Pretty crazy to step through that frame by frame. It looks like it pumps out a burst of gas which distorts the air and then looks like the air just ignites itself rather than a burst of flame emanating from the cannon.

Hahaha. If he says it’s real… it’s probably real. I personally think it’s like the 3D glass pan shot… it looked a little “fake” but was total real… And an air cannon can actually make it look like that. It’s not really burning anything, so that explains the limited smoke… The only thing I would ask andrew is how did you have the exposure set correctly? Even with such a bright scene, fire is usally way brighter and your white clip didn’t do much compressing. This is a serious question. Thanks.

Haha It still looks FAKE as Paris Hilton But I believe it is not fake at all… You know that in 1969. they were shooting high budget movie in Yugoslavia with Yul Brynner, Orson Welles etc. Anyway, they had to destroy a big bridge in one scene. So they built actual expensive bridge only to destroy it. However it looked very fake. So they repeated shot on a small scaled model, and kept that shot instead because it was more convincing. So…

lol.. awesome. I would love to know how you pulled the matte. I just took my rifle out to get some shots of bullet hits, debris and such but had to use a blue screen. Mostly because I have no idea how else to do it. Colorama maybe? Would love to know.

They give good clues to the interaction of transparency with backgrounds.
