Failed Blog Show Out-take

So we’re working on a fun new blog show and it’s taking a little longer to produce than expected but here is an embarrassing out-take to enjoy.

Believe it or not, we have to use trick editing to make it seem like I can say a complete sentence. Usually I can introduce a segment in 1-2 takes but some days… not so much.

Be gentle, it was windy. Should probably watch before you read any comments…

Check it out

September 25th, 2010 @ 12:50 pm
The motion tracking was just SOOOOOO DAMN GOOOD!!!!
im assuming this is from A.Essentials2 collection
when will we get A.Essentials 3 :D!!!!!
September 25th, 2010 @ 12:56 pm
It looks cool but its nothing we haven't seen before. just ordinary explosion compositing with a little motion tracking.
September 25th, 2010 @ 1:07 pm
Hey Andrew. Fantastic job! I just had a question: we all know that After Effects doesn't have the best tracker, and we all can't afford Boujou or SynthEyes. Could you tell us a way to integrate precise tracking data with the Voodoo tracker (it's free and just as good as Boujou) into After Effects? It's a problem I've had for the longest time.
September 25th, 2010 @ 1:10 pm
Got me!

(Error, my comment was too short, please try to say something useful. Hmm, that's what I have to say.)
September 25th, 2010 @ 1:11 pm
Wow! You did this for a joke on your blog?? There are TV shows with effects nowhere near as good as that! :-O

If I had a fraction of your talent I'd be a very happy man!
September 25th, 2010 @ 1:16 pm

You never know what to expect, and it's great. The Effect was superb, acting as well! You've used your status as being a great trusting person to great effect and we've focused our attention to every word you said in the video until the point of now return. Great and i only hope there will be a tutorial for it soon.

(Warning to all, Turn your speakers down, I mean up! Sorry Down.... Ha!)

September 25th, 2010 @ 7:31 pm
I was afraid of this- With such a popularity comes all this other extraneous content that is, while nice, not the reason I used to come to this website to begin with. Came to see great, useful tutorials. Last one was from mid-August. I know the legions of Kramer fans will snicker and try their best to deflect this point, but fact is, this is great, but the tutorials are the "bread and butter" so to speak. If I want to be entertained, I can catch a movie. I come here to learn AE. Not laugh or marvel at blog posts. No bad intentions, just saying you seem to be getting caught up in the hype machine a little too much- Step away from J.J.Abrams and come back down to reality! We love the tutorials. They should be the FIRST order of business.
Sorry, don't hate me. Just trying to be honest.
September 25th, 2010 @ 7:44 pm
OMG! wow that looked soooooooooo real. It was not real right? lol great job
Jim P Meister
September 25th, 2010 @ 7:45 pm
And I don't mean to "Double Post", but why are people screaming for tutorials on this? Didn't you people learn from ANY of his hundreds of previous tutorials? Just because none had him in a dirt field, doesn't mean the same principles of basic effects don't apply! Heck, it doesn't even look like there's any masking of the body, so that only leaves adding layers and using your imagination. I'm sorry to rant. There, I feel better now.
Nam Vu
September 25th, 2010 @ 7:50 pm
Damnit Andrew, you scared the living hell out of me on that one. I ain't listening to any of your advises ever again. 'Watch before reading the comments', that one flew right over my head.
September 25th, 2010 @ 8:04 pm
NO NO NO!!!! NO! You're supposed to walk to your car, then get out your keys, open the door, get in the car, sit there and read something, closeup on the ignition as you put in the key, THEN BOOOOOMMM!!! That way, no one sees it comging!

September 26th, 2010 @ 10:01 am
Perfect example of directing attention, nicely done, especially like the shock wave affecting the ground/grass and the attention to detail of rotoscoping or matting yourself out of it. You made my 6 month old black lab puppy pee himself.
September 26th, 2010 @ 10:10 am
Woa.....increible se ve muy realista....estaba tan concentrado que quede con el corazon palpitando rapido....
September 26th, 2010 @ 10:40 am

My heart jumped !
September 26th, 2010 @ 12:24 pm
@Jim P Meister: I think you'll probably find Mr Kramers first line of business (as far as Video Copilot is concerned) is making plug-ins and all the stock footage to SELL. While the tutorials are a fantastic resource for us they are the "carrot" to get us all visiting the site again and again... Ever noticed all the freebies Andrew gives us in the tutorials project files? How about all the mentions of Twitch, Action Essential and more recently Optical Flares? While its clear the tutorials are essentially a subtle sales pitch its still obvious that Mr Kramer enjoys making them for and I for one am grateful that he is so willing to share his incredibly creative and inspiring knowledge with us. However make no mistake that while the tutorials are probably key to the success of Video Copilot they aren't the first line of business.

Or you could just lighten up a little. I think Andrew is simply trying to show us that Video Copilot isn't just another faceless site trying to sell us stuff, it (and he) has a personality. If you don't like it just watch and learn from the FREE tutorials and quit bitching.

Sorry, don't hate me. Just trying to be honest.
September 26th, 2010 @ 12:25 pm

September 26th, 2010 @ 6:22 pm
@Jim P Meister

You criticize Andrew for having his priorities skewed, somehow trying to justify that working for a world class director is less productive than consistently producing free content for a website. Perhaps you should consider rethinking your own priorities and find something more constructive to do.

On a more positive note, thanks for the smile Andrew. As with everyone else, that blast caught me off guard. The effect was also very convincing upon review.
September 26th, 2010 @ 6:50 pm
haha, awesome. I had my speakers up pretty loud to make out what you were saying, so I definitely jumped. Nice one.
September 26th, 2010 @ 6:55 pm

I have to say, this explosion was composited well. I would like to see a tutorial for this scene. Also i was very curious to what program you used to create the Action Essentials 2 explosions (Fume Fx, Phoenix Fluid Dinamics, ect.), or were these real explosions that were filmed. I work for a school and would love to teach some students how to make this kind of thing.

Andrew, that completely awesome! You know how awesome it was? It was so awesome it made me jump big time (had my speakers turned anyway - whew). It was quite realistic - didn't see that coming at all man. Fun! (Tutorial now? LOL!)
September 26th, 2010 @ 7:36 pm
Thanks a lot. It was cool and sCarYY :D
Maybe you played with a wind effect, didn't you? nice distractor .
September 26th, 2010 @ 8:19 pm
wow that was really awesome, i wasnt really expecting it.. its like those youtube videos of some little girl popping out at you in a hidden frame and this large screaming that makes you wanna jump out of your chair like a little kid
September 26th, 2010 @ 8:29 pm

September 26th, 2010 @ 8:33 pm

That was freaking awsome, I new Andrew wears boxers, if you pause right after the explosion --blue striped boxers. I just stopped by because we were talking about how Sam looks like the actor playing Capone in HBOs new Boardwalk show.

I got suckered anyway. Thought you were going to pull the very scary face thing noticing the scare comment. Was just waiting for what image you'd come up with. BANG!!! You rat bstrd Kramer! lol. As for the tutorial? Post which past tutorials for people to watch which made this possible. Then we will be forced to be creative and come up with our own version. No pounding on the walls so far, so I guess I'm safe.

Welll, fantastic, imprressive and all that. AK is realy one of the best in this ball we call Earth. At list in AE.
The frame by frame exploring reeveals almost perfect work. The only small, maybe thiny thing is a shockwave coming from the blast and not bending the grass. I am not capàble to do the thing like this in years, but I saw this and it is just my humble observation. I learned so much from Andrew's work. Thanx, thanx, thanx.
September 27th, 2010 @ 5:38 am
