Inspirational Spot with Optical Flares

Gkaster just posted a very inspirational spot using Cinema 4D, After Effects and our own Optical Flares Plug-in. Great work with close attention to the little details… who knows, maybe we can convince him to give us a little breakdown of some of the creative work.

February 18th, 2010 @ 3:23 pm
im gonna have to get c4d

February 18th, 2010 @ 3:25 pm
It's great to see real-life examples!
Excellent work, great overall "golden glow" finish!
February 18th, 2010 @ 3:26 pm
Yeah, a breakdown of that would be really interesting to see!
February 18th, 2010 @ 3:28 pm
Very well done!
February 18th, 2010 @ 3:30 pm
Yeah man I told you this was hot. plus the flare at the start. First thing came to mind was Optical Flares baby. It has so much more depth than knoll light factory.
    June 29th, 2012 @ 8:58 am
do u really talk like that? ok I take that back - its seems everyone on this forum talks like that ;)
February 18th, 2010 @ 3:31 pm
n1ce one!

btw , Andrew, i see you always use 3ds max and cinema 4d and talk about them. I cant understand why, cuse Maya is so... usefull and handy to use. I started with max , then my friend gived me Maya. I cant get back to max :)

Maybe here is a secret ( for example : max have better render features in Vray) ?

February 18th, 2010 @ 3:31 pm
That was freaking sweet!
February 18th, 2010 @ 3:33 pm
Cool, great work! I love optical flares, i use it in a music video im working on at the moment! :)
February 18th, 2010 @ 3:34 pm
Very nice. I'm glad he didn't overuse Lens Flares like some people tend to do.
February 18th, 2010 @ 3:38 pm
Awesome spot! I like it and great use of Optical Flares.
Berakdown will be interesting to see.
February 18th, 2010 @ 3:43 pm
Very nice subtle use of Optical Flares.
February 18th, 2010 @ 3:46 pm
maybe who can create tutorial about adverts something like this in c4d ? or ad something like energy drinks
February 18th, 2010 @ 3:50 pm
Cool stuff.

Andrew, I know stuff like that is possible in Blender. Would you recommend "The Bullet" to people wanting to try to do similar work? Like, does it teach stuff at that level?
February 18th, 2010 @ 4:14 pm
Looks great, could use some more motion blur to smooth it out and make it feel more glamorous/realistic, but otherwise inspirational work indeed :)
February 18th, 2010 @ 4:21 pm
This is one reason cinema 4D costs so makes things as beautiful as this....with the help of optical flares of it the polished perfection it deserves.
February 18th, 2010 @ 4:46 pm
Amazing! Looks very inspirational... :)
February 18th, 2010 @ 4:46 pm
Nice golden glows dude.
Hugo Strange
February 18th, 2010 @ 5:17 pm
Haa Yes..This is what I wanted to see Andrew.
I'm happy for Video Copilot.

I was waiting for other professionals to use OF.Just to see the results.

In the hands of real artist, this is the kind look
February 18th, 2010 @ 5:42 pm
C4D is the Best. Been using it for 9 years now! Love it!
Easy to use, excellent quality, and fulled with so many goodies!
February 18th, 2010 @ 5:46 pm

I have a request. Can you do more C4D and AE integration tutorials, those two can be powerful when used together.

I would like to see more tutorials on these two programs.

Thanks! Keep up the great work!
February 18th, 2010 @ 5:55 pm
that really was awesome, I'm very impressed, more C4D tuts please Andrew! :D
February 18th, 2010 @ 5:57 pm
yo that was gangsta
February 18th, 2010 @ 6:00 pm
If you want C4d Tuts head over He's more of a cinema 4d guy.
Andrew is more along the lines of 3ds ma, but there is always time to convert you. ha
February 18th, 2010 @ 6:02 pm
Great Andrew :)
February 18th, 2010 @ 6:20 pm
Niceeee Andrew, Optical Flares Rulez! and so the Sure Target plug-in really awesome, powerfull and easy to use, thnks man!!!!

By the way, maybe it would be a good idea make a tutorial dvd about superpowers or some like that, maybe not xD, but a tutorial about how to make a COOL slideshow using just SureTarget, like this one...

I did it for a friend to give it to his girlfriend(Feb14)...

thanks again man!
February 18th, 2010 @ 7:07 pm
I saw this dude's demo reel a while back and felt a need to track him down and steal his brain so that I could put it in my head.
February 18th, 2010 @ 7:30 pm
Demo is not bad!
February 18th, 2010 @ 7:54 pm
Gkaster does excellent work. Should check out the demo reel. It would be great to get breakdowns or the 'how to' from some of his work.
February 18th, 2010 @ 8:30 pm

I had a question about the Forum optical flare promo, someone can help me with the presentation of the product? is an example similar to Loreal but made by Andrew Kramer .... and I fail to meet such a thing ....
February 19th, 2010 @ 3:05 am
Beautiful! I love GKASTER'S work...
I used Optical Flares a lot in the leaders & graphics for the official Dutch Super Bowl Party:
Would have been a whole different story without OF!
February 19th, 2010 @ 4:19 am
i could use that product too
February 19th, 2010 @ 4:39 am
hey andrew,

you wouldn´t believe how many TV channels here in Austria and Germany use your products and tutorials, I even saw a clip where those "creatives" just downloaded the project file "ancient title" and replaced the text...

greetings from austria
February 19th, 2010 @ 5:01 am
"I have a request. Can you do more C4D and AE integration tutorials, those two can be powerful when used together."
You barely need tutorials, just look up multipass rendering and C4D integrates with AE so well that its basically fire and forget.
February 19th, 2010 @ 5:08 am
heidewitzka... that looks beautyful!!! You have to know that optical Flares, Cinema 4D and AfterEffects work perfect together! You make the scene in Cinema 4D then Export the Szene to AfterEffects (yes with everything) then you click on optical flares, take the 3d track light and voila! You cant imagine how beautyful it looks... i dont regret to buy this plug-in at all... (sorry for bad gramma) As a Matter of Fact I LOVE IT!!!
February 19th, 2010 @ 6:01 am
the idea of not having optical flares on a dvd throw me off. I realy would like to have the dvds so lets us know if thats possible.
February 19th, 2010 @ 6:09 am
Great work. Was this a spec spot or actually for L'oreal? Seemed weird that there was no VO.
February 19th, 2010 @ 7:05 am
Incredible work! I need to step my game up
February 19th, 2010 @ 7:06 am
Wow. Just wow. Excellent work.
February 19th, 2010 @ 7:19 am
What is better Cinema 4d or 3Ds MAX
February 19th, 2010 @ 7:25 am
February 19th, 2010 @ 7:38 am
Sick awesome! A perfect mix between C4D, AE and the Optical Flares! Though I haven't bought Optical Flares yet
February 19th, 2010 @ 9:07 am
@Bane... There's loads of similarities between the two so it's quite hard to differentiate.... but my own preference.... Cinema4D kicks 3D Max's ass for ease of use:-)
February 19th, 2010 @ 9:47 am
Unlike usual, this actually makes me want to go out and buy the product. In fact i will now!
February 19th, 2010 @ 11:24 am

Pavel Peterka
February 19th, 2010 @ 12:21 pm

we want to see more blog-show, also we check every day for new post,,, don´t forget about us.

Thank you for be our AE guide

February 19th, 2010 @ 6:42 pm

Some people here realy makes me laugh .
When someone post a nice video done with C4D...Oh my god I have to get C4D & anther day it's 3DS MAX...

So let's make it clear :
C4D, Maya, 3DS, Xsi or... They all make the same of course some are easier to use than other but they all deliver the same level of quality !
The only thing that is important is your brain & creativity !
Please stop thinking that the software does it all .

February 19th, 2010 @ 9:20 pm
very nice,,,,,,,,
February 20th, 2010 @ 1:09 am
I think that a lot of us would appreciate a tutorial on C4D :)
February 20th, 2010 @ 4:21 am
Well i think that video was mediocre.
Not bad... not good :)
No need to buy C4D because of it.
It can be done in MAX easily.
MIke Adewa
February 20th, 2010 @ 6:04 am
Nice work!!! Would love to know how they put that together.
February 20th, 2010 @ 6:20 am
this is nice i use 3ds max but i still have isues with exporting animation with transparent background. maybe u could have tutorial that have focus just on proces of geting a media from max with nice resolution and with transparent background.
that is my isue :S
February 20th, 2010 @ 7:38 am
The project like everyone other..
C4D.. Max.. Maya.. Softimage.. Blender.. Lightwave.. unimportant..
Optical flares, Tinder box LENS FLARE, Knoll light factory..

everything depends on the person..
February 20th, 2010 @ 12:10 pm

February 20th, 2010 @ 1:38 pm
Nice spot!
I am wondering, how this growing cells effect (0:15) work. Is it some procedural map in C4D? I am trying to do something like this in 3ds max and i will be very happy for any tips or links etc.
THNX for all Andrew ;)
February 20th, 2010 @ 5:06 pm
Stunning color scheme and lighting!
And yes: DO THE BREAKDOWN!!! ;-)
February 20th, 2010 @ 5:31 pm

February 21st, 2010 @ 7:50 am
Wow that's pretty cool. I wish I knew how to use 3D modeling programs. Andrew, you should make a tutorial on 3D modeling software one time :D
Pavel Peterka
February 21st, 2010 @ 9:47 am
There are a lots of tutorials about 3d modeling on the inet just use head and "onkel google"
February 21st, 2010 @ 11:50 am

February 21st, 2010 @ 4:41 pm
Hey Andrew,

When is there going to be a new blog show? Always a pleasure to watch them. ^^
February 21st, 2010 @ 10:45 pm
I'm pretty sure the Black Eyed Peas used Optical Flares in one of their new music videos. Prolly worth checkin out
February 22nd, 2010 @ 7:27 pm
Got the opportunity to watch one of your Optical Flares tutorial at my friend's place. Just wondering if you knew about the 'loop_out('cycle',0)' function ( It really helps the workflow when working with looping compositions.

But you're the AEGuru, I'm pretty sure you know all about it.

February 23rd, 2010 @ 12:06 am
Hey Andrew.,. first of all nice work.,. gkaster works r gr8,.,

Mentioning C4d's usability.,. I can assure U that the same result or more than that can be produced by 3dsmax., Its upto ur skill level on softwares.,.
February 23rd, 2010 @ 3:08 am
Hey Andrew gkaster works fine
February 23rd, 2010 @ 12:36 pm
That was pretty neat. I'd like to know how he did that.
February 23rd, 2010 @ 4:50 pm
Hey ! This ad as just been made in a French Post-Production company where I'm workin'

Check out our stuff ^^

BTW Andrew, you make an amazing job, thank you for all your great work ;)
February 24th, 2010 @ 8:43 pm
Hey Andrew,
Found this video at Vimeo that uses the optical flares rather subtly but to magnificent effect.

It's not my video nor do I know the guy who made it, just thought it was a great example of the different uses for the plug in.
February 25th, 2010 @ 2:52 am
its no big deal, you only need to set the rendering to an image type which supports transparency, like PNG or PSD layered. JPEG (.jpg) does not work here.

*and also, i don't know about MAX, but in Maya you need to check "z depth". you should see it in the rendering settings.
February 25th, 2010 @ 4:26 am
I'm sorry, i was actually referring to the alpha channel, obviously.
February 25th, 2010 @ 5:59 am
Wow, that is great!
The only thing its missing is the "Because you're worth it" that Loreal always uses.
February 28th, 2010 @ 7:17 pm
Hi andrew. i think i have spotted optical flares in justin bieber - baby music video. it's alot of lens flare, but i dont know if they are yours. check it out.
Bruno M. da Silva
March 1st, 2010 @ 3:06 am
Nice work in did...

once i get my hands on optical flares, god have mercy!

April 12th, 2010 @ 12:28 am
People have commented about cinema 3d , Max , Maya etc. What I would say is this -it is not the tool but how you use it that ultimately matters. Many of us would have owned AE for a long time , but how many can use it as well as Andrew? The point is use the tool that you have!
April 15th, 2010 @ 1:16 am
Why don't you sell that ad to Loreal?
July 30th, 2014 @ 12:44 am
Really nice creative work. I work with After Effects on a daily basis and must say the plugin is impressive...
