New & Improved Website
Welcome back to a few new features and a lot more content. Our website is now on it’s own dedicated server so hopefully we can handle all you video junkies. The ground work has been laid for future development and continuous content for everyone. Special thanks to Marc Biorklund and our very own Patrick Otten for their knowledge & support.

Enhanced Tutorial Section

Our tutorial section is now database driven and much easier to update. It also has a pretty sleek appearance. (If I do say so myself.) You can search for keywords and leave comments directly. We’ve added more footage downloads to some of the older tutorials as well. You can also pause/play the tutorial by clicking the screen. Now that’s high-tech!

New Tutorial: Audio to Animation

We also have a fresh tutorial for you today and plenty more to come. There are many surprises to follow…

Free Basic Training Series
We now have a complete training series for After Effects users of all levels and the best part is, you get it for FREE. Enjoy all 10 video tutorials ranging from the basics to advanced tracking and animation. This one has something for everyone.

9 Free Animation Presets
Don’t miss this! We’ve added a new section that includes Free Animation Presets for After Effects. Not only do you get the preset but there is also a video demonstration to show you how to use it. Some of the presets are so amazing you’ll have to see for yourself.

I love the new site Andrew. And by the way I am glad I ordered the DVD BEFORE 20% discount, because I am so pleased with the "Serious FX". It was worth it!

September 17th, 2007 @ 1:07 pm
absolutely amazing !
September 17th, 2007 @ 1:12 pm
Great new site look. And with loads of extra features too. Cool.

Only trouble is the view count of most of the tutorials reads sort fo false. Only 20-odd hits for some of them. Now that's a fib! I feel you should be justified in pushing the numbers up a bit on some of the earlier ones.

Damn meeeeen! this is really ANDY-mazing. Great stuff and I'm feeling the Vista touch right now...Give me a moment to bask in this........(10 mins later) This is good, this is really good. Wow great site. Love the presets I would buy another dvd but I already have all of them!
September 17th, 2007 @ 1:42 pm
Go buy the great products!! And check out what I did recently. My friend and I were messing around and wanted to film something so we just filmed a random scene where he gets shot. All the blood and everything was added in in AE. I used Action Movie Essentials, Riot Gear, DSFX, and Film Magic Pro. There are two different color corrected ones up on you tube. Check them out and let me know what you think. And BUY these great products. Andrew let me know if you think this is decent. It involved A LOT of rotoscoping. Which I now officially hate.
September 17th, 2007 @ 1:44 pm
Awesome site!
September 17th, 2007 @ 1:52 pm

September 17th, 2007 @ 2:27 pm
Andrew! Nice work, this is truly just amazing. I must admit, on the surface, it doesn't look like a whole lot has changed, but after searching through the site there's obviously been a lot of hard work put into some great new content.

The basic training series is brilliant. Everything you need to know. For FREE!! Absolutely amazing.

The videos on integration with FCS2 are great too... very helpful for folks like me.

I can't wait to check out all the animation presets and start using them.

Nice work dude!
September 17th, 2007 @ 2:29 pm

Dude, The New Video Copilot is SICK, i love everything about it. Thanks for all that cool stuff. Keep it up!
September 17th, 2007 @ 2:36 pm
This is so great, I don't know how often I refreshed the page today since coming from work. It is all very amazing. I am really thrilled about all the new content. Even though I think I am (thanks to your Tutorials ) not an AE beginner, I will nevertheless enjoy the basic training. I love the preset section and am looking forward to all the new tuts and all your future products (as an aspiring horrormovie producer it would be great to get an "Horrormovie Essentials DVD" with lot's of gore and decap tuts;)).
I think I'll have to talk with my boss about taking a few days off:D

Amazing. Will be purchasing asap
September 17th, 2007 @ 3:28 pm
I actually was in my commercial multimedia class when I posted
the previous reply on the blog, and right when I submitted it, my
teacher said that if she catches me on the Internet again
I can't use the computer for the rest of the year.

Anyways, we don't do anything in that class...what a waste
and I'm the only one who knows about VideoCoPilot and
one more person that won't tell anyone.
September 17th, 2007 @ 3:47 pm
Whoever said that being born an Englishman was like winning the lottery of life was an idiot. I had to wait until bedtime for the update - damnit! If I was in LA now I'd have the rest of the day to muck about on AE! Anyway, thanks Andrew! You are the best.
September 17th, 2007 @ 3:49 pm
Hard to believe you could have improved the site sooooo much and added soooo much more content as well!! Congrats mate, good job. (you are having a big couple of weeks!!!)
Cheers from Oz

BTW a tutorial on making a large open 3d space would be great. For example walking into a stadium built from stitched photos that wrap properly in a circle?

September 17th, 2007 @ 5:08 pm
My God, so much happening, so less time! Just downloaded all the presets, commented about them, saw the music animation tutorial, and everything's just brilliant! Great site, great tutorials, great stuff.

Holy carp, how I love aftershaking here! Just makes me wish I could hang out with the Budweiser guys at that field of them, preferably if there aren't any bees nearby, nor with someone wearing a tinfoil hat, nor 300's hunchback, and then send my camera to space with a weather balloon (of course, tying it with fishing string to, say, some pissed-off Canadian or a chupacabra) while playing some Minesweeper and trying to make a realistic castle with MS Paint, or maybe trying to figure out what a Magic Eye picture is hiding.

Although, I guess it'd be more productive if I went to the graveyard with some candles, a spell book and some snacks to lure a demon, or if I bought a ton of little laser pointers (plus a Rolex) to blow up the moon and coerce the UN. Maybe it'd be better to buy one of those automatic soda fridge packs.

When I got my camera back, I think I'd shoot at dusk (so I can use day-to-night) some guy trying to spell graffiti, I could appreciate the long time Andrew spent developing the flip-book motion, I could remove some blemish from a footage with a girl in it so that she goes on a date with me, or maybe I could get an Indiana Jones poster signed by George Lucas and Harrison Ford, while looking at Sam Loya's face when he has a machine gun or a jedi robe. Trying to understand how gravity and elasticity work in AE wouldn't hurt either....

Hey, did that supermarket cart just hit MY CAR? :P
September 17th, 2007 @ 5:11 pm
Hey Andrew i appreciate all your work your new site its amazing well congrats 4 your daughter bye

September 17th, 2007 @ 5:44 pm
I finally went through all the new stuff and I just want to say thank you. The Basic Training is awesome, especially the Titles lessons, which has some really cool advanced stuff. And I already love the Animation Presets (although I didn't used them yet) and the fact that they are free. I hope you bring out some new products soon, because after all that free stuff I feel like I need something to buy.
Thanks again and keep up the great work!
September 17th, 2007 @ 5:50 pm
Andrew, i read that Apple was going to refund peoples money because of the price drop on the iPhone. You may want to look into that.

September 17th, 2007 @ 6:41 pm
Always improving your quality Andrew! Congratulations to you and your team! Great work! I apreciated a lot the free basics trainment...if i had had this opportunity before, i wouldn't have broken some laws downloading [suspicious] material! Oops, that was a secret...But it's all very good and very well thought and done. You're the After Effects team in the internet! There's nothing similar to your website! I wish all the best!
Greetings from Brazil!
September 17th, 2007 @ 7:00 pm
Hey! This is great! Congrats! ......tears in my eyes....

September 17th, 2007 @ 7:15 pm
Ando, awesome job on the new site! You always seem to surprise me; every time I think something couldn’t be better…you prove me wrong and blow me away.

September 17th, 2007 @ 7:45 pm
Dude, thanks so much for the 'set extensions' tutorial!! I'd tried to matchmove a plate shot on blue screen dozens of times, but few markers were visible and the actors obscured them during the shot! Boujou didn't work at all, but by parenting nulls containing tracking data to each other, the shot is looking sweet.

Cheers, from NZ FX guy!
September 17th, 2007 @ 8:36 pm
Oh my god.... I love this site, I've been on it all day
instead of doing my homework...

I'm going to fail the test tomorrow

Andrew here is the link to the iPhone refund letter from Steve Jobs. Looks like there are some limits on it. But, hey if you get $100 Apple Store credit, you could buy a protective cover for the iPhone so it doesn't get smashed by a runaway shopping cart.

There is any way to download and store your videos on my computer? The bandwidth here isn't great, and open the videos every time we need to remember something isn't cool. :p

To all you up & coming VFX artists, all praise goes to Mr. Andrew Kramer. This by far has got to be the best website on the net. Thanks to Andrew & his team, he has placed a website on the web that is not only educational, it's a blast to visit & learn from what I feel is the best in the business. Andrew, thanks for all you've done for us & your generosity should go into the hall of fame. AE Titles for BT part 1 has a little blurp in the audio while talking about the Threshold for the Glow effect added to the particle... @ ~16:48

The cool thing is, last night I had a total of 6 tabs open with 6 different tutorials... AMAZING!
September 18th, 2007 @ 10:27 am
Cult leader you have bring the rains when there is drought, you summon content where there is non.....When i am hungry at werk you bring me AE kungpow with a side of funny sauce........
All praise cult leader!!!! Let the Chicken live. Cheers from Venice CA....
September 18th, 2007 @ 10:41 am
Yeah, the video streaming is much slower. Otherwise great job.
September 18th, 2007 @ 10:45 am
It's not exactly slower but there is just a lot more content flowing through the pipes...
In fact I estimate about 3 hours of new Video content instead on 1 tutorial like usual.

It should improve after the show of the launch.
September 18th, 2007 @ 12:05 pm
I just want to say thanks. Thanks for the Tutorials, this site and all the other fantastic stuff you brought to us. Good luck for you and your recently grown Family!

September 19th, 2007 @ 2:49 pm
Amazing Update Andrew great stuff as always, thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge!…hey about tutorial sugestions i support the idea from marcelo from brazil of making a tutorial about the bullet time effect of matrix, i know its really hard to shoot something like that cos i saw how they did it on matrix with lots of cameras recording at the same time… but i saw this tutorial on the internet

where the effects of bullet time is faked using just adobe premiere a panorama picture of the background and a free plugin to morph within adobe premiere called
WinMorph . the result is pretty cool… i ´m sure there´s must be some way of faking that effect in AE.

Here is the result movie from the tutorial
September 19th, 2007 @ 3:03 pm

I need some help..ok, imagine i have a picture on the upper half of screen, and i need on the lower half text to move like in movie endings (appear from below and dissapear JUST BEFORE picture).. ive made text moving just up but i cant make it dissapear before picture and if i make mask, it moves with text above...any ideas?
September 22nd, 2007 @ 9:55 am
Just pre-compose the text and mask the pre-composed comp layer... though should work, there's prob an better way but this should get the job done
Dustin James
September 22nd, 2007 @ 10:23 am
Is there a black background behind the text and picture?

If so.. maybe you could just add a linear wipe and track matte it to the text...

(placing the linear wipe below the Text layer; I think white is transparent and black is opaque)
Dustin James
September 22nd, 2007 @ 10:26 am

for assistance watch Tutorial number 17. 3D Reflections... Andrew demonstrates my theory while working with the reflection text.

Forget that I asked if it were a black background, that doesn't even matter.

Andrew Kramer-

Just wanted to let you know I have searched far and wide and your video tutorials are best. Other tutorials advance from feature to feature without a coherent project. Your video tutorials, on the other hand, whet creative appetites while showing us practical, actual effects.

Too bad you have no sense of humor!

Thanks again!

I renamed all my after effects shortcuts to 'Andrew Kramer'.

Im going to cruise videocopilot,
i need to hear kramer's voice a lot,
his soothing voice relaxes me,
I think his crafty jokes are the key,
He makes learning fun,
Now i can do a muzzle flash for a gun,
All the girls want to know me,
I think her names Dorothy,
I can show her my light streaks,
Aswell as a few nosey peeks,
At my 3d room with Kramer,
Im never better.
September 23rd, 2007 @ 8:43 am
Someone know who to make bullet effect like in matrix ? the bullet trail and time slow in after effects ? plz help me who knows ..thx
