@lemetre is right, I have noticed that it always seems to cut my files short. I like the way Quicktime freezes on the final frame, but overall I prefer VLC.

vlc FTW! :)
i tried every player under the sun, but i keep going back to good ol' vlc.

no codec pack which potentially screws with your system needed, fast loading, recording/transcoding, efficient interface.

it lacks just one thing for absolute perfection:

is there a player out there that combines vlc's awesomeness with the frameaccurate transport of the (otherwise not so great) quicktime player?
i need a FAST starting player (like vlc) with which i can transport frame by frame either with the scrollbar or with the arrow keys.

so far only quicktime can do this. but it`s such an "apple product"... (slow, veeeery limited, costly - at least for the performance)
the only thing GREAT about it is said transport.

vlc has two major bugs/shortcomings:

-it can`t transport frame accurate as i need it to
-it cuts every file short! at least the later versions do, not sure if it did this always.

any hints to an alternative highly appreciated ^_^
thanks

Cool; I use it too. It allows me to get videos off YouTube and on to my iPod for free!

funnily enough, it plays pretty much everything but the default after effects render setting :p It will tend to get the channels wrong, though that may be my configuration.

I love this for playing MKV files and VOB files. It gets the different audio tracks, and even overlays the subtitles!
