@mike: that's what i was after, a little distortion of the drops. how'd you implement it? looked nice.

This raindrop tutorial helped me out so much!!! Because of Andrew's tutorial here on the use of CC Mr. Mercury, and Video Copilot's Real Clouds I was able to actually, and finally, produce a very realistic tornado scene, all in AE, only with AE, Real Clouds, CC. Mercury and some actual tornado sounds. Thanks so much! I'd love to show everyone how I did it.

Actually, it was raining yesterday, so i looked out my window, and it looked almost nothing like this effect, inverted or not. at least when it was out of focus. There are all kinds of geometric shapes made by the light that i have no idea how to fake.

I think we're pretty much in agreement at this point anyway.

nico, are you talking about chromatic aberration? your second picture looked good, even though the effect was exaggerated. how'd you make that, anyway?

Hey charles, I'm assuming that the convex lens in your example is representative of a water droplet on the lens. The "focal length" o the water droplet would be incredibly small (thus the 'wideangle' look you get through them), so everything would be flipped if it was on the lens shield of the camera.

Having the sky in the road and the road in the sky will look realist ONLY IF you see the edge of the road or the sky meeting each other in the droplets. If not, then I agree with what you said. Otherwise, the inversion adds to the realism. Try sprinkling some water onto your window and then look at them. The inversion of the image makes it seem very real.
