Some of the new

Here is a small sample of the new site. With the new server we can expect to handle the mid-day rush and be able to update the tutorials and blog much easier.

Additionally, the site is being optimized for speed. The tutorial section has some new functionality that I will get into when we launch. I will give you one hint, the tutorial section will have a search function that will not only allow you to search what is in the description but also search for little tips that are deep within.

Most of the changes aren’t visual, but rather behind the scenes.

You continue to impress and amaze most of us (I'm politely looking your way Dr. Evil) with your knowledge and skill, but most importantly your willingness to improve, increase and develop the way you serve your community. Hats off to you. And thank your wife from all of us for sharing your time. Having just become a father myself, I'll understand completely if we don't hear from you for a few weeks. :)

Andrew, I congratulate on the new server and the new web side.

From my personal experience I can tell that since I launched my own web site (www.strongmocha.com) I spend less time on vfx or photos and more time on style sheets, speed optimizations and new features ;-)

Hey Andrew,

Thank You!!!

Quick question for Andrew, and everyone else too. I have found myself running out of ideas for project themes. How does one come up with original ideas without doing something thats been done before?

I am just curiouse as to what some of you folks might do to remain original.

s.gilbert what you do is you go back to a places in your childhood ,you do that while closing your eyes and with your hands you squeez the side of your eyes just enough to start seeing colors and things in 3d space ,now only you can see that so when you see what you looking for keep it in your head and go and try to work on it .and thats my fella will be your idea and yours only good luck.

i hope a forum, "new tutorial / topic notification" is part of the new site. could really enhance this site imo.
yet i am sure the mods you got in store for the site are needed.

why? people could start to help more / build community, and post their own tutorials/tips and tricks.

S Gilbert:
____________________
a good way(for me that is) to start projects is to put yourself in the viewpoint of the client, make small lists of keywords, connect those keywords, basically build a guide for yourself where you wanna go, and what the possible side roads are, also make sure you write down possible roadblocks so you can evade this or simply try to sell it to the client.
basically i nearly always write little scenarios whether is a site, record sleeve or even a flyer. so i guess it's the same with motion work, only you need a time line :] after this i start to layout/design/build, not earlier, i need a guide that points me towards what i am aiming for.

originality is bliss and can be in the smallest things, everything has been done, so imo it's practically impossible to come up with 100% new stuff, combine, alter, modify stuff, basically it's all about creativity.

sounds very common and/or random but i know from experience not too much people do it, at least thats how we trigger jobs at foldesign.com

just some thoughts, hope it helps out some of you.

Nice work Mr.K.

Small request/suggestion??? Is it possible to add a download link to the tutes? that would save you/users bandwidth by not having to stream them over and over again?

Also, for some strange reason I can no longer connect to tutes from say about #22 - 40 [videcopilot9 server maybe?] all machines on my network wont load them at all - that being said, my mates studio still can?

Forum? - my vote is a big fat NO! those who own/run one will be sure to understand my vote of no!

Thanks again big fella. tops work! Good vibes go out to you and your Missus in this time of Babyness ;)

JUMPY TEXT MISSING PLUGIN "AMOUNT"

Hey Kramer, hope all is well with the wife and new baby real soon. I was trying to duplicate your tutorial labeled JUMPY TEXT, specifically adding this effect to a still image towards the end of your tut. I noticed that you have a fx labeled "AMOUNT" that is not in my plug in folder. I currently have 7.0 pro installed. Is this a special plug? If so where can i get it? I DL your project file and it does work. I could use your project file but would rather do this in my own project having the plug in.

Any idea where i can finds the plug in AMOUNT? I must have missed something in the install disk... ?

You know what would be really kool is if and when we do get a Forum, that one of the sections will be a Viewer Video Tutorials, where we as the viewer can submit Video Tutes based on request, and each week, AK picks the top 3 to premiere based on Quality of Audio/Video presentation and Relevance of VFX/GFX. Kind of an Iron Chef contest amoung ourselves. Just a suggestion. Throw out some ideas to give AK to work with people.

guten tag

creativecow.net is pretty professional and established allready, they got a Forum where many professionals are participating. Why creating another Forum here ? My opinion is, that there is no need - it just makes even more work and cost time, and time is money. It would be better invested in releasing new VFX DVDs or/and AE Tutorials. Thats what i think.

so check it out :

Forums would be a great idea, though as a separate website. Seems like lots of people here want to chat/share ideas. The discussion is great, and can only benefit VCP & those learning. You know you need a forum when you have comment moderation on a Blog. That just seems strange.
August 17th, 2007 @ 8:54 am

Aghem...not to be ya know, a spammer...but i made some forums for this purpose. You can submit and request tutorials for photoshop, flash and after effects, submit your work. Talk about the programs and how people did certain things, as well as even create and participate in contests for those programs. Only two people joined, and no one's posted yet, I'd be eternally greatful if you guys could help me get it going.

I love the fact that everyone is so protective and fantasize over
what Andrew Kramer would/should think and do, in a very similar manor of how many modern religions were dreamed up. "What would Jesus, Andrew Kramer or John Lennon do" whats right? whats wrong? forum or no forum? I wonder if Jesus desciples in Jerusalem 2000 some years ago were screaming for tutorials and forums ...I mean "gospels" and "stone tablets" in the same annoying way this blog has become.

forums, shmorums! do you not have enough going on in your stinkin' life that you need a forum?? lord knows i have enough on my plate with work and my personal life that i don't need to have a virtual life.

then again, i am arguing with someone on the internet....DOH!!!

this is why there should be no forum!! get a LIFE!!!

Has everyone forgotten that Andrew is also connected to Creavtive Cow. They have quite the extensive forum over there. And I'm pretty sure i've seen Andrew on there. Looking forward to the upgrades.

That's the crux of the matter. Andew is part of the Creative Cow team and I've seen him post in various AE related forums there. I'm sure they would consider it "competition" if he created his own forums and they'd stop posting his tutorials. Even so, there is simply no reason for him to create his own when he has and does participate in the CC forums.

Andrew, I'm starting to get the shakes from missing your next tutorial... :) I know you're probably busy pacing, but let me tell you from experience (two daughters and three granddaughters) that work helps pass the time. HEHE! Seriously, you and your family are in my prayers for a safe delivery and a healthy child.

I don't know if this is too complex, but I'd love to see a tutorial for an earthquake. Camera shake... Perhaps an outdoor scene where a fissure opens up splitting the scene in two and the talent jumps over it.

Your site and Creative Cow are my everyday, check up. I have loved the tutorials for the past year. And everything here has helped me grow with in the business even more. I have been editing professionally for about 3-4 years, AND I thank you, for being one of my biggest inspirations. Keep up the good work and awesome site...and from what I have read ... Enjoy Father hood.

The main reason I don't go over to creative cow forums (yes, i do listen to the podcasts) is the incredible ancient layout they've been using for such a long time. So some nice 'standard' layout like vbullit or phpBB would be nice, but hey, can't complain! These free sources rock over and over:)
August 19th, 2007 @ 4:27 am

im from spain and the english sometimes its a little problem to follow the tutorials, but "its says more an image than a thowsand of words".

Could Andrew or somebody recommend some good 3ds Max Tutorials?
I have done most of the 3dbuzz Tutorials and I would like to learn aspects of 3ds Max that are relevant to film / effects

Thanks :)

Our own Zombie movie based on the Resident Evil series is currently in the preproduction and with every tutorial and product from Andrew it becomes more ambitious:). It started out preety much as hilarious spoof and is currently aimed at as a 110 minutes feature film. And Andrew, if you read this, I would love to see an Action Film sound effects DVD full of weapon sounds, explosions, blood splatter, monster screams, hehe maybe even zombie moans.

THX Andrew for everything so far.

Well it's good to know we have something to look forward to in the coming weeks. I'm sure that being patient and not nagging Andrew will pay off well. I do have high expectations, and Andrew you have never let me down in the past, so I have no douts about the future. Well I'm off to bed after a 14 hour shoot today. Ha, I can't sleep well unless I check out vc dot net.

Andrew,

Good luck with the baby, man! My wife just had our baby girl 2 months ago, and we couldn't be happier. I tried to show her some of your AE tutorials, but I think you go too fast for her. She likes the colors though.

Best of luck, and thanks for doing what you do.
