Good morning everyone! I am very proud to release The Bullet a new training DVD for AE & 3D Integration. This promo was a lot of work but certainly a lot of fun too. I’ll try to get an HD version out this week.
We have also released our Special Edition Tutorial DVD so you can bring Video Copilot with you anywhere.
Sam has signed a lot of cards and they are going to be sent out over the next week.
We are not delaying the download for The Bullet Product, as soon as your order is approved you will gain access to download. Although if you can bear to wait for the DVD it will help our server out.
If you need help with an order please contact support@videocopilot.net we will be standing by to help you. We won’t be checking the blog as much so please send us an email so we can help you. Also please note the Series One DVD is available on DVD only, if you need special download arrangement we can make limited exceptions, contact support for details.

Great work, especially the “The Bullet”-Promo!
I would be very, very glad if you could make a tutorial that deals with the Promo, just to give a little overview. Or take a closer look at only one scene…that would be great

If you are having problems with the download area, email support@videocopilot.net
Due to the new product release, the download server maybe busy, so please be patient as your turn will come
As for your download tries, you should start with 5, once the download is complete, then one try will be removed. If you run out of tries, email support an we’ll be happy to help you out.
Cool. I was watching some tutorials on your products and have noticed that you have a ton of police in them. Are these police to help you keep people off your sets or do you drive around looking for them?
WOW !!!
ive been waiting for this product since u guys announced it !!!
WELL DONE
HATS OFF TO YOU ANDREW KRAMER
greetings from pakistan
OMG!! speechless! nice promo trailer
ok hang on a second… 2 things.
one, i checked this site an hour ago and there was no new material… and now not only is there new stuff but it says that it has been up for a couple of hours…!?!?!
and 2… has anyone else noticed that the two new dvd’s have .95’s on the ends off them… what gives? all the other ones are nice and rounded off to whole numbers. what gives Mr. Andrew Kramer, if that is in fact your real name. Do you have something against the obsessive compulsive?
Shame on you sir. If I weren’t so happy that there are two new products I’d be very upset right now.
Andrew, you guys are the tops! I get highly motivated just by wathing your tutorials and this latest offering is no different. Keep up the good work and much success to you!
Check out the DVD Art Cover!!!
It has a 5 Start + 2 Circle rating. The rating comes from the famous A. Kramer himself.
Man this guy makes me laugh.
Ever thought of being Stand-Up comedian, Andrew?

Looks amazing!
I was wondering any of the critical elements to the bullet effects require any of the trapcode plugins, I would like to know seeing as I don’t own any of them
thanks!
If that’s your real name, why can’t I just use Photoshop, Andrew? As for the promo–it could work with the right audience.
Hey,
I have a question: All the people write that they are already downloading…when I order, can I load immediately? My Payment Method would be Visa.
Thanks for reply.
Stöge @ I LIKED YOUR VOODAAG VIDEO ITS AMAZING IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN DOWNLOAD THAT SONG ITS GREAT AND IF YOU CAN TELL ME WHAT CAMERA YOU USED .
Is there a tutorial for the title sequence used in the promo for the Series One DVD? That is precisely what I need for a project I’m working on.
if you look close! you can see when the bullet passes that the green garbage container in the back has no straigt lines. they are deformed!!! The rest looks cool
Looks amazing guys,

Hey Andrew,

Hey matt
I have the same problem. No download button. And no answert from the support center. but maybe they’re all busy. I hope I can download it soon.
My motto is:
BUY BUY BUY!!!!!
Better get download only or the wife will be mad when the Fed-x man brings more toys for me.

Hey Ak,
These products look amazing… can’t wait to get a hold of them! Hehe…. Just one thing you might want to know about : I was just watching the first semifinal of the eurovision song contest.. And all throughout “Belgum’s” song the stage was full of the evolution graphics.. (i’m 99% sure it was them) just wanted to let u know. So you can boast a bit.! Haha…
PS: The song was awful though…
hi great promo!!!
i only have a question you said than we can choose our destiny so may i use another 3d appli? like maya for example
Hey Andrew,
Thank you so much for these products, can’t wait to buy them, I have one question Andrew, do you use a compressor or another format for putting video in your composition and to put on web? cause the files aren’t that big and still has great quality!
I tried to use my own video in one of my project and it came really fuzzy and nothing clear like how yours appeared in the Series One DVD Promo.
Thanks
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!
THE WAIT IS OVER AND IT SEEMS LIKE SAM IS NOT IN CONTROL ANYMORE
HAHA
=)
Andrew, I love you guys every time you make a new product. I love this, will be buying in the next hour. Thanks man, just wondering, can i show this to my film and tv class? If no its cool, but just wondering. I think it would help a few people out.
Maybe this is me being impatient lol but are there going to be tutorials on how you did the promo? It looks great and want to learn the way of 3d. I have only watched a little of what i downloaded so forgive me if its in there.
looool “Actually we started VideoCopilot.net because..we couldn’t get VideoCopilot.com..” xD xD Andrew..you rock dude hahahaha
Owais…Aharon Rabinowitz has a guide to creating video for the web called
Internet Killed the Video Star. check it out.
General Ordering Question to ALL folks araound here:
It’s the first time for me ordering an product.
When I join to see the order-status, there’s nothing. Not “Pending” or anything else.
Is that good?
Oh, my, goodness. This is absolutely breathtaking stuff, Andrew; great job on The Bullet and the Series One compilation, both of which I have ordered. The introductory page for the bullet featured a very nice tip for rendering which I must also thank you for. No sense in having a quadcore unless it’s put to good use, eh?
Besides all that, I wanted to say: Happy 2nd Anniversary, Andrew! I hope you and your wife are having a wonderful day.
Can The Bullet tutorial be made in a outside environment like a park or anything, without a lot of extra work? Thanks
-Reid
Hey Simon have you heard anything yet i have still yet to here from support i have sent 2 e-mails with all my info hoping to be able start downloading
Patrick Otten if you can shed any light on my situation i would really appreciate it i’m dieing here

Hey Michel,
under “Contact” you can see that Andrew and VCP are using a JVC HD 200.
In an other Blog-Entry he said that he used “one of those fancy DoF-Adapter”
Regards,
Lucas

Hey Viky,
Thank you very much for that, I will be checking that out ASAP, that would really help me move on a bit more on making more complex compositions for my projects.
Owais

Quick question, it says create particles from scratch, does anybody know if Particular is needed for the particle effects?
AMAZING and ……..

No particular is needed.

You alone have revolutionized film productions guys! I vote Andrew Kramer and Sam for Vice prez in the 2012 presidential election!!!! Keep up the great work, GET A DONATE BUTTON UP AND RUNNING!!! as we all want to contribute to your works!
-James Cawley
In The Dark Studios
AK you are hilarious. I like your permit joke
The DVD is excellent. Instead of doing it with Cinema 4D and AE, I will be doing everything with Final Cut Studio, Shake 4, and Maya. Very powerful applications if used right
Keep up the great work!
Put in my order. Now I wait.
Happy 2nd Anniversary, Andrew! I here’s toasting your 2 years. My ninth is approaching in a month. There’s no turning back now! The golden idol is in my sights!

That is MAD MAD MAD…………………..Did i say mad……….
Hello Andrew and Team,
Thanks a lot for this stunning new training DVD, this is the 2nd product i bought from your site, and I really love it. I can’t say thank you enough.
Finally!! Oh yes — I’ve been waiting since you showed the ‘peak’ at AENY. Will order within the week! Sorry to be late but, congrats on your anniversary! All the best to you and the family — and the ‘immortal’ Sam Loya (there can be only one…)
It’s a great job, but why don,t integrate AE with MAYA

Hello
THX Mark & Andrew (sorry for my english)
I just come to download the bullet next Mark give me a URL (i needed a manual activation)
The product is very good (like the ” service after sale “)
Thanks too all from France
oh this is the only thing that sucks about being in Australia…getting in late.
(oh…apart from having some of the worlds…deadliest spiders and snakes, biggest and most aggressive sharks…the list goes on.)
I am having problem downloading. It seem when I enter my email and the code, it didnt do nothing, it kinda more like refresh it, it went back the same page.
ok i got it! But have to go to work now! Can´t wait to get home again to start the excercise!!!!! Hollywood, i´m coming! ![]()
greetings from berlin!
Vers
Hi Im looking for some help. I downloaded the 4 .rar files for the bullet except when i expand all but the first they just stay on “expanding flv tutorial”. Wondering if anyone knows whats up.
Thanks
wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
thanks alot
going to ask for buying it
http://after-effects.blogfa.com
Andrew,
I know that this may be a stupid question seeing as you listed the compatibility chart, but I’m BRAND NEW to 3-D (The rendering aspect, not the dimension. I’ve been living in 3-D for quite some time now!). I’m talking NEWBORN BABY new. I just got Maya 8.5 and the only thing I can sucessfully do is open the program. Oh, and move the camera. That’s it! I want you to be my 3-D first. (Oh, now THAT sounded creepy!)
All kidding aside, since Autodesk makes both Maya and 3D Studio Max, can these Tutorials be done in Maya as well? I sure hope so, ’cause I want to learn 3-D and I can’t think of anyone I’d rather learn from. Seriously!
Cheers,
Kal
PS. Happy belated anniversary!
hi Andrew how anniversary and nice work,i am having problem download the bullet .
the download keeps breaking and then restarting
@ Daniel & Allister
i had the same problem with expanding the rar files (2, 3 and 4). Switched to RAR Expander instead of Stuffit and it worked fine. Hope it helps.
Hi Andrew and VCP,
I just wrote a complaint to WEB,de – ALL of your eMails got in my Spam-Folder.
I read them now – I’m relieved everything worked fine.
And I’m so DAMN proud of having an eMail of ANDREW KAMER in my mailbox, with personal note.
Regards to Matt
Regards,
Lucas
This whole company is unbelievable. This tutorial is mad crazy. Nuff said.
Hi Andrew,
Firstly, thenak you for another brilliant product. Tremendous work.
A question please: what are the compression settings that you use to get such fantasticly sharp-looking high-motion flash videos into such small file-sizes on your website please?
Thank you, SamW.
Kramer,
I know you like to hear how great your products are…so here it goes: Yesterday, I was so excited to purchase the bullet and was shocked to find out that I didn’t have enough cash to buy it – so I went down to the fertility clinc, made a deposit, got an instant check and poof – able to buy the bullet. Now, I don’t know about you but that’s dedication!
lol – I’m joking! Keep up the great work
Mark
Dang, I just spent my last dollars on indiana jones tickets
Yes SAM, that is a good question!!!!!!.
Thanks Andrew (and all your crew), for everything!!!
How do I download after purchase?
No Maya love?
So sad.
Have seen the promo, i buy it immediately , now just start practicing . woawwww great product and so cheap thanks thx thx yeaaaaaahhhh
I promise one thing to Andrew, as soon as I start earning, my first e-shopping will be “the bullet” and the whole bundles of other VCP products.
Yes, honestly, I will miss all these gr8 stuffs till the buying time comes for me.
Videocopilot deserves our support & I will definately be one of them.
Really I dont know, how wud I countdown the days till I Buy all the VCP products.
Last line: I’m the biggest fan of VCP & all their gr8 Products.
Warm Regards
Sandy
Yeah, Sam’s the man for asking this question!
I think it would be essential to know how thats done (use of other software after AE etc.).
Hope Andrew will have the time to read this comment!
Happy Anniversary!
Maikeul
Wow Andrew! I ordered the DVD, and also downloaded the files. I was up until 3am, finally using Blender that as been installed on my editing system for ages, but couldn’t get my head around…
Now I have quickly made a realistic bullet and feel confident enough to use Blender for almost all of my 3D needs! What a great FREE product! They just posted ver. 2.4.6 (with hair system, etc.)
I own Lightwave 3d 9.5, but never much cared for the way it works. Blender now seems so straight forward and renders beautifully!
Thanx so much, your tutorial(s) made it easy!!!
(More Blender tuts, please!)
SWEET!
I feel like crying , wait a minute I’m already crying, this is the best day of my VFX Life.
I’m not sure about this. I’m intrigued no doubt & may purchase (as I have done before). But I’m just downloading the 3DS Max 30 day trial & then checked the price!!! Who is this ‘bullet’ aimed at? I might as well get straight into blender hey? Anyone who owns 3DS Max or Cinema 4D is in the wrong place surely….
*still pondering*
Hey Matt,
some Universitys are using 3ds Max, and when you buy it, you aren’t a master. I think there are much ways you can learn a program – here you learn a great integration with After FX.
Shure, every serious Owner of 3ds Max knows how to model this Bullet – but the DVD would miss something if for example Blender would have more Tutorials than 3ds Max oder C4D, don’t you think?
Regards,
Lucas
I want this product so bad, right now I am saving some money for this, I guest it is a good month for you, the delivery of an exelent product, the release of Indiana Jones new film and besides an anniversary.. Congratulations from Costa Rica, your fan Diego…
I’ve tried to install blender a lot of times but all I get is a black screen when I load it up. Am I doing something wrong?
I know this isn’t really the place for questions but I couldn’t find out anywhere else. Any help would be great.
Okay, sorry, but Andrew how should I read your response. You said:
“No particular is needed.”
Does that mean that Particular IS needed or that Particular ISN’T needed. I can’t tell if it’s ‘No particular” as in you don’t need it or ‘No particular’ as in No, Particular IS needed.
Thanks!
hello andrew. how did you blow up the bullet title in the promo for the dvd. Did you use
a 3d software or shatter in AE. I would really ike to know thank you.
I use VCP for all of my “videos.”
I think the bullet will work great for my next “shot.”
Thanks VCP!
^ You do not need Particular to do anything in the bullet
hi Lucas where do u study how to use 3dmax,this goes out this every one is it a good idea to learn how to model in a university or with tutorials .wat do u guys think
Tutorials are always a great way to learn a new application.
At least I think so. And learning by doing
thanks for ur response Malte ,i think am comfortable wit after effects majorly thanks to General Andrew Kramer and d VCP team.Am about to start wit my 3d but i dont which software to pick
Cinema 4d or 3d max
malte wat do u think
I feel kind of dumb, though computers can be tricky sometimes. I run a dual monitor system and if Blender is loaded on the left screen it comes up black and on the right screen it actually works. Weird I know, I’m gonna look more into that.
Hey Andrew…in the next life I wanna be like you!!
This Stuff Rocks!!!
Paolom
this is freaking awesome. I’m probably gonna use this is all my movies from now on.
BUT WHY NO MAYA TUTORIALS?
i’m ok with the ones on there, but i prefer maya.
Wow bullet is awesome! congrats!
Hey AK and others, check out my new zombie movie. Many videocopilot products was used in that movie.
Thanks Andrew for great products!
Hi Andrew and the VideoCoPilot Team i just bought the Bullet and it is incredible. Amazing work. i just wanna ask about the early 3d stuff that you have been showing ( the bridge, the fractured text) will there be something or it is a dead project. I have waited on it but nothing came. Will it ever see the sunlight?
Thanks for your creative inspiration.
This looks amazing. I’ve been going through all of the free stuff, learning as much as I can along the way. As soon as I feel I’ve gone passed the ‘beginner’ level, this is going into my library immediately. I’ve spent more on books that come with just a file of CDs. Thanks for all this! The work you guys do is amazing.
I would like to see a tutorial on that bullet promo video…cool looking. Bullet DVD is outstanding.
Man, this is a great product. Kudos to you guys!

Can someone help me.. In Blender, In my ray mirror I’m missing a lot of options that Andrew has. Mainly Gloss. How can I get these? All I have is RayMirror, Depth, Fresnel, and Factor.
Bwoogie,
Be sure to update to the latest version of Blender. They are new features.
The Sin City tutorial is available on the Series One DVD.
AMAZING, I spent my entire day watching this, I am honored to have my money in your wallet. I cant wait to see what you come out with next!!!!
Your skills with cc particle world are absolute genius.. im scared of what you would of done in particular ..
OMG!!!!
This looks so wicked!!
Once im in college and get those programs in my hand I AM SOO BUYING THIS!!!!!!!!!!!
just a few months away =’]
Ok! Thanks Andrew! That fixed it. I was one version behind.
I just watched all the bullet tutorials, like a blockbuster movie without working on it for myself! Very helpfull and entertaining. I love those parts where andrew is so into it, that he says nothin for about 20 second. Its nice to watch your workflow! And your Tips to keep everything organized! you are a great teacher! For real! Its great that you share all the secrets about postproduction from scratch to the final Result.
Are there other tutorials coming including 3d and AE? When i finnished my own bullet scene, im sure im hungry for more stuff like that!
Now im still waiting for the series 1 dvd! I ordered it via express, so i don´t need to wait for so long
Keep up the good work and thanks again for a product that is worth every cent of it!
Every one should buy it!
Greetings
Vers
How about AE integration with Maya for the next training DVD? Maya. XD
The only drag about being on the other side of the world is waiting for approval so I can download the product??? I guess it’s bed time for the VCP team?
Can’t wait to see what all the fuss is about…
Just wanted to say I love the Advanced DVD and can’t wait for more advanced DVDs with AE and C4D! Really nice job to all of the VCP team. Oh, and I saw INDY a few hours ago, WOW. Best Indy yet!
Wow! Very Good Tutorial
Fantastic training video – thanks very much VCP guys, you’ve outdone yourselves!
One question: will there be a forthcoming tutorial on the shattering/exploding 3D text effect from the promo video? That’s an awesome effect, too…
Thanks again for all your hard work.
I’m finally going to get into 3D animation now, but then there is the big question…
Cinema 4D or 3D Studio Max?!
Anyway, thanks for all the hard work Andrew! (And the rest of VideoCopilot)
There was a special fan screening of Indiana Jones. It was the first time the movie has been shown to the public. There is a video with impressions on indymogul.com. I thought I would see Andrew in that video. Apparently he was busy with the new products.
Here is the link to that video: http://www.indymogul.com/q-n-erik/episode/QE_20080522
@John Anderson, if it were me, I’d go for MAX, there’s more job’s out there… if not, try Blender – it’s the future!
Still waiting for download approval, hope th guys at VCP wake uo for work soon?!
EDIT: my silly keyboard drops out “E”s and converts “P”s to “O’s – sorry for th typos!?!
WOW!!!! Amazing!! Keep it up Andrew,
It always cool that we also found the 3Ds max stuff here, Thanks!
How was Indiana Jones? I had to build two prints of it but could not watch it. Had to work till 2:30 a.m. I was jealous that everyone got to watch it and I had to put it together. No fair.
awesome !!!!!
actually it would be a great idea to show the bullet flying in slow motion, then speed up and the bullet crashes into a wall, then use the shatterer affect in after effects that you showed on Designer Sound Fx and blend in a logo and i title, thats what i will do^^
great product
HI GUY,
QUICK QUESTION,AM ABOUT TO START 3D ANIMATION,WHICH WILL RECOMMEND
3DS MAX OR CINEMA 4D
Dezigner Soun FX, twitch & Action Movies Ecstensials in The Promo
Andrew how was Indiana Jones? I know you have already seen it
I just check out the Cinema 4D Part of the Bullet tutorial and it so amazing how good it combine with AE…. That is the ultimate proof that we have to carry on with Cinema 4D!!!!
For Everybody that likes Hip-Hop or to see a green screen project should check out my latest Music Videoclip which was made with After Effects and of course VC products http://www.efex.ch/content/view/17/37/
(P.S.: This clip may include swearing…)
Cheers
Go with Blender. Its free. If you must pay, go with C4D
i have the bullet, but i’m iffey on the other dvd, i’m working on a sin city style noir though, there isn’t any chance we could see what the effect gets you could we ?
Hello Bullet fans,
still working on my bullet but at the mean time as a fan and owner of the comic book wanted since 2004 .check this out.
http://www.youtube.com/clancy30
Yea Andrew, lets hear the review for INDY?! I seen it last night at midnight, lets hear your review and thoughts on the VFX?
wow the promo looks great!! please do a tutorial on how to creating the exploding effect. i love your 3d tutorials =) please do more 3dsmax tutorials like those you mentioned in the news from december. with the bridge… or did this idea die?? =(
greez
james caw. i like your presets for dark utah ,how can i get them ,your tutorials does not work.
Just got my copy in the mail Andrew of The Bullet and The Series One… thanks for the quick delivery. I love the behind the scenes feature. Very Fun!
Aaaaaaaaahhh
I cant wait for my DVD come
I already bought
the only thing that is bad is that it take a time to the DVD comes.
Hey all.
All these questions about the promo video…sheesh.
I believe it to be a simple explosion deformer in C4D.
Here’s how I would accomplish the effect.
1. create a text layer.
2. extrude the text, and texture it.
3. add an explosion deformer.
4. Key the position of the deformer to move through the text.
4. tweak settings to your liking.
5. render out and remap in after effects.
Or 5. Key the timing right in C4D.
Hope this helps….
Chris
I have seen Indiana Jones today! It was great but a bit weard! I like it but at the same time I was surprised with the story.
I just got the DVD thanks guys, and SAM thank you for the cover it looks great
this goes on my desk ,http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii18/clancy30/Picture-1.jpg
I would like to say that Mark Jacobs over in the coustomer service department is absolutely Amazing!
@EFEX
Why do you care of the swearing? It’s german, no one will understand ![]()
Nice Greenwall-work, but maybe it’s because of a high-quality greenscreen?
Mr. Kramer, you make great tutorials !!! I can’t wait to see what the next one will be, guarenteed buy from me! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication in sharing your knowledge so that others like me can learn and create great effects.
Thanks
My guess for the Promo Vid effect is Reactor in 3DS Max. I’ve only learned the basics of Reactor, but it is a very cool tool. I’m also guessing that may be the next tutorial from the VideoCopilot team.
@clancy30
For Dark Utah I just used the TWITCH preset GREENSTREET and keyframed it to sustain a constant color look along with Trapcode Particular and Form for the floaties… Get TWITCH if anyone has not bought it yet, it has millions of uses!
Love to see all promo action playback. The Bullet promo ending part I saw a “FACE” on the floor
Well I can tell you this. It is not going to be the next tutorial. It was done in 3D max. Not with reactor but with a particle system. I may discuss what was done but a tutorial may not be realistic because all that is involved.
@ EFEX: Great video! Have you used any other software besides After Effects? I like the look. Und VooDaag hat’s drauf! Erinnert mich in diesem Video stark an DMX.
andrew man i love your promos. there some of the best. but could i ask where do you get your soundtracks from? do you buy them make em or what?
We just used After Effects for this projects….
One of the most difficult thing was to get good background scene. Most of the images are from istockphoto.com…. what was a pain to collect but at least you can be sure that the quality is good enough.
A big inspiration was the Clip from Neil Stubbings Videoclip http://www.stubbings.ch/motion/6ergbehindscenesmov.html.
Cheers
By the link was a point too much…
FLASHGET is a piece of crap software…. all kinds of web pages open UNINVITED…….
you have to leave the point away in the end in the end of the link……
The Bullet Rocks man…. Lovin the tutorials as always. I especially dig the fact that you included blender. I woulda NEVER figured out 1/4 of the stuff you showed for blender.
Thanks for putting out a Great product as always.
Dear Andrew,
Your product “The Bullet” is amazing and very very usefull. But I have a question. Displacement map after bullet in promo doesn’t coincide with one in tutorial 7. The air flow in promo is more complicated and amazing. Can you elucidate in detail how you make it?
Thanks in advance.
Just saw Belgium peform at Eurovision.
Evolution in the background video???
Looked like it ![]()
Bwe
hi … i was just curious … why werent u able to get videocopilot.COM … i mean … its available
@ Jahanzeb Khalid: I think it was just a joke.
Hey EFEX,
ich bin eigentlich eher eine andere Fraktion – aber gibt es den Voodaag Song irgendwo zum Download?
Gruß
Lucas
AWWWWW MAN!!!!!!!! I almost cried when I read the promo wouldn’t be a tutorial. That is the coolest promo on here to date. Perhaps you could sell it on dvd or download….that promo just blew me away. If uncertain, take advance orders with a little partial payment up front to see if the money is worth making it.
Excellent, excellent job!!!!
@Bwe : Yes it is evolution i saw taht too ![]()
I am from Serbia
Hi, does anybody know how to do this burn transition?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqn8ta33Whk&feature=related
thanks in advance
@Runne: you could probably do it in AE, but this was likely done with stock footage of a film burn. Artbeats offers high quality collections of such burns; they make great transitions, but they are expensive.
If you want to do it in After Effects, play with twitch. Shouldn’t be too hard.
Once I’ve imported my bullet into AE, I keep getting this error when I scrub through;
RLA: Cannot read file – invalid RLE data ( 69 :: 14 )
Anyone know whats up? I’ve tried two renders of my bullet and sometimes it works, I save the project, reboot, reopen it up and sometimes it works, others I get the error. Its annoying!
-dave
@Pat Norman
The YouTube-Description says “AE and PS”. I don’t think this effect is that good, does not look really great…
Regards,
Lucas
The workflow tips are in the DVD are tremendously valuable, and will save me HOURS of time. Thank you
man,
please give us the download of that song on the begining of the tutorials of the bullet
thx felix
Once again you made my day….you wanna b my uncle
Thanks Andrew
Wow, talk about timing. If you want to see some pretty advanced possibilities of what you can achieve with Bullet, check out the new Russian trailer for Wanted. Here is the link:
http://www.filmz.ru/film/3448/video/
You want the top one (translates to trailer 3). It’s available in multiple flash and QT versions including HD. It opens with a bullet shot that is just stunning.
And yes, the trailer is in Russian, but I’m only posting it for the visuals. I bet we’ll see a similar US trailer soon.
Hope everyone enjoys it. And Andrew (and the rest of the VC crew), got my discs in the mail today. Amazing stuff as always. Best money I’ve spent this year.
Oops, the link I posted only has the trailer in QT format, if you want to watch a tiny streaming flash version, go here:
http://filmz.ru/pub/1/14256_1.htm
It’s the video just under the picture of a wrapped present. Beware, it was really choppy for me. Apparently my connection to Russia isn’t very fast.
does any one knows how to put the camera traking script in to blender program directory .please help .
@ Lucas: yeah, i agree with you that this particular flash isn’t really impressive. mainly (imo) because it doesn’t transition to anything. like anything, it’s not the tool but how you use it.
@clancy
There are Install Notes.
“Blender Foundation\Blender\.blender\scripts”
@Pat
That’s my opinion too. When I read it, I thought of cool fire burning down celluloid
I think you can get better results with Twitch or some stock footage of Action Movie Essentials.
I got some Stock Footage from a guy from Switzerland, he has great fire footage. Maybe I’ll try to make some nice transition
right on. package showed up today in great shape.
these dvd cases are nice.
Bought the Studio Pack! Great pricing for what you get. Keep up the amazing work.
Best Wishes,
Alex
Hoping someone could help with a easy fix to something in 3d studio max. I dont know anything about 3d max and somehow my settings got messed up. When I right click on a object to change its scale or even move it, it does not give me the normal x,y,z arrows. So there is no little triangle to put my cursor in to scale the object. So when I do it is not uniform. How do I change this. Please help.
Hey Andrew,
just letting you know that Activision used your designer sound effects in their guitar hero 4 promo.
check it out
Hey Andrew Kramer and VCP Freaks,
Great DVD, but here is an important hint for the tutorial!!!
I just tried to do my own Bullet FX shot. One Guy shooting at another guy (180 degrees).
After shooting my own footage it didnt work right, the perspective of the scene was somehow distorted. I had to let the bullet fly a curve to hit the right spot.
Now I found out what the problem was: The Ground we shooted at has a small slope/gradient. The actors where standing 10 m away from each other, because of that distance and the gradient, the Bullet couldnt fly straight and hit right.
Conclusion: Buy the DVD, and then shot on an absolute even space, or your bullet has to fly really strange!!!
Loved the special edition dvd, and the bonus features. Andrew man, you are one funny guy. But PLEASE, we need more TINO!
at Illd, that sounds so obvious, you have to know in a best case scenario you shoot in well measured conditions. not semi-professional – this will be good enough-
so in that extend you’ll always have to do some tricks to get it all work
oh and now we’re at it: kramer?
maybe time back for some tutorials, often i feel this is more & more a supermarket, no offence
“More and more a supermarket”? Sorry PE, I don’t follow. Do you mean that there have been a number of product releases in the past several months and so therefore the online store is very prevalent?
“Maybe time back for some tutorials”. I’m still lost on this. What about all the tutorials on Bullet? What about the 5 tutorials that have been posted since April 1st?
Maybe I’m just not understanding what you mean. If so, I apologize.
All I know is that I just got more than 60 tutorials for $25. The fact that Andrew continues to post free tutorials at all (let alone 60+) literally astounds me. I would have paid three times that much and still considered it a bargain (and other sites would have charged that much…and they never would have put up so many free tuts to begin with).
PE, if only you knew what we were shooting today… Sometimes we speak a little too soon.
This next tutorial is only possible because of our great customers, when you see it, don’t thank me thank them. I personally thank everyone of my supporters for allowing me to do what I love.
Looks great Andrew. As always.
Btw, are you going to or have you aldready have watched the new Indiana Jones movie?
Keep up the good work!
/Alex T
Hi illd,
I shot some Footage too, trying to hit another person. It was a very nasty place, and the ground was not flat, that was obvious.
But I tryied to shot anyway, I’m a 3D-noob, so I wanted to try if I can shot the (it was me
) by myself.
I have problems preparing the Footage (a friend of mine has a new AVCHD Cam, it’s sort of an accident using this kind of format :-X ), when it’s done I’m making the Footage.
Regards,
Lucas
@Jason: [http://www.videocopilot.net/blog/?p=187#comment-46801]
Sounds like you’ve accidentally disabled the gizmo.
Press “X” to toggle the transform gizmo apprearance (on and off). and use “F8″ for direction constraints. Each F8 keypress will toggle you in different axis.
3dsmax has quite a few hotkeys. Select: Help > HotKey Map… to get an overview of the available hotkeys and combinations.
Hope that helps.
@sicu: Thanks so much. Like I said I knew it was something easy but I am very unfamilar with the program. You have saved me a lot of frustration. Thanks again.
Andrew, how did you like Indiana Jones?
@ Lucas:
I´m sorrry to say this, but besides your avchd issues,I think you get big problems with your shot in 3d space.
The place I shot had just some degrees of a gradient. In the middle of the AE camera move, the Bullet was already above the virtual camera. If you adjust the AE camera then you´ll shoot over the head of person 2, if you adjust the path of the bullet (which is also very crucial without no reference in 3d apps), it looks totally wrong (it flies a curve).
Best thing would be you shot the footage new on an even, flat ground.
Good luck!
Andrew. I’ve seen a few people referencing Maya compatibility (I’m one of them), and you haven’t answered yet, so I’ll ask again point blank:
Do the “Bullet” tutorials work with Maya?
Thanks for all the great tutorials and products. Continued success to you. YOU ROCK!
The principles for the work done in 3d for this shot are all very similar no matter which application you choose to use. If you are at all familiar with maya then you could use it to complete the 3D elements.
@Kalel
There are no maya tutorials on the dvd. I expect if you are good in maya then you could adapt the techniques used in the max tutorials. The fact that Andrew used three different programs to achieve the same result illustrates that the shot can be made in any 3d program. He just doesnt show you how to do it in maya specifically.
Hi illd,
it isn’t my AVCHD-Cam, I wouldn’t buy such crap. But my miniDV Cam is from 1998, and these new HD-cams have just amazing picture-quality. It was a test anyway.
I knew it wouldn’t be that easy, but I thaught, I just make some footage of my falling to the ground, when I had the chance (my friend and his camera will go to Africa soon, VOX makes a show about him
). I already thought that it won’t be that easy… anyway, even if it flies a circle, maybe nobody will notice
First of all I thaught of making it a little bit funny: the bullet flies and flies and flies, a perfect circle, and hits his Shooter. Haha
Regards,
Lucas
I did my first attempt with the bullet and my goal was to get the bullet to after effects , i did that which was the hardest part for me ,now i;ll take more time in making a perfect wanted bullet.
but if you guys know what kind a texture i can use for a silver bullett with carvong on it let me know.
OMG andrew! Your The Man! Pass Ur Powers to Your Children ^^
AVCHD isn’t crap. Once you get the hang of it, its an awesome format perfect for the average consumer. I had my camera for over a year now and its awesome. It works perfectly with Final Cut Studio 2 , and composites well with my 3D applications.
For those who are wandering if the 3ds Max tutorial is the same as Maya, its not. Maya is a far more complicated program that takes years to learn. If you have experience with it, then I’m sure transitioning any of the provided tutorials would be easy for you, otherwise, don’t bother unless you really want to learn it.
P.S. Very few applications handle AVCHD natively. If you want to use it in AE, import it into Vegas Pro and convert it. For Mac users, Final Cut Pro will automatically convert it when you Log and Transfer directly from the camcorder.
I work with Premiere Pro. NO Software Player can play AVCHD (nor WMP, nor Rules Player, nor MPC, nor VLC) from Canon on my PC. It’s terribily compressed, so you get artifacts… Premiere can handle it, I had to convert it with some Panasonic Software to DVCPRO HD. Then I used Premiere to get it uncompressed, to use it with After Effects.
Even if AE could handle DVCPRO HD, it’s crap! With every transcoding you lose quality.
Awesome format? Yes, the H.264 is awesome for final works, for Internet. But not for cutting or something like this.
Average consumer? WHICH “average consumer” buys an software like After Effects for thousands of dollars, to play around? That’s simply ridiculous. I got a fast PC for working effecient, not for giving the half of hardware-capacity to some crappy format like AVCHD.
Just my two cents.
Series one dvd arrived today! its great! enjoyed the bonus stuff. would have been cool if you had a couple more exclusive tutorials though. cant wait 600 more tutorials for series two! AHHH! lol
can you show us how you did the particles in that interview ? please
hola que tal, mira yo tengo muchas ganas de comprarlo, pero necesitaria subtitulos en español como para aprender bien las cosas y no solo mirando, podria ser? contestame al mail por favor, gracias
i got my dvd today thanks cant wait to get started on the tutorials
Has indiana jones come out yet?
check out my blender WANTED bullet.
http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii18/clancy30/blender2008-05-2414-11-46-51.jpg
WANTED bullets rocks
The Bullet promo was made with PArray.
In 3dsMax just go to Tutorials…
and search for “explosion”
there is a 2-hour tutorial about Particle arrays…
Explode whatever you want
Kind of SHATTER in AE,
but cooler.
Anyway, I’m sure Andrew’s tutorial about this will be much better!
Enjoy
Elad.
Hey we should make a movie just like the new indiana jones movie. Only, instead of trying to find an artifact, the greedy nerds kidnap you and force you to show how to do some cool thing in ae or blender, that only you would know how to do. Only pretend kidnap, not really kidnapping you, oh crap, what have I said? Please don’t have me arrested.
Ok good sir. I came, I saw, I bought, I’m watching, and I’m utterly blown away with the bullet. Thanks bunch for making this because it helps so much and the possibilities really are endless. It’s amazing how that 3-4 second shot is comprised of sooo many steps and layers and tweaking and so on. It really opens the eyes to how extensive the vfx process is in general. So anyway bud thanks a million.
@clancy: nice!
@ Lucas: Its true that AVCHD is not supported natively, but when encoded properly, it is the best quality camera at the cheapest price. I’m sorry it doesn’t suit your needs, but instead of complaining on how many flaws it has, go buy a camera worth well over any AVCHD camera. It may not work for you, but it works very well for me.
I am going to the movies now , I want to see what have they done with Mr jones.
See u guys soon keep making bullets .
Hmmm. Someone should make an ice bullet.
Hey, Andrew, did you watch this “Wanted” Russian Trailer. The bullets inside makes me think of your bullets DVD….
http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/05/23/wanted-international-trailer-kicks-ass-red-band-style/
highdefw HOW R U,
I HAVE PROBLEMS WIT THE AVCHD FORMAT,PLS ADVICE
If you read the original post on this DVD you’ll see it was partly inspired by this Film.
just got back from watching indy ,
now i want to tell you that i was the first one to know about wanted i had the wanted comics back in 2004 and i said to my self at that time this will be a cool story if they make it a film and there you go ,i cant wait .
Hi Andrew, can you please give us a hint on that boardwalk from the promo? I like the texture and lights. Is it all done in max? Very good texture. What render engine do you use?
btw, somebody mentioned eurovision song contest. I am also from Serbia and I saw a commercial of local sponsor “Maxi” during the contest which is 100% your tutorial Earth Zoom (40) only in reverse, and done a bit worse. Even the clouds are on the same place. So two conclusions: 1. somebody is making a nice money on the knowledge you give. I just hope you make some as well. 2. I always thought of your tutorials (and tutorials in general) as a hints and ideas to experiment and modify, not exact receipes you should steal and use it as it is,
Damn it people, if you are not creative, work in a bank, don’t make motion graphics!
Thank you Andrew!
Hey Andrew,
Nice dvds, i’ll have to save up for them
I just saw the new Indiana Jones movie, really awesome isn’t it, got a gr8 ending
Later
Hey Andrew! Just Purchased series 1 from the here fine website! Thank you so much for all the tuts you have made available!
p.s – Adobe should give you a comission or something, cause if it werent for you HALF of us wouldnt even you After Effecs.
YOU MAKE IT POSSIBLE
@highdefw
A Canon HF100 costs as much as an HV30, picture Quality isn’t worse, and perfectly editable. Yeah, it’s HDV, but you use it.
The cheapest price isn’t a reason for a bad format you can’t work with in a clean workflow. And that’s priceless.
You may guess why all of the expensive cameras are HDV or any professionell format (like DVCPRO HD) or something else, but not AVCHD. Panasonic trys to establish this format in “professional” environment (these cameras look so cheap…), but I think it will be the next April-Fools Day joke.
Regards,
Lucas
Andrew, Oh I missed this very last line at the original post… Sorry about that.
“PS, this clip was inspired by the trailer for the film Wanted.”
Really love all your stuff and I am big fan of your blog.
Andrew you are master for AE, i need help.
When i try to install AE it say Currently Installing Shared Components and there it stops and want continue.
Please help i want to try BULLET!
I bought both The Bullet and the Series One DVD and within the first 5 hours after they arrived I had watched the entire Bullet DVD and all the bonus stuff on the Series One DVD.
Great job you guys.
Ok. Day 2 of having THE BULLET. If anybody has any doubt as to if they should by this or not. DO IT. It’s money well spent. You can take any of the steps shown and apply them to so many other ideas.
I can’t blab enough about how awesome and eye opening it all is. Wow, I sound like a movie review huh lol.
“…Sam Loya is breathtaking in his performance.”
– The AE Times
lol
My bro bought the DVD – AWESOME!
for those questioning AVCHD, try MediaStudio (Ulead/Corel) it’s so much cooler than Premiere, always has been…
If I had the money I would buy me a red camera: http://www.red.com/
Wouldn’t mind being able to capture with a super 35mm cine sized (24.4×13.7mm) sensor at 120 fps with wide dynamic range and color space in 12 bit native RAW. Sigh! Slightly outta my budget range, but I will keep dreaming :p
Hi Noddy,
I will never use such lamer-software like Ulead, when I have some professional tools
by the way, MSP don’t work with Vista. It’s not my problem they can’t make software working with my machine
Regards,
Lucas
Vista doesn’t work with Vista.
Anyways just finished watching Bullet and I’m pretty sure it’s over my head. I’ve been avoiding 3D for a while now because it seems too complicated. So much so that even the guy who made After Effects manageable might not be able to simplify enough for me to use. Still I’ll follow step by step soon with Blender and see what I get.
On a different note reading the comments on your blog posts gave me an idea. I would love it if there was a section just for people to post there effects tests. So you could see what people were doing and how successful the tutorials are being. Just a thought. Keep up the great work Andrew!
Hey Andrew,
when will the new tutorial be released?
I need something to do until I have my “The Bullet”-copy
Ulead MediaStudio cooler than Premiere? Lol. I’ve used MediaStudio, Vegas and Premiere. I think Premiere together with After Effects is the best solution. But if I had to choose between MediaStudio and Vegas, the latter one would win.
Off topic- but I used Twitch for the effects in this music video.
Check it out.
Vista is a very good OS, if you can handle it. ![]()
If you aren’t able to configure XP right, don’t mess with the Vista. I’m using it since November 2007, the first day I felt like killing some one – now I like it very much.
Regards,
Lucas
Just saw Indiana Jones 4 today!!! Its was soo awsoome!
VLADIMIR…I am from Serbia also…I saw that awful commercial for MAXI.I didnt know should I laugh or cry
can my product that i order wednesday(3-5 Days) arrive where i am on saturday, sunday or monday?
The Bullet was Great. As usual your Promo’s are awesome. I would like to see a tutorial on your promo. You have so many effects with sound and visuals. Keep up the Great work. thanks for your time and effort.
Andrew, I have a problem when rendering in blender…when i hit F12 i only see a sillouette of the bullet on a blue background. Another thing is..when i hit set smooth..
the bullet would have black rings? around it. Someone help me.
Hey Andrew, you know the score for the Bullet promo? Did you use Designer Sound FX to create it? Because i could swear that the first sound is from the beginning of “Ghost Train” in Ambience. Just wondered what the other soudns were if they are from Designer Sound FX Cus i cant find em ![]()
Cheers
Steve
Auffique, send me an email at support and I can help you. You may need to add lights in the scene…
Yup…thanks. I’m still very very new at 3d so…..
Thanks for replying too..never thought you would.
Cheers from Malaysia!!(Next to Singapore & Thailand – FYI)
great stuff! good product!
especially the blender tutorials. im owner of adobe cs3 production premium license but 3D software like 3ds max od c4d is too expensive for me. i will now use blender if i need 3d cgi.
thnx.
OH…and… sam rulez!
Hi Andrew
Great DVD!
Is there a chance you can show us how this amazing 3d explosion works that you used in the promo? (for all 3 apps Blender, Cinema, 3ds)
In the Cinema 4D Part, you used a sphere with a Render Tag for the reflections on the Bullet. I think an easier way to do the same is, to use the environment channel for the bronze material.

No specific Maya info? CRAP!!! I just got Maya and have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA how to use it! Andrew, in the future, can you PLEASE include Maya info as well? I know it’s an extra hassle, but I think that alot of us would REALLY appreciate it! Oh, well. I’ll still get “The Bullet” DVD and the “Volume One” DVD. I KNOW I can use the AE tutorials, and I’ll learn Maya soon or later. I tell EVERYBODY about you site! Thanks so much!!!
what you fail to realise kalel is that Maya costs about $4500, and as ANdrew already has Cinema 4D and 3DS max, there is no point him spending so much for something he wont need to use…
I think I’ve figured out the promo video (it’s been bugging me). Was it PArray? Keep up the great work!
This is amazing Andrew, great job man. I love ur DVD. i just want to ask u something . I would like to know how u done this amazing title animation in ur promo , im looking forward to know how to do it .Thanks for everything Andrew
First off, I want to say a huge thanks for all the great products and information and we would buy them 2 or 3 times for all the value they have provided our company. We began as a video production company and have begun to do a great deal more post based on the learning that has occurred from this site. The one barrier we have reached is in starting to need to do more 3d work and we are beginning to see the limits of the 2.5D that After Effects offers. While it does spectacular things we’re beginning to need to evaluate 3D programs and which is best in short term, long term, etc. I wondered if a blog post might be appropriate with your thoughts on the various 3D programs (3D Max, Cinema 4D, Maya, Blender, etc.) and how to approach evaluation and purchase of a 3D product for motion graphics, compositing, etc. I know our company would benefit greatly from this.
Legacy:
PArray is a particle system in 3DS Max.
U can use it to produce particles FROM an ojbect.
One of its benefits is that the particles can be parts of the object itself.
this is how you can Blow up stuff…

3d BULLET AND SHELL CASING BLENDER +AFTER EFFECTS .
Great product is anyone if considering buying this product buy it I have it and it is incredible…this is my favorite product yet I wish andrew would offer more products like this with extensive tutorials
Is The Bullet DVD also going to include the 3D shattering Text effect? I read on a different forum that it doesn’t. Can you put the 3D shattering text tutorial online for free? I would greatly appreciate that…..
thanks..

hi Andrew,
love ur work man u guys r too good. i have on question if i shoot some footage with sony Z1 will i be able to make it look like a film quality in the post production
hey andrew,
if you make another 3d tutorial will you be including the same 3d programs?
Totally awesome. Love the technique of building out the 3D scene in after effects, with the images stiched together. I can see myself using that in the future!
But perhaps doing a 3D tutorial for Maya? I know that program is a lot more complex…I like 3DS Max better personally.
And perhaps a tutorial on Rendering videos. I’ve done alot of video wor in after effects. But I always get bogged down by render problems. Not having another memory, or…Buffer size. All that stuff. And I was working on less complex stuff that this bullet tutorial.

I made that with the knowledge I’ve received from your tutorials…but…rendering was an absolute NIGHTMARE!!!!
Love VCP so much…….

ordered the bullet tues…. here thursday!
its very nice
worth every penny!
I just got this–great discussion of ae 3d camera card set up–I
feel doing the 3d in 3 programs was overkill–although you
could make an arguement for blender as is free. I wish there was
some dicussion focusing on comping 3d fx–perhaps in a future title?
Also, a lot of project organization ideas that become more important
in larger comps with mulitible precomps. two thumbs up.
Just got my bundle and to start, I’m very happy with the initiative of including the videos for Ipod & had a lot of fun with the 19mins Q&A video. Thumbs up! Thanks to the bullet once can decide what 3d soft better fits the need.
Keep it up!
Awesome! The best Blender tutorial I’ve ever found! And the ONLY tutorial I’ve found that shows how to composite a 3D model in After Effects. I’ve learned more in the last 24 hours than in the past 12 months. Keep up the good work.
Prepare for the jump to z-space.
Absolutely fantastic – exactly the effect I was looking for and to incorporate Blender in the tutorial has saved me a bucket of cash and heartache.
Well done!
Awsome just got my THE BULLET dvd IN THE MAIL TODAY WITH A SIGNED CARD FROM SAM.
To good to be true…thanks guys it really made my day..
cheers
peter
Great DVD
Dr House, Season 2 Episod 20
There is a very cool bullet effect, very similar to yours
But, it is more evolved, the bullet coming into the head of a man after the slow motion effect
I bit the bullet and bought The Bullet… WOW
while I probably already knew 80% of the techniques, what was worth double the price were the tips and shortcuts. How to work fast and efficiently without sacrificing the production quality. I’ll be back for more!
Andrew, will you ever be working in Modo, too? Max is not cross-platform and Modo is really up and coming. Would love to see future integration with Modo.
How come whenever I use time remapping my picture quality drops and looks all shaky? How do I fix this?
Send me an email at support and I’ll help you out. Thanks.
Great work as usual, thank you.
First time trying Blender (im not much of a 3D guy and never managed C4D…) an found it surprisingly good.
Best regards
Hi Andrew !
Is it possible to put a customize value into the camera in after effects ?
Because you put 15mm to have a perfect panoramic, but on my cam there is written 43.2 mm (??) and i cant select it.
Thx
(Sorry for my english, i’m french)
Its so much easier to motion track instead of making the cameras from scratch and trying to match them. 0_o
