VIDEO COPILOT BLOG News, Updates, Projects Files & Tips |
|

Well, I’m not back in California just yet but I managed to throw together an overview of my presentation at AENY. It’s nothing special but at least you will see a small bit of the action and at least one bad joke. I didn’t have access to many sound effects but I did have a copy of Pro Scores so it’s not completely boring in the sound department, although I only had about 30 minutes to do everything so I mixed it in AE.
I’m sure some of this will make it into a tutorial somehow but first I need to get back on my computer and my chair and my precious mouse pad. Laptops are a bit of a pain. The video might be a little washed out but I’ll re-encode when I get home.
I want to thank Jim Geduldick and Aharon Rabinowitz for all there help with the meeting as well as Dennis Radeke, although I know he had to be somewhere.
Most of all, I should thank everyone who came out and everyone who wished they could have. Doing public speaking is never easy but the group was great.

Of course you can get a copy of the amazing Pro Scores or one of the many great DVDs from our online store and help continue the search for Spider-Man.

Yea really nice. I wished I would be there. Well maybe next time
I can give you a tip on web head.
pm me
Wow! Great Video.
You are the best ( though I know you are sick from this line..
)
Consider this: If you were wearing tights and you would be spinning your web in NY city, wouldn’t you wear a mask?
Yeah Andrew you are probably sick of hearing people telling you that youre the best….That’ll tech you to be the BEST! HA!…I love what you did with the video, very kick ass…
Oh the last part made me laugh…..Im talking about Spidey!
Youre Crazy!…..
Im still rolling in isles…I dig your obsession with catching our friendly neighborhood Spiderman!
Thanks Andrew! and great to hear that your presentastion went well!!
Please do film more
that poster was hot!!!!!!
Great video !
wow man that was trippyyy so nice of u that u share that with u i loved it …. and i hope ull come back soon and give us the product u are working on…. GREETS FOR THE NETHERLANDS
Thanks Andrew..
Busy downloading the demo now, can’t wait..
South Africa must get their ducks in a row and start hooking up AE User Groups and functions…
You are crazy Andrew,
CrazyCool!
i never knew 2 simple photos could be made so entertaining! lol
and i agree – late panning to mimic a real person adds that extra touch of “realness” to the video…
Wow fantastic! would have paid lots of money to assist to that conference!!
Don’t quit you’ll catch’em… haha!
r’u going to NAB this year?? r’u having a stand there or something?? hope to see you there!!
Greetings from Montréal!!
Thanks for all, Andrew. You’re my teacher! GREA!t!
Really good video Andrew!! Would be awesome to get a tutorial from you of how to create those pans in still images the way you did to make it look like it was filmed.. I can never get it to look that good by simply panning an image from left to right, always looks really fake.. So a tutorial on doing that, or a point in the right direction to an existing tutorial would be great!
Keep up the awesome work!!
Great stuff as always!
Question: the city pictures used in the animation, did you stitch them to a panoramic in Photoshop, or is it video footage?
Thanks, Thanks, Thanks! We are all so glad to here the trip went well and we appreciate the video.
hey andrew have you seen the Call of Duty 6 trailer? i think the effect would make a cool tutorial
http://uk.ps3.ign.com/dor/objects/14281101/call-of-duty-6/videos/modern2_gdc09_trl_siberia_032509.html;jsessionid=aut0seni0pd55
Great stuff AK! Thanks for sharing and can’t wait for the tutorials! Keep up the AMAZING work!
That was awesome! gotta love the ending!
you made that stuff out of photo’s? nice!
like a 3d world in ae! very cool!
Andrew, thanks for sharing. PLEASE make a tutorial out of this.
Thanks for the heads up, And the vid looks great ![]()
I will be going to NY myself in Mai, you must know that I live it The Netherlands so its kindoff a big deal.
Btw, I hope to see spiderman there to xD hahaha
Great video to get me through the first day of a new quarter at school. Thanks!
King Tut: Be careful in the Big Apple. Looks like someone was watching over you!
Can’t wait until you find Spiderman!
cool stuff – i’d love to know how you did that with pictures…..
that looks very nice!!!
haha yes working on a laptop does really sucks!!! that’s how i make my videoes, and thats not nice, but it’s an alternativ…
But anyway.. Do you got a release date for the AE2 or just for the preview?
That would be nice
HAHAHAHA If I was filming, it might look like this:
“I want tutorials! Tutorials of Spiderman!”
-J. Jonah Jameson voice
haha nice spidey effect
cant wait for action essentials 2 preview
A tutorial on that spider man would be awesome xD
Cool,
I´m sure there will be another tutorial on how to create this light lines thing. Although there are a lot particle tutorials here, but they look great.
Really cool video…
like it
Awesome Stuff
Just a quick question was that spider-man made in a 3D program? or is it an image you’ve animated in After Effects??
Very cool, nice vid… Thanks!
wow!
wish i was there…
If there’s one in LA or SF, then I’ll definately come to that one, though.
Kai
That stuff is wicked! i recolor-corrected a simple prj i was working on… keep it up Andrew (Bruce Lee of VFX) he he he
was that really spiderman?
I didn’t know he was real!
Andrew Kramer: an artist, even in paint!
You Are so great!!!
Hey Andrew, awesome stuff, like everytime. Las, couldn’t make it, because living in France, but seems it’s been a lot of fun.
The color-correction you are doing are really great, in which tutorial could I learn to do the same ?
Al’
really liked the focus adjustment at the end where we could see “schmutz” on the lens. nice work, AK.
thank u Andrew!
very cool effect and video
The demo video was great. And I think I saw spiderman!?!
Ha Ha…Spidey WAS there…(knew it)
NY is very beautifully city, but joke about paint, again?that was stupid, sorry…
The MS paint demo wasn’t a joke… that’s what happened at the meeting. I saved the images from the meeting so people who were there could be reminded.
AK what a great trip, to come to NYC and take in the sites etc. Some of us spend our entire life trying to find that web slinger and you visit for a week and catch him on the camera !!!! lol
Nice…nice…maybe he will follow you back to Cali to fight Octomom ?!?! Isn’t that Doc Oc’s mom? oh wait…I’m confused..one has eight arms the other one has eight + kids…sorry wrong movie! hee-hee
You ROCK! Kramer
Spiderman! SNAG HIM NOW!
That was awesome! Please when you get back to LA do a tut on that fire ball thing and the color grading. I loved the pan it looked so real, how did you do it?
you are a killer Andrew this video is amazing simply amazing nice work
I hope I’ll do that in the future ^^
hahahah awesome man i love the MS painnt bit and the “if i was filming” AND the spiderman at the end!
well, basically i just loved it all HAHAHA….not funny
Hi from Poland
was the footage of the city, video or stitched panos?? i image you had your camera beyond the “dont jump of the building” bars, which means no pan head, right?
awsome stuff.This energy is awsome.
I love your sense of humor Andrew. That, mixed with your excellent video skills, makes for a treat every single time. I laughed out loud when I got to the part showing if you were the one shooting the video…very funny.
Looks like you even added a bulge of some sort on the photo when you were panning over NYC “looking for Spidey”. This clip just goes to show that even if you don’t have a video camera with you, it doesn’t mean you can’t create a “simulated video”. Excellent shots Andrew!!!
Awesome!
Thanks for sharing this video for those of us who couldn’t be there. I’m all the way in Alaska, so I didn’t have a chance to make it. Even if I did, the volcano erupting right now would’ve stopped me… well, at least the plane.
Andrew, I love the humor you add to everything. Whenever there’s a new blog post or tutorial on VCP, I know I’m in for a good laugh.
Thanks for all you do here, and I’m loving ProScores!!
Nice!!! McKramer (not McLovin!)
That’s funny and creative :}
Hahaha Briget’s Sexiest Beaches
Amazing video
AK,
Back when you were doing the 3d helicopter shots
http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/2008/08/3d-helicopter/
you mentioned that the background was not 3d but created using images and a “interesting technique”. Did you employ the same technique to create these videos from your still shots?
Hey Andrew i dont know if you saw my comment. but how did u make the spiderman?
Very cool, Andrew. Great video. Lots of fun and a cliff hanger ending! What more could we ask for while you’re still in NY?!
Have a safe trip home. Looking forward to more cool stuff.
jaja que gracioso que sos loco!
jaja what funny man!
i think most people underestimate what can be done in 30 minutes…this proves you can do a lot. great job. love the rack focus before spidey. haha
It’s me or that spider man is like 50 pounds fatter??? don’t tell me you send SAM LOYA dressed in panties to hang out in a spiderweb? nice design anyway!!!
If you were a girl I’d probably marry you…
Amazing stuff right there.
Hey Andrew,
Just wanted to tell you how happy I am with Evolution, The Bullet and Pro Scores. I already own Action Essentials so I only have a few more to go before I have the whole colletion! Thanks for the great products!
Kelly
Thanks for the autograph, Andrew Kramer! Your presentation was great and it was really inspiring to go out there a create some cool effects.
I kept waiting for Cloverfield to pop up and snag spidey.
Ha ha ha that was great. I hope you are having fun in NY. You finally got video of spidey this year now.
thanks. This is cool stuff. But was the city pan where spider man appears actually a picture and you used Horizon or you filmed it?
It’s great, but I have a question:
What did you do after you saw Spiderman? Didn’t you call the police? Hi, It’s AK, from Videocopilot.net and today we’re gonna take a special look at spiderman, yes I got him tied to the bed. xD Just Kidding, man, you’re AWESOME!!!
Sorry for my english…
When are you back in California, Andrew?
that video was awesome- perhaps a tutorial on the spiderman? brilliant as always
VERY COOL, KRAMER!
I apply the blur in yellow effect, since the image is blur.
seeyaaaaaaa
@ andi:
It looks like Trapcode Form, and maybe Trapcode Particular. I may be wrong, since I don’t own those plugins (though I so wish I did).
Nice vid, I was hoping for some videos/pictures of it.
-David
Waiting for your return… so we can see more work…
Great video and good filming by the way… ;P
All the NYC footage was still photographs?? Was that a series of stills photoshoped together or just one still?? If Photoshoped, did you use vanishing point or just masks in AE??
That was pretty amazing!
hahahaha, amazing…. spider!
To me, you are my superhero Mr. Kramer
i do my story boards in windows paint . i cant draw nothing but perspectives and stick figures . but its so quick and easy . glad im not the only one using it
great stuff, it would be so cool to meet you Kramer. I met Cosmo Kramer from seinfeld, but your funnier.
Gawd… I hate you! JK… But, seriously, you are one of the most talented and imaginative people I know. Although, don’t be too flattered cuz I don’t know too many people. hahaha
Great video Andrew, all sarcasm aside.
too funny, good work andrew, keep up the awesome work
i saw spidey! anyway Mr. Andrwew welcome back!
Mr. Kramer that was great can’t wait. is there somewhere we can get the video of the aeny?so we could watch it?

Wow, you can’t even tell those were photographs at all.
I’d love a tutorial on that, more so than even the fireball…
Cheers!
That was pretty damn entertaining, I must say. I give you kudos for makin tha on a laptop as well
Glad to hear of your great experience and relations. BTW your photo pans were very realistic
hahaha…that was funney..is that photo stitching in Photoshop? or you know.. real spiderman…
That was great. Someday Andrew you will catch that guy. Punch him in the mouth for me when you do.

That was a pretty big Spider-Man.
I watch him, but he’s free yet, when you gonna catch him Andrew??
Nice job with trapcode, can you give us more of that??
Thanx
Nise job!
Andrew, you can create a tutorial on working with the combined video? Thanks in advance!
This is really awesome man

Man I wish I was There… Such an Inspiration
hey Andrew nice hearing that AENY went ok! i wish i could be there but Cyprus is a little too far…:) great vid man i envy you! especially the work you did on FRINGE Titles awesome. i know this isn’t the right place but could you make at some point a tutorial based on fringe opening titles??? Always fan of yours,
Panayiotis
P.S
That guy really needs to chill out a bit (Spidey)
dude, you crack me up! I’m lovin’ all your stuff.
Back to your mousepad! You’re not still using a mouse are you??!! As much fun as carpal tunnel surgery sounds, do yourself a favor and get a Wacom tablet. You’ll never go back!
GREAT VID, HOPE YOU DO A WORLD TOUR ONE DAY, MAYBE DROP BY THE UK, SELL OUT A FULL STADIUM….
JUST AN IDEA.
ANYWAY, I WOULDN’T BOTHER WITH A WACOM UNLESS YOU ILLUSTRATE ALOT. I HAVE A TOP END WACOM – I COULDN’T LIVE WITHOUT IT FOR ILLUSTRATOR BUT AS FOR AFTER EFFECTS – I’D STICK TO THE OLD SCHOOL MOUSE.
“really liked the focus adjustment at the end where we could see “schmutz†on the lens. nice work, AK.”
I have to ask, this was put together with stills and you manually did the autofocus and pullout by hand?? It’s that attention to detail that’s sells a shot – Brilliant Andrew.
I would also like to know how you did the pan of the city using a photograph. It looked very video-like.
Thank you – looks rather interesting. I wished I could have been there too.
I learned that the rectangle tool in MS paint is very versatile.
Thanks Andrew!
Cool stuff! I am definitley going to have to make a trip out there next year. Although the midwest does have some good golf courses and steak houses
Haha that was AWESOME. Brilliant, funny and beautiful looking stuff. Yeah I’m gonna try to make it out next year too. I have family there anyway =)
