coming back to VCP for very AE specific dealings. It's like a refuge for those tired of browsing piles of mixed and garbled tuts and videos. Also really anxious for some clip releases Drew.

    April 24th, 2011 @ 10:28 pm
I'd also like to see some tutorials about using After Effects together with 3D Software, but I also can't afford software like 3ds max, Cinema 4D etc., but there's also a free alternative which I'd like to use: Blender (www.blender.org).
    April 25th, 2011 @ 5:43 am
I would really love to see some CGI stuff Andrew. I would like to know how to make an object look real in a scene like with lighting and color correction and stuff. Thanks!

i the short time I've been learning and studing AE I see in some cases where there are several different ways to achieve the same look or effect some are easy some harder so I see keeping a open mind may efford a different or easier solution.

Will these plug-ins be free?
    April 20th, 2011 @ 6:06 pm
Not these ones. In addition to myself, we have a team of developers working on creating these advanced tools and they will be part of our commercial products. Of course we will continue to develop free content and training as well as the occasional free plug-in in the future.
    April 20th, 2011 @ 6:09 pm
Free is always nice of course, but at this level of expertise, I am willing to pay whatever the VC team asks.
    Don
    April 20th, 2011 @ 9:44 pm
Totally agree with James. All the plug-ins developed by VCP has a commercial value and they are more productive and cost effective compared to similar products in the market. May be a demo version or an educational version would be a better alternative for non commercial users.
    Dax
    April 22nd, 2011 @ 9:28 am
I'd like to weigh in here and also state that although 'free is nice' we here at The Devil's Minstrels production company prefer the VC products as paid products. "Free can usually only go so far" in the development stages (I am also a DoD software developer at my day job). Paid is where the quality is vastly improved by the time associated with the product and of course the well deserved return on VC's investment. VC products are worth every penny - and then some.

We would not exist in our current 'state' of shopping our TC show to the Networks if it wasn't for VC and look forward to *ALL* the future paid products - we've bought literally almost all of them.

I personally am glad to see VC hiring and building a team of developers to support VC's future.

And of course we wish Andrew continued success in his nonVC adventures :)

    - Dax (Creator of The Devil's Minstrels)
    April 23rd, 2011 @ 4:21 am
You're really nice Andrew and it's also very good to have some free stuff and when we find some free stuff to our VC then it's really awesome.!!!

Sometimes you can use them all to your work in urgency but i also think that as you've been making free tutorial for us, so you shouldn't upload the project files of those tutorial in free or at least you should charge some $ for those tutorial project files, then i believe that most of the people will think to learn the tutorial than have the free project file.. Just an advise, If you like..
    Noah

April 20th, 2011 @ 5:44 pm
Congratulations mate, I find you have discovered a amicable balance between what is free and what you pay for.....free tutorials.. but pay for the plug-ins...although you even include some free plug-ins and I was surprised to find "Sure target' was free....also your paid products are very reasonably priced! and that was before! my Australian dollar hit 1.07US...so keep up the good work mate your a credit to what has been a very closed and guarded industry
April 20th, 2011 @ 5:50 pm

Thanks for providing top notch AFX/3D training and providing such professional content. If one company in the 21st century was to be selected and awarded for their efforts in promoting special effects and compositing among aspiring artists I am sure 'Video copilot' would win hands down. You are an inspiration to a lot of people including myself. Once again thank you and in the words of one well known 3D character "To infinity and beyond!"

Andrew - as always awesome news man. You blow us all away with your work and your generosity in sharing what you know and learn.

About died laughing the other night on Fringe when I saw the man on the ledge about to jump and realised it was probably working on it that led to the incredible tutorial you did showing us how to pull that off.

Your changing the face of entertainment both with your skills - and by bringing up whole new generations of people who study you. Can totally see people refering to VFX artists with a certain look as "Oh - he's from the Kramer school of VFX".

Keep it up man. Look forward to those new plug ins :D

Sounds good, I think feature film VFX work flow will really crack the brain on how the pros do it. Hopefully we shall have another one like "The Bullet" with work flows for 3DS Max, C4D, & Blender, then final composite in AE. Can't wait.
April 22nd, 2011 @ 6:28 pm
I'll gladly buy the new plug-ins, whatever the cost. Anxious to see what they're about!

Andrew,

I would love it if you could do a tutorial on space warfare...I.E. lazers, phazers, blasters, photo-torpedoes and that really cool shockwave effect!

Thanks.

I think I finally figured it out! Your working on "Super 8" huh? I just saw the trailer and it had your flares all over it. Plus, it's directed by J.J Abrams. And we all know you two get along nicely ;)
