Been Busy… for good reason

Well, it’s been quiet around here… a little too quiet if you know what I mean. On July 20th, a little after Video Copilot’s 3 year anniversary, a new version of the website will be launched. Some new features, a new layout and better integration are just some of the new things we have been working on. I’ll keep you posted and now that I have the main design work done you should see a little more going on around here in the mean time. Maybe a new tutorial even…

June 14th, 2008 @ 2:41 pm
Sweet, this site is just getting better and better. :)
June 14th, 2008 @ 2:48 pm
Sounds good, this websites always been rad the idea of it getting better excites me.
June 14th, 2008 @ 2:52 pm
Very cool.
June 14th, 2008 @ 3:00 pm
Hey Kramer, not to be ungrateful or anything... but what about those little tutorials you were talking about? It seemed like before we were getting a new "REALLY COOL" tutorial every week... then you said to kill time between big tutorials(meaning they weren't going to be coming around as often) you were going to give us little tutorials that focused on more basic techniques. Is this still something you are working on? Hey, even if you stopped altogether right now, we all would be eternally grateful, but just wondering.

Also, when are you going to show us some of the things you have in YOUR portfolio... professional jobs, we want to see what the AK comes up with when HE's under the gun!(AK=gun, Pun greatly intended)

June 14th, 2008 @ 3:12 pm

I'm with the can you make this site any better is beyond me.

You're the best.

Brad, stop whining.

Everything you see here is completely free (tutorials and presets). Not learning enough? Go learn it yourself. Read your After Effect's manual.

When everything is free, the only thing you can do is appreciate what is given to you.

Andrew's demo reel is in the Contact section.
June 14th, 2008 @ 3:24 pm
*Stands on table top*

Oh Captain, my Captain!

Looking forward to new everything.
June 14th, 2008 @ 3:27 pm
When can the new tutorial be online..
June 14th, 2008 @ 3:33 pm
Hey this is probably way to late, but if you have not looked at the content management system (cms) Drupal, I strongly recommend checking it out! Check out:

It allows you to do so much without having to code everything from scratch. It is a modular system, so what it is used for varies, but what it is used most for is great community sites.

It wasnt that long ago that the website was revamped and now we can look fwd to a new one. This site just gets better and better. I too hope for a forums page but with what Ak and the VCP team do already, who would moderate it.

Said it before and ill say it again, this site is by far the most user friendly in the wide wide world 'o' web. Free tutorials with an option to buy, with an awesome crew thrown in. We as the community are very lucky to have such if it takes a while before a tutorial comes up then it takes a just makes it that much more worth it when it comes.

So to those whining......dont bite the hand that feeds you :)
June 14th, 2008 @ 3:34 pm
Oh good. As long as you're busy its ok to be quiet.
June 14th, 2008 @ 3:35 pm
Wow, that will be your 3rd website if i remember correctly...1 for every year.

Would be great to incorperate a forum!
June 14th, 2008 @ 3:42 pm

Keep it up AK & Crew!

andrew, you really have helped me push my creativity with your tutorials. i really hope the site continues to grow, a forum would be a great idea, but it would need trustworthy mods.

Slightly off topic, but are there any fellow co-piloteers as excited as me in regards to the new red scarlet? (due early 2009)
June 15th, 2008 @ 4:44 am
Cool man. Hey Happy Father's Day! =)
June 15th, 2008 @ 5:23 am
Yeah! Happy First Fathers Day!
I'm not begging, but forums would be great. I always have questions. But it's your call.
June 15th, 2008 @ 5:49 am
Cool... Just can't wait :)
Sameet Ahmed
June 15th, 2008 @ 5:54 am
Yeah, forums wouldn't be too bad.
June 15th, 2008 @ 7:35 am
Hi Andrew,

I love your tutorials very much.
maybe this is not the proper place to ask you , I have the slight problems in my project. I had the 3d file rendered out in beauty pass and in color matte pass.(like RGB, CMYK and white)
I extracted the color pass using set matte filter so that I can individually color correct each part of my footage. But I am getting the unwanted edge gap between the mattes. Thats very annoying. Do you have the answer for this problem. Or tutorial for like this be the advantage for me.
Hoping to hear from you soon.
long live you and the VideoCopilot.

June 15th, 2008 @ 8:20 am
Forums would be good.... Not too expensive to maintain, either.
June 15th, 2008 @ 8:31 am
Good for the site, and Happy Father's Day!!!
June 15th, 2008 @ 8:41 am
I'm not speaking for Andrew but... I know he does not want forums, and I'm sure he has a good reason for it, I know it must be

1. To hard to maintain and moderate with everything he has going on!
2. No need for forums when you have a blog that seems to be working great!

I would also like to see a forum, but I also know how they can get out of control
unruly and down right a pain to maintain.

a 2 cents comment
June 15th, 2008 @ 8:48 am
yeee coool :D
June 15th, 2008 @ 9:03 am
I'd like to see forums. :)
tommie12P(Thorsten Miess)
June 15th, 2008 @ 9:20 am
yea forums would be great, really! even though there are the creative cow forums...
what I like to see is a chat, yea a videocopilot chat! that would be awsome!!!!
New desing? how do it have to look to be better than this?
June 15th, 2008 @ 10:04 am
I think forums would be great idea, but I would hope that the people who choose to make ridiculous comments and unreasonable, idiotic and repeated requests would choose to stay away and realize that this guy is giving us all a chance at better careers FOR FREE.

He sells us extremely valuable material for WAY less than it should and asks for nothing in return.

So please.... lets all just enjoy this place for what it is and welcome these new changes (whatever they may be) with open arms and eager laser mouses, WACOM pens, trackballs(or whatever)
June 15th, 2008 @ 10:15 am
Well you could always email Andrew. He'll eventually read it, and probably reply back if it's important and such.
Xavier B.
June 15th, 2008 @ 11:02 am
Check the blog rules:

5: "Do not ask or beg for forums."

I actually like the actual website design, I haven't seen the old ones though.
June 15th, 2008 @ 11:30 am
I know you say do not ask for forums.
But forums would be great.
I really dislike the way Creative Cow's forums are so much that I don't use them; i wish the forum was more of an actual board, I.E. ( )
June 15th, 2008 @ 12:06 pm
Congratulations Andrew nice news, fingers crossed guys :P please share your ae projects of all promos!
June 15th, 2008 @ 1:21 pm

so this post actually makes the post, know what blanks to fill in. Why bother me at all. I was simply asking Kramer what happened to those smaller tuts cuz I find them really informational. As far as reading the manual for AE, who here hasn't? AE manual doesn't show you how to be creative, AK shows us how to take what we learn to the next level and grow. If my appreciation for what he has given us and will continue to give us in the future hasn't been expressed thoroughly in the past to YOU, sorry you didn't keep up. I will say thanks for showing me Andrews previous reel. I wasn't aware that was the most recent one available.

Thanks Andrew.

Nice cant wait for new site lets hope its some kinde of Action Tut.

not that much into Intro and Stuff
June 15th, 2008 @ 5:46 pm
good idea Akiro the AE files, evolution is a good video promo
June 15th, 2008 @ 5:47 pm
Yeah, I guess that the presence of a forum would totally alter the current structure (and habits) of the website. I hope that there won't be any Sorry people! lol. I like the way how it is now. Its 'kinda' organized and pretty straightforward.

I totally agree with VFX-Anomaly and Xavier-B.

Nothing stops other people to setup a forum outside of the VCP domain. Maybe Andrew's webmasters (Patrick or Marc) could put a link on this website leaving the moderation to the people who really want a forum. How about that?

Well, very curious about the new website! I hope that the color scheme/palette stays the same! hehe.

Cheers everyone!
June 15th, 2008 @ 7:10 pm
hey andrew if you need help with it I would be glad to help. My company doesn't have any projects due soon so I can spare some time.
June 16th, 2008 @ 12:59 am

June 16th, 2008 @ 2:57 am

June 16th, 2008 @ 8:09 am
June 16th, 2008 @ 1:49 pm
A forum would be great : )
June 16th, 2008 @ 5:29 pm
Great stuff man!! Something that will help tremendously on the tutorials: SPACE BAR to PAUSE and PLAY the movie...That would be awesome, but I know you are flooded with other stuff... so whatever! What do you think of the new Sony PMW-EX3?
peace brother
Nikan Ansari
June 17th, 2008 @ 12:16 pm
Robin you should not ask for a Forum
June 18th, 2008 @ 12:55 am
A New website? Wow, I couldn't think it could get any better than this! Can't wait to see what you've got in store. Will you be changing the title banner from the glass shatter? If so, i know this really isn't the correct place to ask, but have you thought of a 3D tutorial on how to create that? Apart from that, video Copilot has to be one of the best tutorial websites on the web, and you're known throughout the world! Good luck to you and the video copilot team for the future, and hope the family is well. =D
